Characters make most kids (including my own) happy so I tend to have them at most our parties. And my kids always seem to like the characters that are extra hard to find- most recently the characters from lion king and LOL Surprise Dolls. So I was psyched when I discovered Happy Kids Chicago. Nilmari at Happy Kids is extremely responsive and flexible. She's a woman after my own heart responding to texts and emails right away so booking characters was easy peasy. I ordered a LOL Surprise Doll to deliver pizza on my daughter's bday. Nilmari came (and acted as a photographer) with the doll herself and was on time and brought a few dominos pizzas. While these 7 and 8 year old girls no longer believe these characters are real it was a fun surprise for them. All my 3 year old wanted was Simba and Rafiki to attend his party. I purposely asked for them to come the last 45 minutes of the party because while he was excited, I had a feeling they may clear out the party. When they called during the party to let me know they would be 15 minutes late I was slightly annoyed since I then knew a lot of the kids would miss them, but was going to make it work. However, I think they got lost in the jungle because they showed up 35 minutes late (no joke) so there were only a few kids left at the party by the time they arrived. I texted Nilmari several times while waiting for them and she answered right away even though she was out of the country and was extremely apologetic. She also refunded my $ within minutes, which was much appreciated. The photographer who accompanied them was also very nice and apologetic about the situation. At the end of the day the bday boy got a few minutes with his favorite characters for free (he actually ended up being a little scared himself) but still not an ideal experience. I'm hoping this isn't the norm for Happy Kids so would try them again, but probably only if I confirmed Nilmari herself was coming as or with the character. I would also not wait til the very end of the party because I've had late experiences with characters from other companies as well, but in this case I was worried about scared kids. read more

We had THE MOST AMAZING time with the Happy Kids Chicago crew... the kids were running late to the birthday party so us adults had to do the kid's games... I've never seen my mom, sister, uncle husband laugh so hard in all my life as they competitively scooted across the floor with no hands on little seat scooters... or speedily walk with an egg in a spoon. I booked Happy Kids Chicago for my daughter's second birthday party/parade. We reserved a "Mickey" character. The character was scheduled to arrive at 2:30p. At approximately 2:40p Mickey still had not arrived so I contacted the owner who stated they should be nearby but that she would double check to confirm. She texts me back to say they are approximately 30 mins away due to their car breaking down. At this point, I am extremely annoyed because we were not contacted to be made aware that the character was running behind. Our whole parade is now late because Mickey was not there. On top of that, we paid for an hour show. The owner then states, they will need to cut the show from an hour to a half hour. At that point I completely lost it and requested a refund (which was sent right away). Thank God. However, I then received a text shortly after which incited me even more. The text read, "Just note, your party was scheduled to begin at 2:30, our character would have arrived at 3:00p which still would have given you a 30 min show". I then replied "you texted me at 2:45p stating they were 30 mins away, meaning I would have gotten a 15 min show". The lack of communication was completely unprofessional!! The last text I received almost a hour later stated they were still stranded with the car on the highway and offering to come another day during the week for my daughter to take pics with Mickey. I never replied needless to say. The damage was done at that point. My daughter's party was still a success, however, Happy Kids was a huge disappointment. Would not recommend. read more

We booked a bouncy house, 30 min show with an L.O.L surprise doll character (Queen Bee) and 1 hour face painting! We had about 20 kids get their face painted! The face painter did a great job with lots of details! Updated to respond to comment: The event was not open to the public. It was by pre-registered ticket only, and the event was actually advertised as 'limited tickets'... so you can imagine our surprise that 70 kids plus their parents were there. I am aware this was the venue's owners doing and not Happy Kids, but wanted to ensure you that it was not 'open to the public'. When I first emailed the venue to submit my concerns to them as well, the owner actually AGREED that the sound was much louder on the night I attended. Why they didn't ask the entertainer to turn it down, is beside me. Especially since I asked them first to have it turned down, which they responded 'it's up to the entertainer'... who also refused. I am disappointed greatly by both the host venue and this entertainment company. As for a dance party being expected to be loud.... please know that this event was NOT advertised as a dance party. It was advertised as a Valentines Day Dance with Mickey & Minnie. It seemed geared towards small children and more of an intimate setting with some music and dancing with Mickey & Minnie. My daughter did enjoy seeing Mickey and Minnie. It was her first time seeing characters. However, what those photos don't show are her complaining her ears hurt after we left and the following day, while repeating 'mickeys house too loud'. Please know that I was at the event with 4 other mothers who are in my mom group, and their toddlers, who experienced the same as me and my daughter. All of us wanted to leave within 5 minutes of the characters coming out but knew our kids would have a meltdown if we tried to take them out just after the characters arrived. My review and feedback comes as sincere concern for the environment the small children were put in. Thank you for verifying that this level of loud volume at events for such small children is normal for your company. I will for sure remember this when planning future events, and will also give this feedback to the mom community I am a part of so they can also be aware before considering your company. Lastly, I find your comment about my daughter specifically very disturbing. As though you know who I am specifically in a large room of over 100 people, and where I have not signed my full name or given a photo to reference. Original review: Attended a Mickey/Minnie Valentines dance last night at Playroom Cafe where Happy Kids Chicago was the hired entertainment. The audience was 95% toddlers with sensitive ears. The MC had the speaker so loud that it hurt my own adult ears. I politely asked her to turn it down a bit and she literally refused and said 'actually it's about to louder.... sorry!' We had to leave early as we could not take it any longer. My 2 y/o daughter was complaining her ears hurt all night and this morning and saying 'mickeys house too loud'. This is unacceptable. You need to know your audience and if people who paid for the event ask for music to be turned down, you should accommodate the requests! read more
