I am another one. A complete and total Hannu devotee. Somehow I stumbled upon this unique experience back around 1986, which would be about 28 years ago. At that time I didn't think I could afford a haircut like the one offerred by Hannu, but I soon realized that I really could not afford NOT to get my hair cut by Hannu. So today I consider Hannu as part of my team for success . He does his thing with my hair, so I can do my thing with my business and other relationships. After going to Hannu for awhile, you will see it is about a lot more than about the hair. When my oldest son got married, Hannu openned early so my son and I could get a special, same day haircuts that would stand up to the onslaught of wedding photos taken that day and we were both very pleased. The wedding photos today bear witness to his exceptional talent and skill. He had recommended the approprite spacing for the haircuts prior the the final wedding day cut! I recommend letting Hannu take the lead in helping you think about what would be best for your hair style, he has a great talent for this. After we moved about 50 minutes away from his shop, some would think that would be the end of getting hair cuts from Hannu, but not me, I consider it well worth the trip and I am not surprised at all that Hanu has regulars who drive all the up from New Jersey. As a professional who is involved in international/domestic meetings with high tier clients, my appearance is very important to me during my meetings with clients and that is why I trust Hannu with my hair. My visits to him are frequent, every 10 days. That is how much I trust him. Due to my frequent travel and previous relocations, I have tried hair stylists from highly rated salons all over the US and across the globe and I have never been able to find a stylist that matches his quality of haircut. I was very glad to move back to Connecticut several years ago and return to Hannu. No one has been able to match Hannu's quality and attention to detail, but more importantly his skill as a hairdresser. His price is very modest, especially when his quality/service easily rivals and surpasses any famous salon from NY or LA. I've been a customer for almost 20 years, and I have to say that after living in multiple states, I find myself always coming back to Hannu's! I got my first haircut there 20 years ago, and my father and grandfather always have gone to Hannu's as well. While other shops just cut your hair, Hannu is a true artist and fantastic barber. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair - he is simply the best for a wonderful, long-lasting haircut that will leave you and others speechless. He truly knows hair, but he also knows people as well - a delight to talk to, and he will always have my business when I'm in the area. Within miles from UConn, Eastern, and not too far of a drive from other parts of the state, it is definitely worth going to Hannu's. I have been a Hannu devotee for the past 26 years! It started when I moved to the area and asked my new boss for a recommendation for a barber. He put me on to Hannu and I have been a customer ever since, even though I moved to New Jersey 21 years ago! I come back every 6 weeks to 2 months to get my haircut. My wife thinks I'm nuts, and maybe I am--but a haircut is a very personal item and, I have found nobody that does it better than Hannu. Over the course of these many years I have hooked my brother-in-law on Hannu and have turned our visits into either Hannu and Brew (going to the Brew Pub in Willimantic following an afternoon haircut) or Breakfast and Hannu, with breakfast at the Thread City Diner followed by a haircut. My parents took me to Hannu for my very first haircut 27 years ago and I have been going to him ever since! Hannu gives the best haircuts by far. He may be a little higher in price and take longer than most barbers, but it is definitely worth it. My girlfriend thinks I'm crazy since I have short hair, but you can really see a difference between a "Hannu" cut and a cut from any other place. When I visited him yesterday, he told me he has been cutting hair for 56 years now. A haircut from him is clearly "nothing but the best, from the best, for the best" as Hannu tells me at every visit. The other's reviews are true. Despite my living in the greater New York City area, I intentionally travel 180 miles round-trip so that Hannu can my hair. He's that good! He'll take a bit more time with you than most barbers do and he isn't inexpensive (yet he's not expensive: you'll pay less than women do at Willimantic/Storrs area hair salons), but you'll get the type of haircut a Hollywood studio hair styles would give a movie star. I have never had such a satisfying haircut experience in my life, and for reference I've had quality haircuts in NYC and Sweden. I realize I am much younger than Hannu's regular clientele but I feel that is a shame and more of my generation needs to know what it is to have a great haircut. Hannu takes his time with you and won't rush even if there are people waiting. While the haircuts are definitely a little pricey, you certainly get what you paid for. He treats you as an individual and sculpts your hair into what is perfect for you and what is going to look the best for you. In all my travels, I have never had a better haircut. However, that isn't the only reason I go to see Hannu (although that would be reason enough). He's a great guy who takes the time to give each individual who visits, a cut that is unique to their personality. Each cut is CUSTOMIZED TO EACH PERSON. There is no cookie cutter mentality here. I've been a customer for close to 40 years. Hannu's is a one-man shop; the customer gets his full attention. The shop itself is comfortable, with a cozy, wood and glass interior. Besides the classy haircuts, Hannu is an accomplished professional musician with a musical adult son. Talk about their concert, recording, and travel experiences have enlivened many haircut sessions. His pricing is at the upper end for the area but is worth it. He loves his work and operates like an artist. I have lived in five states and had about twenty barbers. No other barber comes close to providing a haircut of Hannu's outstanding quality. It is accurate to consider Hannu a hair designer rather than a barber. I live in Rhode Island and drive about fifty miles each way to have Hannu deal with my hair.
