Just finished my first season and had a great time. I found it very easy to connect with other players!

My daughter was signed up for afternoon tennis camp the week of July 21. On the 18th, I was informed it was canceled due to too few people signed up and I'd be issued a refund. I have called 4 times to inquire about my refund. Of course, I get VM every time. No one has returned my call and I have not received my refund. I'm hesitant to ever do business with them again if they cannot follow thru on something as simple as issuing a refund when they fail to deliver a service. I'm hoping this review will get their attention and someone finally returns my call!

There are I think four outdoor courts and two indoor ones under a temperature controlled tent/dome thingy. There's a little shop there too that sells tennis stuff. My daughter did two of the kids tennis camps. One during spring break and one in the summer. She loved them. They host tournaments and offer lessons of all sort--including cheap group lessons on weeknights with no commitment. I've always wanted to check those out but haven't had a chance yet. The only thing about Owl Creek is it's kind of out in the boonies. OK, maybe not the boonies, but it sure feels like a hike.

Small clubhouse with refreshments, bathrooms with showers, indoor seating and generous size patio with tables, seating, and fire pits. Tuesdays are for kids only. The rest of the week is open to all ages. Saturdays offer two-hour sessions for beginners and/or those who have not played in a while and would like some refreshers. Saturdays also offer Feeding Frenzy. Very reasonable membership price - and if you're not a member, affordable session prices of $20 per hour. Lessons are available as well. New addition of Cornhole more recently which have been set up for true tournament (or leisure) play. They did a great job with the setup of this new space. If you want to play tennis, learn tennis, or improve your tennis...regardless of your level, I highly recommend checking out Cape Henry. The club is very easy to locate, but it is way off the beaten path of Virginia Beach Blvd. Turn onto Little Neck Rd. and travel approximately five miles to the club on the right. There is great signage which will guide you in to their lot. Plenty of parking is available for members. However, on swim meet days, or events it is strained. Overflow has been at the church across the street. Behind the main house is a huge open air grass space for holding out events that could be tented. The pool complex is very nice. As you walk in you will see a guard shack on the left the main building on the right. The clubhouse has a kitchen, a large open air meeting space with fireplace and restrooms. It is nothing fancy whatsoever, but it's well maintained. Smaller type of indoor events could be held here. There is a nice large splash pool for kids in the middle that offers different depths and a mushroom sprinkler. Also included is a small tube curly slide that is a huge hit with the kids. The main pool is rectangular with no bump outs. There are two diving boards, a one meter and a meter and a half spring board. The pool is six lanes 25 meter guttered pool and it's a real beauty. The concrete deck space is massive allowing for very large swim meets to be comfortably held. Little Neck swims in the Dolphin Division of the Virginia Beach Swim Team and goes by the name "Blue Dolphins" They are consistently the largest swim team in the VBSL with over 225 swimmers. You must be a member of the club in order to swim on the team. LN is very good team that wins titles. The officiating crew led by Meet Referee Bill Gill does a great job preparing the pool for dual meets. This is my forth year assisting the team and I have found their volunteers to be accommodating to visitors. The club has always run a first class swim meet and most years host the final championship meet "All-Stars" of the season. Although I cannot vouch for the tennis portion of this club I can tell you the aquatics portion is really top notch and many of the members I know personally friendly. If interested in a tennis/pool club this is one of the nicer one you will find in Virginia Beach.

Broad Bay is mainly known for it's beautiful golf course, but the pool with recent enhancements is just what they needed. BB does offer tennis too. Broad Bay Country Club is located off of Great Neck Rd. across from Cox H.S. It can get confusing finding the pool from the main entrance which is Stonehaven. Turn onto Lords Landing from Great Neck (may need to pull a u-turn if approaching from the North) and make a right at the wooden BB sign and drive up the hill. Parking is just past the pool and pretty plentiful even on swim meet days. The pool is six lanes 25 meters and is rectangular with no bump outs for diving etc . Deck space is limited. A wooden arbor area on the road side allows for limited seating and has a baby pool. Depth at the shallow end is approximately 3.5 ft and deep end 7 ft. A new large area opposite the road had a new slab put in to level a previous space off. It now boast a large canopy over the entire space and is used for events as well as seating for swim meets. It nicely done with hanging chandeliers and fire pit.. Also a new wooden structure was recently built outside the pool to post results and put up fliers of all sorts for the club. The pool sets on beautiful real estate right off the golf course. I have always found the grounds surrounding the pool to be well maintained. If you are a member of the club this is really a great space for a family to enjoy. I am not a member of this club, but from my four years of helping around this pool I would recommend checking them out for membership.

This place is just a gym with too many rules. Here's what I've been asked to stop doing or even leave for: Swimming too slowly in the pool lanes Not playing tennis in the tennis court (my child and I were the only ones there, and we were playing) Bringing a child younger than 9 or 14 onto the track Playing basketball with a basketball brought from home. All the others are ALWAYS taken. They confiscated my ball. Going the wrong way in the pool. The lifeguard didn't realize that going against the current is a form of exercise. Walking the track instead of running Stopping next to the track Sitting on the exercise equipment. It had a chair that I chose to sit on for two minutes. No one was around. Today, two fellow members kicked me out because I had flip-flops on. They were right about it being against the rules, but it just reminded me of the pervasive culture of entitlement and snobbery that exists at this location. For context, I have memory issues, which is why I had flip-flops on at the gym.

More over if you reside in Norfolk this should be a recreation area that you frequent. The park is in one word expansive and stretches wide and long. I think you will love hearing more about this Norfolk gem. Although not a new park by any stretch, as a matter of fact it's a petty old park. Located off of Tidewater Dr. a quarter of a mile in a residential area. However, it is well maintained with newer equipment and some extras in the rear that I will elaborate on. I will work myself from front to back of property for this review. Parking is huge! I have never seen it even a quarter full even with events. It is well maintained, but usually has some amount of debris around. The park office is also located up front too. You will find older clean restrooms that are used by not only park goers, but during the week it acts like a rest stop. There are two ball fields to the right. Two all purpose fields to the left used for football and soccer. Both are used for Norfolk Recreation League. Since I am not a resident of Norfolk I am unsure how the sign up process works, however there is info at the park office. All the way to the left is a full court basketball court, however the surface is in horrid condition.. Directly to the rear is the huge tennis center with nine courts, you read correctly NINE and it's lit. There is also league play for adults. The court is kept in great condition. In the center are the playgrounds which have anything but regular equipment. Slides, swings and unique items you will NOT find in any other park. One of my daughters favorite is one that you get on and slide back and forth. Another one twirls you around, so hold on tight. There are also three nice shelters with bbq grills. All of this is in close proximity of each other. Now let's move to the rear of the property close to the water. The Lakewood Dance and Music Studio offers classes, clinics etc. through the Norfolk Parks and Recreation system. If you are not a Norfolk resident there is an up charge. My daughter who is a dancer at a VB studio attends clinics. The Tidewater Rowing Center is at the very rear of the grounds. It's main build is very large and two stories. This is also home to ODU Rowing. Two good size out buildings house rigging and row equipment for the club and ODU. Two drawbacks to this park are debris, it seems like no matter how hard the staff clean up its around. On a visit tonight someone had pushed over a can apparently on purpose. Another issue is an element of homeless/transients. They have never bothered me, but I don't like it. Lakewood has a lot to offer and is a terrific facility in the Norfolk park system. Come see for yourself.
