This place is just meh. Way too overhyped. It's just normal breakfast food and honestly I'd go to Bob Evans over this. Besides the Dirty Sanchez I've liked nothing else from their menu. I came here with high hopes also because everybody at OSU raves about it. And why? There are breakfast places that actually live up to the hype like Fox in the Snow and Kats but this is just alright and kind of boring and kind of bland. You could cook many of these dishes at home tbh. I'm pretty sure the most interesting thing about this place is it's name. Oh, and expect to wait forever for food that is definitely not worth the wait. Not to be totally savage though - this place has decent drinks and good bartenders. This place has everything you could want out of a breakfast place! It's the perfect brunch spot minus the likely 30 minute wait time for a table. The wait is well worth it. I'd recommend the Bloody Mary to start. Then I got the hoe Benny, which was delicious! The freshness of the avocado in the hoe benny was just what I needed to start my day. I recently visited Columbus to attend a conference at OSU. I'm not trying to be dramatic but this is the closest I've felt to food heaven while eating at a restaurant; it's like ecstasy. This is a place that speaks to the power of quality ingredients. It's not strictly speaking "healthy", but the quality of the ingredients is so high that you feel so good after. I am not going to lie, this place impressed me for being a small college town joint. Their breakfast items are so diverse, so cheap, so good. I got the breakfast quesadilla and it was seriously everything. The place literally did cure my hangover. The breakfast quesadilla comes with pork actually inside with other delicious fillings and then two eggs on top of it. FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC. Then, my boyfriend got the sausage skillet which was equally bangin'. It was so much food that we hand enough leftovers for lunch. (Also counting the leftover pancake that we got to split that didn't even get eaten). The decor in this place is enough to keep you entertained while you're waiting for your food. It's so cool, vintage, retro, authentic (I think), decor. I'm so into it. You don't feel like you're in 2017, but back to the old days of OSU. Last, our server was seriously so enthusiastic like, home girl had enough energy for the both of us on this crisp Sunday morning. Bless it. Hang Over Easy is a nice place to hang out for a classic diner experience. I'd only known this place from it's old days, and we finally sauntered down to check it out. The fairly limited hours (7am-3pm) and parking concerns kept us away longer than they should have. It's kind of the real deal here. Clean, brightly-lit, L-shaped counter space and a bit of room to move - you could bring a larger group here, if you timed it just right. There are TVs for game-watching, they have beer options (at least), and we had friendly and timely service without feeling rushed (we were in a little bit before their closing time). I ordered a turkey Reuben, no cheese (I know, I know), and the spouse had their burger. Both were good representations of each, and they have curly fries, which is nice. Would be happy to come back for breakfast here - it's CHEAP!! Like, college-appropriate, old-school cheap. That should be the tag line: good food, cheap! Full disclosure: My dining partner and I were bordering on hangry when we arrived at Hang Over Easy. It's not their fault. We waited too long for breakfast after a particularly busy event evening and we were way overdue for a meal that wasn't a protein bar. Hang Over Easy sat us quickly and gave us ample time to peruse their menu. Service was on point, friendly, and helpful and overall I was really hoping the food would match the fab waitstaff. Alas, many of the items I sampled were just ok. Nothing was bad, but absolutely nothing stood out. That is, except the really crass menu names. Listen, I often have mouth of a truck driver but I can't imagine even my 22 year old self wanting to order "Sloppy Seconds." It's just unnecessary. Back to the food, though. I ordered the green eggs and ham, sampled some bacon, and a bit of fresh fruit. The green eggs and ham sounded like it would be packed with flavor, but the egg sandwich was bland despite the pesto being mixed in. The bacon jam was decent and their ham is pretty on point (thick cut and juicy), but the main items (the eggs) and the potatoes needed a serious helping of black pepper and any flavorful condiment I could locate on the table. I have to give a hearty high five for serving fresh fruit that is not "filler fruit." Hang Over Easy serves a delightful fruit bowl with massive blackberries, melon, pineapple, and strawberries. Color me impressed. The low point of the meal, though, was their bacon. The bacon looked like it would be crispy and hearty, but it was flat, chewy and barely edible. I don't know what happened to the sad bacon, but this bacon was all sorts of wrong. So, a solid 3 stars from me. Hang Over Easy has some really good qualities, and some really meh qualities. They sated my hangriness but it wasn't the brightest of breakfasts. read more
