The property used to be a convent and has been converted into a modern hotel in the heart of the Alfama neighborhood in Lisbon. I arrived early from my cruise around 7am, and even though my room wasn't ready yet, the front desk happily stored my luggage so I could go out and explore. When the room was ready, I received a text and was pleasantly surprised to find that my bag had already been placed inside--amazing service. The room itself was small but very modern, and honestly one of the cleanest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. Every corner was spotless--impeccable attention to detail. Breakfast was included and everything was fresh, including their freshly squeezed orange juice which was a great touch. The only small downside is that the hotel sits on a short hill, and Ubers can't access that road directly, so just be aware you'll need to walk a bit. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning. If I'm ever back in Lisbon, I would definitely stay here again! Great hotel and service!

Rooms are modern, clean, and extremely large by European standards. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel offers a buffet style morning breakfast that is perfectly acceptable. The hotel's primary drawback is the complete lack of bar / restaurant / social scene. A modest (to put it politely) bar is centrally located but offers little other than a quick drink opportunity on your way to something hopefully more interesting. The gym is also awkwardly divided into two tiny rooms, each little bigger than a utility closet. The bottom line: The large rooms, good location, and fair price make the Sofitel worthwhile, but the lack of social scene forces you to dine and drink elsewhere.

The breakfast was dull so we found ourselves at a place called Brick Cafe just a short walk away for almost all of our morning meals. It is certainly in a seedy neighborhood with a number of loiterers and/or homeless people but they do not gather in front of the hotel. Only 1-2 people seemed to bother us while walking so mostly these people kept to themselves. The hotel is between two metro stops so it's quite easy to get around town and the 28 trolley picks up a couple blocks away. I'm hesitant to give 4 stars as I wouldn't recommend this hotel to everyone I know. But if you keep your wits about yourself and all you need is a safe hotel to sleep in, this is your place.

Transport was included and so was breakfast, all for an affordable price. One thing to note is that this hotel is pretty much inside/within the Sao Jorge hotel. It is pretty high up on a hill on Alfama. Uber/Bolt will stop about 7 min away on the hill, taxis will take you to the door, and there is the 737 bus that runs around 8a - 8p that stops at Sao Jorge, and will require a bit of walking up the hill. The rooms themselves are extremely beautiful and spacious. I lucked out and got one of the king rooms on the 2nd floor over looking the courtyard. The rooms are well equipped with robes and slippers, water to drink, and some port as well. There's a cute little museum with artifacts in the cistern. Additionally, there are several non harmful peacocks roaming the grounds too. Breakfast is very good and it's a buffet with standard deli meats, cheese, yogurt, bread, cereal, coffee, etc. in the afternoon there's tea and pastries and at night there's sparkling wine. There's also an honesty bar, and 24/7 room service. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly, and will assist with helping you get a taxi. Overall I had a great time, and will be returning here when I come back to Lisbon!

Set within the outer wall of São Jorge Castle, Solar is perhaps the only hotel I've stayed at with its own museum. The hotel wraps around a courtyard featuring a tiled arch, reflecting pool, fountain and lounge chairs. Back in your room, enjoy beside cognac, robes and slippers. The breakfast buffet features many local treats, most notably, fresh pasteis de Belem. A fully-stocked honor bar in the lobby will sate any taste. Then enjoy the historic neighborhood, the castle, the fado bars, and many wonderful restaurants. Solar and the Alfama district are among my favorite destinations anywhere.

Had two rooms - twin bed room was large and comfortable, queen bed room was tiny and cramped and the shower was broken - not a great room. AC was not good. Staff was courteous and helpful, as was every citizen we met during our stay. Had an amazing time overall, great launching point for exploring Avenida de Liberdade.

We had an Aldi and several places to eat snacks right outside the door. Located between ysl and Gucci. Very short walk distance to Massimo dutti, mango and fly London. We had to get extra cute luggage from cavalinho store. Also visit the mundo de sardines to take home some giftable sardines. $6-$22 a pice but the store is a carnival. The night time chocolate was something I looked forward to. They did skip a night. One day the forgot the washcloths. Also to note the bathtubs in the nh hotels are too slippery and hard to get into the shower.

Front desk staff was professional even apologetic for not able to get me in the room right away and I was here early at 10:30 am trying to check in. I booked a standard room and got an upgrade to a suite and it was the first time I ever been to any of their properties!! I have been patronizing Starwoods for years and that never ever happen to me!! The room is just so spacious! Even has a pantry area!! Location is great as it is located right across from Metro Station and Aerobus stop. Numerous shops and cafes in the area. Walkable to the downtown tourist area and it was a comfortable walk going downhill. Thanks so much NH Liberdade for making my last night at Lisboa memorable.
