Ordered their signature "Happy Burrito" (carne asada) resulting in an opposite feeling. Popular spot for lunch on certain days. Spent approx. $14 for the burrito that was the most bland Mexican food I've ever had. Their hot sauce was not balanced either. Also, their posted menu on the wall inside the establishment (that you cannot enter) is probably out of date. Their price point is the same, i.e. just as high, as neighboring lunch joints. There's a place right at the intersection with more flavorful burritos for $2 more. Ordered the ground beef enchilada plate which comes with one enchilada, rice and beans. Total was $9.35. The good: Food was piping hot and freshly made. The mole sauce on the enchilada was delicious and the flavors came together really well on the plate. The not-so-good: The ground beef was OILY as heck. Been here 2-3 times and order the baby burrito with chicken add cheese everytime. It's a decent size to get me full for the afternoon. I recommend adding the spicy sauce when you order because the chicken is dry otherwise. There's no seating. You can order at the door or by phone. When you pick up they give you a number placard (what for? Usually there are like 3 people standing outside but anyway) and you wait for your number to be called. When you pay with card, they walk to the back to process it and come back. No signature needed. The order comes in a white plastic bag. Parking during lunch can be challenging but I noticed people make it work. I feel like service is hit or miss. If the food is good, Idc if you're more or less neutral toward customers. But I take it personally when I catch you rolling your eyes, shaking your head, or simply being cold when I am being genuinely respectful. I always get salsa on the side( its spicy).I grew up on this place. One of the few places I can get a good breakfast burrito. Eggs are fluffy and not scrabled to hard.Always filling. I have never had a bad experience.over the 30+ years coming here. The ladies are nice. I do miss the black gentleman that used to take the orders, he was alittle old when I was younger. Happy Burrito - pretty much describes me in two words, hohoho. Although, I'm a little upset as I used to live 3 blocks from this place and never knew about it! I guess that's a sign of a true hole in the wall. So this might sound strange, but I feel like a test of a good Mexican restaurant is the rice & beans. And Happy Burrito's rice & beans are spot on! But there are many other things to love, including all-meat burritos; good char flavor on the carne asada; spicy brown salsa (albeit a tad salty); and a variety of non-standard quick service menu items including chimichangas, flautas, and enchiladas. While the burritos will be my go-to, I'm sure I'll try everything on the menu in due time. And why I'm so certain of this is that nearly everything on the menu is $8 or less, including the dinner plates. For years I've been coming to HB, I even have a previous review stating I love this place -- until today. I ordered a WET happy burrito - Carnitas w/black beans from an older gentleman taking orders. He then calls out what I ordered, but just not a WET burrito. I ask the gentleman if that was my order because I ordered a WET burrito. There was only one other customer, but I didn't want to assume. The gentleman then says oh you wanted wet, it's $2.75 more. I said not a problem and pull out my card which is all I had and originally paid with. The gentleman says, "oh card? It's a $5.00 minimum" I'm like, "wait, you want me to spend more money because you either didn't hear or understand my order?" HE SAID "YES!" WTF!!!???? Awesome customer service sir. One thing about Happy Burrito is they give you what seems like a home cooked burrito, meats have flavor and always fresh ingredients with no shortcuts, so everything's fresh, my only gripe is they don't have pico de gallo and you have to pay extra for chips but to be fair the burritos are probably the best priced in the area. They service their customers through metal tables and it's really just a quick bite so no big deal. The Ambiance is a moms and pops and probably is underrated. I have a customer for over 20 years with Happy burrito. I have been very pleased with their food that many years that I no longer live in the area periodically every year drive to get a burrito from there. I will have no other burrito, but Happy burrito they're prepared nicely. There's enough filling in the burritos they taste authentic to me. I would recommend this happy burrito. The only problem is they don't have their café open. They take orders from the door over the phone so you just lineup to get your order that way and that's OK because some people still are in the Covid way and doesn't bother me and apparently it doesn't bother a lot of people in the city, but Happy burrito has been there a while and they still are great. as well as the prices are excellent for what they're serving. The building again you're not allowed in the building but it looks the way I did when I worked over that way 20 something years ago so you're outside the building and you're waiting on your food to be prepared when you place your order or if you called it in you pick it up they passed the order directly to you in the inside that I can see. Went to try the enchilada dinner plate, it's a mini corn tortilla with a half palm-full of cheese and an ice cream scoop of dry rice and watered down beans, all for the ridiculous price of $8.50 plus tax. Nomz! My go to spot when I'm craving a burrito- it's affordable, (sorta) quick, and delicious! I've gone twice now. Yes, the interior is definitely unassuming, but the food more than makes up for it! I've had their happy chicken burrito and carne asada super burrito, and they are both SO tasty! So good, I think I might frequent this as long as I'm craving some tasty Mexican food for a good price! The hot sauce is also so yummy- it reminds me of hot cheetos when paired with tortilla chips. They're free with an order (but 35 cents extra for an extra cup). Your burritos are simple, solid and the price is right. Whenever people want a solid lunch and not break the bank, you are a great choice. The Happy burrito got everything you need to be happy. I've tried the Steak, the Carnitas - all pretty good. But let's be frank, it's the incredible, oh-man-that's-how-it-used-to-be pricing that makes everything somehow taste better. I know this as the line out the door testifies to it. There are business men from nearby corporations, there are construction workers, there are policemen, there are workers from other restaurants.
