I'm very happy with Happy Home. At first I was a bit skeptical because it's a new daycare, but once I got to know the staff and saw educational improvements with my toddler, I became a lot more comfortable. They definitely teach them a lot because my toddler comes home with new words all the time, and his teachers are so sweet and loving. They have an outdoor playground for the kids and they keep you updated with what's going on. I will most definitely recommend this daycare. We are very pleased parents. read more

This place is the worst. My husband and I are very glad to have taken our son out of there. He's much happier at the daycare we have him in now. I can relate to the injury reports, or lack there of . My son would come home with unexplained bruises and scratches, but because we didn't strip him down and checked every part of his body before we left the daycare, they were not held responsible. Every time we would pick him up, most the kids were crying, clothes dirty while the teachers sat on the floor just watching them. The only thing they were good at and consistent with was collecting tuition. read more

My son has been in the Busy Bee classroom since September 7, 2015. I find Happy Home to be a wonderful learning experience for my child. We toured a lot of facilities and found that many times the people who were tasked with looking after my son looked dirty, unkempt, and just very trashy. I was impressed with our discussion with the Owner Dr. Tillman and even more impressed with the Director, Ms. Cortes. Happy Home has the NAEYC Accreditation that means that their teachers have undergraduate degrees or the CDA with a certain number of years experience. I do not know what NAEYC stands for...Sorry. Each morning, the children have worship. I love that aspect of the school. Every time my son arrives at school he reaches for Ms. Cortes or his teacher Ms. Rabia. There is no fear or apprehension. I have done drop ins unannounced and have not seen any issues. This is a very diverse school. I love that my son is in class with students of varying ethnicities and languages. I also love that he has teachers of varying ethnicities. I also appreciate having a uniform for the children. It is a simple shirt, but it reduces all of the anxiety and management you have to execute when dressing your child every day. The center provides breakfast (even though we are too late to get it ), snack, and lunch every day. Lunch is not provided on Friday. However, what I love...They have a VEGETARIAN OPTION for my VEGETARIAN CHILD :-). Cons: Hours - Happy Home closes promptly at 6pm with a late fee of $5/minute for the first 30 minutes you are late. Sometimes in the DMV, the traffic can be so bad and there is no real accommodation for that. My husband and I are working professionals with pretty demanding jobs. I would love it if Happy Home had extended day care or after hours care. Communication - They could do a better job emailing announcements and reminders to parents. If you miss a day at the school with pick up you may miss vital information about the upcoming school day. I would recommend the Director send a weekly email with updates to the parents. Location - I hate Southern Towers. If you have been there you know what I am talking about. That being said, the center is much larger than it appears and it has a nice playground. I really enjoy sending my child to Happy Home. He is thriving, he does not have any weird cuts and bruises, and I find the location to be clean and tidy every day. The teachers have more training that the centers in other places that charge $200 - $300 more per week. I guess that is the best part. I feel like my son has a great experience and I pay LESS THAN $300/ week for a 1 year old. read more

Our Daughter has been with Happy Home for more than 3 years - since she was 3 months old - we moved from the old location in Old Town Alexandria to the current location in Seminary Towers. We have seen our daughter grow and flourish under the guidance of the staff; she loves going there in a morning, enjoys her teachers and has some great friends to play with. The old adage 'you can't judge a book by its cover' is accurate, the facilities are in need of modernizing - which is being coordinated with the building - but overall this is a gem of a place that your children will enjoy going to and it will prepare them for school. The leadership and teachers are all friendly and kind, they hold the children to high standards and keep you updated daily as to how they are behaving and learning. We recently moved house and the location isn't ideal for us but we continue to go there due to the experience and progress we have seen with our daughter, our son will be going there when he turns 1 in the spring. read more

I recently toured this place for my children. I would not send my dog to this daycare. It is old, dirty and very crowded. The space is very small for the number of "classrooms" they have. They are possibly undergoing a renovation (the whole apartment complex it occupies is) but the assistant director couldn't give me a straight answer as to what they have decided to do. The area itself is really run down. They was tape on the heater/a/c unit. There was a space blocked off with a baby gate because the cabinets were broken and a vacuum was stored there (all within reach of a small child). There is a kitchen area that was dirty and the bottom of the cabinets were peeling or rusted paint and just below that was something that looked like steel wool or huge dust balls. We asked if it was ever used and the director told us that no food was brought in from an outside source but they but it in the kitchen area to be distributed to the children. I and the other lady who was touring with me were appalled at this place. Dr. Tillman should be ashamed to call this her daycare and I cannot believe the Washingtonian would rate this place so high. They must of meant somewhere else. I was very disappointed because the location is great and the price is right but as they say you get what you pay for. read more

My son has been attending Happy Home since June 2015, and I'm amazed how much he has learned. Within the first month of being there, he was writing his first and last name, and he was only 3 years old. He has started to read now as a preschooler so will be able to start kindergarten as a reader. Not only has he developed academically, but he has grown into a confident little guy. He comes home every day telling me about all his friends and showing me the work that he did. Happy Home emphasizes the development of the whole child. The director and teachers are great, and my son loves them! I really like the daily reports, monthly newsletters, holiday parties, and the schools emphasizes on the community (i.e. Making sandwiches for the homeless, collecting coats, etc.) My son will be graduating this June 2017, but I will be enrolling his younger brother in the fall! read more

I send my daughter Vivianna to this school and I must say I am happy with how much she has grown and thrived since she has been going to this school. She started coming here in November 2017 and she was a shy reserved little girl. Now she is not shy and she is very comfortable which makes me happy. Everyday i pick her up she is playing with the kids and always has a smile on her face. Happy Home has truly become a part of our lives and I truly appreciate everything that the teachers have done for her in terms of her speech language issue. I compared Happy Home to centers in Alexandria, Falls Church, and Arlington and I came to the conclusion that there was no better place for my son. I can not say enough about how much I appreciate what my son has learned from attending Happy Home. I'm consistently impressed with how his learning capabilities have progressed throughout his time there. He is now four years old, but at three, he already knew the entire alphabet by way of spelling out the letters in words, counting numbers, spelling and writing his name and even reciting poetry (just to mention a few). My son has been attending Happy Home since January 2015, he was 15 months old at that time and now my daughter has joined her brother since October 2016. The first week of starting at Happy Home my son learned to say the color "purple" and was able to point out to color purple. The teachers are wonderful, they really care about each child development. The teachers communicate very well with parents. We get daily report of what our kids learned that day and they have parent and teacher conferences. Basically the teacher will sit with you and go over how your child's learning is and what areas your child need improvement. They have curriculums appropriate for the child's age group. Each month they provide you a newsletter with information regarding activities and more. The owner is very involved, caring and has open door policy. The assistant director is awesome with communicating with parents and I love how she interact with all the kids. It has been a blessing to find a daycare with such professional and loving teachers whom we fully trust. Our kids are happy and love going to Happy Home every morning.
