I initially booked for April 9th, but the massage therapist, Nicole, called me with less than an hour before the appointment and said she has to cancel due to a pet emergency. So then I re-booked for April 16th. I had read on the website that there were beautiful views of the waterfront from the treatment rooms but the massage table was turned away from the window and the blinds were closed. I didn't want to impose so I didn't say anything. At the end of the treatment Nicole tried to put my claim ID and policy number through, but then told me that there was a message stating "under review" and that it didn't go through properly. I had given the correct policy and claim numbers, but I was told by the staff that there is often a problem with this particular insurer going through and sometimes it just doesn't work. When I had called ahead of the appointment I was informed that they do direct billing with this insurer and that my massage therapist, Nicole, has used direct billing with them before without any problems. I called back to get an email with the receipt attached so that I could now send the bill manually to the insurer to get reimbursed. I then called the insurer and they said that the wrong claim and ID numbers were sent in so they couldn't process it. I gave them the correct numbers, but still have to send the claim in manually. Then I noticed an email had been sent to me stating "appointment cancelled" for my upcoming Tuesday appointment. I left a voice message, but the owner was out, I suppose, so I didn't hear back from him until this morning. I was wondering if Nicole had another emergency so had to cancel again. When the owner, Adam, called this morning he announced himself in a loud voice so I had to hold the phone away from my ear to hear him properly. He said I was discharged from their service as I had apparently made the receptionist uncomfortable when I called last week. I was shocked to hear this. The receptionist, Abby, had never said anything to me about feeling uncomfortable during the phone call. Nobody attempted to call or email me about this, just the one email stating that the service was cancelled. Adam said he has a duty of care to his staff. Then I mentioned that the phone call didn't even seem unusual to me, Abby eventually apologized for the mix up and I thanked her for her concern before the end of the call. I'm wondering what the duty of care for their clients is. So now I called and made an appointment with another massage clinic. I have never had a restriction in service before, and was surprised that a massage clinic would do this over what seemed like a normal phone call. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a service provider (considering that this is also the first time I have also been restricted from a service provider). There are a lot of massage clinics in the Comox Valley and I would recommend staying far way from this one.
