This happy lemon location doesn't seem to put in the effort of other happy lemon spots when it comes to the salted cheese drinks. Generally, there would be a way to sip it from the cup and some directions on doing so in order to make it a good experience. Using a straw definitely doesn't work as you would only be getting the tea. However, trying to drink it straight from the cup it was just a mouthful of salted cheese which was very unpleasant. I only learned of how to drink it properly because my friend explained it to me. But even then, I had to drink it from the cup with no lid which seemed whack. My friend also showed me photos of happy lemon from other locations and their salted cheese drinks looked so much better with cute foam art and nice lids. I did look around and did not see many people getting it so it's possible they knew this was not a good option here. Finally tried happy lemon last weekend with some friends and I wasn't disappointed. There's usually a really long line so I always pass it up, found out that the line actually moves pretty fast. I ordered milk tea with puff cream and taro balls. The milk tea was average but the cream and taro balls are what made the drink amazing. Getting a bit of cream with every sip was everything I imagined. The texture and taste of the taro balls was actually like taking a bite out of taro! Another Happy Lemon! I honestly love this place because there are so many in Los Angeles and coming to Seattle, it reminds me of home. I got their strawberry black tea with lychee jelly and its simply delicious. At 80% sweetness and no ice, this drink is awesome. It also isn't expensive being priced at $4.50. Although I remember the times when drinks used to be $3, this place is pretty fair when it comes to pricing. I also tried their hot jasmine milk tea and they really take it home. At 50% sweetness, it is a perfect amount and it is very indulgent when it is cold and raining in Seattle. Edit: Next time, I have to try the waffles! While this place is not in Seattle, it is well worth the 30 minute commute via bus 550 from downtown just for this milk tea. To me anyway. Because milk tea is life and Happy Lemon's milk tea definitely gives me life. On the menu it'll be the Milk Tea with Rock Salt Crema. I just cannot describe how perfect this milk tea is!!! I love that it's super sweet and doesn't have that low quality artificial taste that every other milk tea I've had in Washington seems to have. The first time I came here I also tried the Jasmine Green Tea with Rock Salt Crema and I didn't really like that one nearly as much because the jasmine was super fragrant tasting--too perfumey for me. Happy Lemon makes me happy! :D I enjoyed my Strawberry Shortcake smoothie. It was delicious and filling, but not overly sweet (even at the regular sweetness level). The options here are unique and healthier than most boba places, in my opinion. My only complaint would be the atmosphere- which isn't cozy. The lights are so bright and it's even noisier than somewhere big and bustling like Starbucks. I can't picture myself coming here to study or get work done. It's too loud to even have a conversation without having to scream at whoever you're with so they can hear you. Also, the wait time for receiving my drink was lengthy. The first thing I tried here was the Mango Matcha. Usually the first thing I try at a new bubble tea place is a strawberry green tea or grapefruit green tea, but this flavor sounded interesting. But I wasn't too much of a fan. I prefer the iced tea bubble teas, and the Mango Matcha tasted more like a milk tea. It was good, just not my preference for bubble tea. The second time I went, I ordered the Strawberry Jasmine Green Tea. It comes with lychee jelly, but I replaced it with tapioca. Now that was my kind of bubble tea. I really liked this one. It may be one of the best strawberry tea bubble teas I've tried recently and the best strawberry tea bubble tea around the area. Each time I've been here though has had a long wait. I was thrown off by the puff cream, as it seemed like butter cream. You'll have to mix this one thoroughly but it's not my favorite thing to drink. Jasmine Green Tea with Rock Salt Crema: 4/5 - I liked this drink better, as the flavors felt more balanced. A little confusing that there were instructions on how to properly enjoy the drink, but I didn't get the right kind of lid, so I ended up just mixing it all together. Incompetent staff - The staff could not figure out how to redeem / scan my promo offer and tried to blame it on the expiration date. I then showed them the expiration date which has not passed. I've put off on this review for a while but I made a trip to Happy Lemon during the summer right when it opened. The tea shop still had lines out the door but after my first failed attempt of ordering this was my last chance to get HL before I leave for home. The store itself is pretty small and all the tables are cramped together. With the heavy traffic due to opening recently it's hard not feeling like sardines in a can. Nonetheless, the staff are doing an exceptional effort handling the large volumes of people and placing orders quickly and efficiently. I really applaud them for that. I really wanted to try the milk cap/crema for the first time so I ordered the jasmine green tea with it. It wasn't that crazy or special like I imagined it would be. The crema had a smooth, cream like consistency, and faintly tasted like cream cheese. But it was hardly cheese at all. The jasmine tea had a nice body and flavor to it but I honestly prefer Kung Fu Tea a lot better haha. Maybe it's because HL was overhyped upon the opening that I feel slightly underwhelmed. Regardless, it was still a great drink. I hope HL can ride successfully off the wave of hype and establish itself as a staple tea shop in the Bellevue area. The boba milk tea was light and could have had a strong tea flavor but the boba was better than places in Seattle. The strawberry black tea was good and has chunks of actual strawberries. When life gives you lemon, make lemonade. When life gives you Happy Lemon, you better shallow a dose of patience and block out your schedule for possibly an hour to get some bubble tea. You know shit is real when they bring out