We started our Sicilian journey in Palermo and one of the items I was seeking was an antique map of Sicily that showed some important towns where my relatives lived such as Pachino, Siracusa and Monterosso Almo. My daughter and son-in-law found Fecarotta on a walk when we weren't with them and they reported to me that this was the store that would have what I was looking for. When we visited the store we were not disappointed as they had many antique maps and the problem was which was the best one for us. The store staff, mostly family I believe, was very patient and a bit flexible on the price to make it affordable. I was shown a large reference book by an author who is considered an expert on the subject of antique maps and I was told that my map had been purchased from his collection. We were in a hurry that day and left without asking for a copy of the relevant pages of that book so we could keep the background material with the map for future reference. When I returned home I sent a request for copies of the relevant pages and received a prompt and positive response from Francesco Fecarotta. This is very good customer service. This is an upscale store in a more up-market section of Palermo and people looking for high-end antiques would do well to make sure they visit this store which also has custom made jewelry by family members.

Lots of cruise ships stop at Palermo's port, so it makes sense to have a high-end luxury leather store here. The store isn't huge, but it'll likely have all the LV swag you could need for the day. If they don't have, they can order it for you. Also, if you're not from Italy (you have a non-Italian passport), then you shop tax-free! The staff is very friendly. The air is clean and the sun shines. While here we ended up going to Le Ceramichie Di Bisanzio. This place was amazing. Walking into the store is bright and vibrant with colors of yellows, oranges, and hints of blue. There is pottery all over the store masterfully positioned throughout. The store smells like fresh lemons in the spring and the various aromas of verbena and citrus draw you in toward their soaps. The shop is well stocked with candy, soaps, pottery as well as wines and limoncello made in the region. We were greeted by the shop owner Saverio who was amazing. He was very charismatic and helpful and kept providing us with the limoncello gummies that were just as addictive as crack. We had amazing and fun conversations with Saverio and he made us feel more than just welcomed but as if we were family. In the US stores try to fake this to lure you in and make the sake but Saverio was very genuine and he really didn't seem to care if we purchased anything. A large group of people, friends and relatives, came together to create a meeting place for…read moretheatre, music and dance in Palermo. Today they have a wonderful space in an old industry building close to the center of the city. A serie of concerts and arrangements are now running weekly. I had the great pleasure to be there two nights in a row. The first was dedicated to theatre and dance and the following night there were bands and solo artists performing. Those who come in here to take the stage are professionals, so there is great value for money. But overall you meet interesting and warmhearted Palermo-friends to talk to and to share your life's experiences with. Now, the perspective with Spazio Franco (Free Room, my translation) is not only limited to Palermo. It reaches out to the whole of Sicily and the rest of the country. It is obvious that a place like this is needed. Both evenings were fully booked. More than three times the seats available. But no problem. We walked in and out through the night. Everybody had their chance to enjoy what was going on. The morning sun met me as I walked home to the awakening of the city.
