Don't know the deal about this place, but I pass it sometimes on motorycle rides. One day I decided to stop. It's very good and very authentic--especially given that it's in Magalia. I've only had one dish, but it has the flavor of China and probably has a chef that knows what they're doing. read more

The lunch specials are awesome, with most items under $10. The food is 5-star delicious, portions are more than adequate, and you get soup, entree with rice, served with an egg roll and fried wonton. Worth the drive to Magalia. 100% better than Chin Dynasty. read more

I had a fine dining experience here at Happy Day C.R. today with my hunny bunny! Whoa Lahjah!! We ordered the fried rice w/prawns,walnut prawns,mixed vegetables w/chopped steak,and a superb pork egg fu yong. Each one of these flavorful items made my taste buds have a Happy Day. All this for around forty dollars U.S. The portions were good n' brought home the leftovers in a three 2go boxes. Good Chinese food and very nice people here. I'm glad to have them in our small town.

Okay, first off, Mary isn't there to take your order. She had most regulars' orders down. The lady at the register was nice. No problem there. Sorry to say, food was not good. Fried pork rice was so-so. Chicken Chow Mein, had very little chicken in it. Walnut shrimp had like 4 ,1/2 walnuts= to 2 walnuts for the whole dish and was like 2 shrimp less than the old place for the same price. Son loves foil wrapped chicken and accused me of eating some, when they only gave us 6 from the 8 we used to get. Seems like they have cut corners on everything to make money. I will never eat there again, nor will I suggest it to anyone. Take the drive to Paradise where the old staff work at Happy Garden. Much better food. read more

Called 8 times today to try to place an order for take out. Doing take out from them today had been part of my plan for over a month since my son and I were going to pick up take out and then go to paradise Lake for his birthday, which is today. I confirmed they are open and are doing take out a while back, since the pandemic. The website says their open, yet they never answered. Goes straight to a voicemail with no indicator you're even calling a restaurant. Just a generic outgoing voicemail that says "this person is unavailable right now" . Sounds like they're out of business to me! You don't have a generic outgoing voicemail as a business. read more

Ask for "off menu items" like chow, chow mein and others if they aren't busy. A step above other places. Some places only offer pork fried rice, not this place. They offer chicken, pork, beef and house fried rice. That's just the side dish. These guys are the real deal! King Pao, broccoli beef, asian salad and shrimp in bean sauce are must have! read more

Came up from Paradise on this rainy afternoon, to a totally empty parking lot, at about 3:15. Went inside, and when the hostess walked out, I said "Oh, gee, looks like I'm a little late, but do you think I could still get the lunch special?". "NO! You VERY late, you too late!" says the rude hag behind the counter. I understand, rules are rules, but the WHOLE POINT of the lunch special is to bring in new customers, show them what a nice place it is to eat, so they come back with their friends and family for dinner. I tip between 0 and 50 % on every bill, this stupid, stupid woman just cost her business more money than she realizes. I went to Sophia's Thai cuisine down the road. Great food, nice family, and better atmosphere, I won't bother with Happy Day again. (To be fair, the food is supposed to be good, but her attitude put me off, and there are a ton of good restaurants around that are hurting for business these days.) read more

Where to start? Well I guess I'll go on about their shitty service. There were 4 people working yet we didn't have one person that was refilling our waters or checking in on us. So my family seemed like those annoying a-holes that needed to flag someone down cause the typical things you expect when you go out to eat were not being met. When we sat down we had no napkins so my grandpa had to take them from a neighboring table because again, there was no one to ask. The food: dad ordered some ribs and two of them on the plate were still pretty much frozen so they sent them back and when they came back they were so hot you couldn't touch them and they were super rubbery (probably because of the time they spent in the microwave). So those were wasted. One of us found a p of plastic in the veggie rice so that was a nice nutritional value.. For free!!! read more

If you live within 50 miles you've gotta come here to eat Chinese food! It's the best we've ever eaten in our lives! So if you live in Chico or Oroville - don't miss out - it's worth the drive. Not only are the flavors of the food unbelievable but the prices are so affordable. The hostess went above and beyond and asked the owners to upgrade our meal to include a whole other entree at no additional cost! Forget flavorless chow mein - this is what Chinese food is meant to taste like. The dinner salad was divine and addictive and would be well worth stopping in just to order it alone! Super friendly service really rounded out the entire experience. Although we live in Oroville from now on we're going to Happy Day restaurant in Magalia, CA to get our Chinese food fix. By the way we were told not to go here because someone said there was a better Chinese restaurant in Magalia - oh boy am I glad I trusted my instincts and we went here or I would've missed out on the best Chinese food in Butte County! read more