one of those dividing belt thing to organize a line with signs on how the line goes like how Disney Land does it. I can't blame an establishment for being popular, you have to be happy for their success to stay in business, but I will say that it will not be a quick in & out so be prepared. It's the mall, just place your order and run errands or shop around in the mean time. From what I've learn, this is a popular brand in China and being the first store in the area where Bellevue is perfect in capturing their target demographic, it already has a hype before it even opened and being open since last week, the hype probably won't die down any time soon. Anyways, the menu was cute with some visuals of drawings of the drinks. You can adjust the ice and sugar level. If you order a drink with the rock salt creama, you get a special lid with a hole to sip out of which I thought was really cool instead of cutting the plastic top to sip out of like at Sharetea. I got the matcha avocado drink, can't go wrong with avocado. Damn, I'm just spoiled being in Bellevue with all these boba shops popping left and right all of a sudden. First off - I love boba! I have my go-to spots and I'm always down to venture to new boba shops especially if there's some hype about it. My boyfriend came to Bellevue Square one day and I told him I wanted to try the new boba shop that opened. I arrived and no surprise there was a line. The bubble waffles are made to order and majority of the customers ordered it. I read reviews talking about the menu being super cute but too small to read and it was :( I had to pull up the menu on my phone and decided to go with the Jasmine Green Milk tea with boba and 70% less sugar. I had to say, I've had better tapioca. It wasn't chewy and not that sweet. Maybe it was an off day or batch but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I'll have to try them again to see if it was just a bad batch. Pros: - super cute menu - Wide variety of drinks - Waffles are made to order meaning they're fresh! Lines are quite long at this location. There is a new Bellevue location and I noticed the line there is much shorter. I personally really like the matcha mango (K2). I like how you can choose the sweetness level for your drink. I usually get the 30% and it definitely sweet enough. Next to try on my list is the rock salt creama. I LOVE me some Happy Lemon from San Jose so was super happy they opened one up here. Sucks that it's in the mall so I waited till I was finally ready to venture in here. (Took me 10 minutes to find parking btw, and driving in circles...ugh) Anyway, the yellow and white sign is very bright so definitely noticeable walking into the mall. Everything else nearby is dark and dim so this place seriously caught alot of eyes walking by. I was disappointed to see that the menu was different than the one in SJ. I wanted a mango lemon slushy but apparently they don't have that here.... bummer :( I opted to try the seasonal drink: the strawberry jasmine green tea which had the lychee jelly included. I'm confused a bit because it looks like it was partially blended.. but not really (look at the pic). It wasn't bad, and I was surprised that I can taste the strawberry, jasmine and green tea flavor in every sip. Probably not going to be my go to drink but maybe will come by to try something "lemon-y".. which is probably the right thing to do LOL. Hands down the worst boba experience for me. Heard they just opened so decided to check it out since my boyfriend and I were at Bellevue Square. What a cute boba shop! It's a pretty small place though and since they just opened, it was crowded and there definitely was a line. Their menu is cute but so hard to read from afar because one, the menu was in this small cursive font and two, it was pretty high up on the wall. Us and a few other customers had to walk up to the cashier just to read it. They have a recommendation section too if you don't know what to order. We ordered Milk Tea with Boba, Pudding, and Lychee Jelly and Milk Tea with Taro Boba. Milk Tea with Boba, Pudding, and Lychee Jelly was alright. Wish it was a tad sweeter. The boba itself was a bit hard to chew. A little undercooked maybe? DON'T GET THE MILK TEA WITH TARO BOBA. It's so bland! Just no flavor at all. You can barely taste the tea, or the taro in the boba. The worst boba drink I've ever gotten. Such a disappointment. What made it a bad experience was after 15 minutes of drinking it, our stomach starting hurting...I have never had this happened to me before. Maybe we got a bad batch? Service was good. I felt that since they just opened, the employees were overwhelmed with the amount of orders at once that a lot of people's drinks were delayed. Grand openings are like an episode of The Walking Dead. You've got crazed mobs of bubble tea fans crowding around the store and a tight-knit group working furiously to defend themselves. On the bright side, this was one of the best grand opening experiences I've had. Waiting in line to having my drink in hand took 30 mins. They also had opening promos like a free size upgrade (per order) and double drink points. My baseline drink: Classic Milk Tea with Boba, Pudding, and Lychee Jelly was solid and pretty similar to Coco's. I also enjoyed the Jasmine Tea with Salted Cream. The foam doesn't weigh down the drink like creamer does. Keeping the refreshing quality of the tea, plus giving it a pleasant salty-sweet flavor combo. I'd say Happy Lemon came out of the apocalypse/grand opening on top. A few menu items like bubble waffles and special drinks were labeled as coming soon. So I'd give them some time to sort it out. I ordered the Avocado Matcha, one of the popular and recommended drink at Happy Lemon. Have to say it is very refreshing and unique drink. The avocado taste is not overwhelming as you might think, it's got a smoothie like texture but not too thick, and I got the regular sweetness and it's just right for me! Since I'm pregnant I asked the cashier if they have any non-caffeine drinks available, and they do have the option of making the drink without the matcha (which has caffeine) and other non-caffeine drinks they have are: chocolate milk with rock salt crema or chocolate with taro ball which can be great for kids!