I moved to Paradise from San Francisco - Chinese food capital of the United States - and was VERY happy with Happy Day Chinese Restaurant! The food was equally as good as my favorite places in SF. Not having a menu, I ordered over the phone and guessed at what they might have. I got crispy pan fried noodles and they turned out perfect. They put the sauce/meat/vegies on the side so the noodles were still crispy for leftovers. Also, the walnut shrimp/prawns were the best I've ever had. The egg rolls were crispy - not soggy at all. I didn't order much because it was my first order from them, but it most definitely won't be my last! read more

I found their food to be pretty mediocre. Nothing wrong with it, but the flavor wasn't on the better end of Chinese food I've tried. I thought one of the places on Skyway in Paradise was much better. Bottom line, if I'm really craving Chinese and don't want to travel far, this will do. If I want better tasting Chinese I'll just drive into Paradise. read more

Great tasting food, but very frustrating to order pickup. No matter how long they tell you it will take to pick up, you'll wait another 20 - 30 minutes after you arrive, almost like they've waited for you arrive before they start cooking. Their garlic green beans and Mongolian beef are awesome, just eat it there. Ordering it for pickup will take you twice as long as they say. read more

This place has really gone down hill. Been here over an hour after being seated. We were served the pu pu platter and the plate it was served on was broken and we propped it up with a saucer. Looking closer it had been taped together with masking tape. Oh and we had to ask for plates to put it on. When we received our food (hour and twenty after being seated) my wife's rice was cold but her main dish was warm. Mine was hot so I don't know what the problem was. The food all tasted good. I had the Won Ton soup and it was the best bowl of Won Ton soup I have ever had. First time, I did not have to add Soy Sauce. It came with pork which is not my preferred meat. Ill check next time about getting shrimp. read more

After the inferno, magalia only has a couple places to go out and eat. happy day must have changed ownership, because the last two times ive bought dinner their it was awful. big big noticeble change in the food. the soup was awful, the egg roll was soggy the noodles were mushy it was gross. i used to love this place. what a bummer. read more

After the Camp fire, there were no restaurants at all open, so we are grateful for this one! the egg foo young was excellent, and I am formerly from bay area, and have been to many chinese restaurants--their authentic chow fun noodles were also good. Just called in to do my order very simple it's the 1195 combo special wonton soup Phoenix and Dragon for the meat they can understand a word I was saying and I cannot hardly understand them and I'm trying to explain myself in my order and I was in there the other day and I ordered the same thing and I have no problem when I was inside the store and then she proceeded to just hang up on me I will never go to this establishment ever again. Having moved to Paradise a year and a half ago, my husband and I have been searching for a great Chinese restaurant. We tried Chico and Paradise but were ultimately disappointed. Today, we tried Happy Day. We arrived around 2:45, and ordered from the luncheon menu. For $6.95 we had soup, an egg roll, choice of steamed or fried rice and our choice of several entrees. We tried the Pork Chow Mein and Mongolian Beef. Both were delicious, fresh and served hot. The service was friendly and fast. Love this place! read more

I eat here often, at least once per month sometimes more since it's the only local Chinese food. Sometimes it's better than others but it's always good. The people are nice and friendly. I've been given free soup, extra fortune cookies, and extra generous portions from time to time depending on how busy they are. Since the fire they are better than I remember, I think it's because they have a lot more business now so the ingredients stay fresher or they are able to buy higher quality ingredients. I recommend the sesame beef, lemon and orange chicken, and walnut shrimp. The hot and sour soup is also good and I'm pretty picky about that, it's always the first thing I try and often let down even from other good Chinese restaurants. read more

First off, I've eaten here for years. I am a bay area transplant and found Happy Day to always be very good. Especially the General's Chicken, snowpeas with water chestnuts, pork fried rice, and Hot and Sour soup. Single dish orders are huge and more than you can eat, so plenty of take home. Horrible. Since moving to the ridge have tried this place a couple times. No more. Appetizer ribs...Looks great with coloring and glaze but mostly fat on a bone I gagged on it. General Chicken...more gagging. Nice flavor but after chewing a piece for about 5 minutes had to finally spit it out. Like chicken gum. Would recommend that if you have to eat from here, stick to noodle dishes or fried rice. After our experiences, we will not be back ever. read more
