The Chinese food may be overly greasy for some, being absolutely slathered in the stuff. But if you grew up in the Llanrumney area and ate this every now and then, there's something primal that calls you back to it. I've moved on up now, to bigger and better things, but I still get a hankering for their special fried rice every now and then and ordering it from other places has never been the same. They also do special meal deals at lunchtimes, and their lunchtime special is just fantastic. Half chips, half rice, sweet and sour or curry sauce on top. It's the reason half the St. Illtyd's schoolchildren are so fat. On top of this, their fish and chips is the stuff of legends. With curry sauce poured on top, and enough bread and butter to make a good few chip butties... Excuse me folks, if you need me, I'll be in my bunk.

The food is better than it has ever been before and they now have top chefs working in the kitchen. The chips they serve are now 110% better than they have ever been. Trust me if you just give the shop another chance you will not regret it and will come back again and again. The Lucky Palace is now the best Chinese Restraunt/Takeaway in the Cardiff area.

I took them back to the chip shop, and was told that they were yesterday's chips, and had been left all night in the frier. The assistant told me he asked the owner of the shop what to do with them, and was told to fry them for resale the day after. They did reimburse my dad his money, but the owner refused to talk to me, he was at the back of the shop, he blamed his sister instead, who was unfortunately not on the premises. The wok inn does really good business, making good profit. Better profits, should mean better service. The public deserve better service than this. This business prepares and handles food. After today's incident, I am taking my business else where.

What I particularly liked was that none of the items came with the excess oil/ghee so common in takeaways. Instead, all the items were tasty, and beautifully spiced. I don't like very hot spices and found "two chillies" of heat was plenty (items with three chillies would have been too much). Our meal of poppadums, 2 naan, 16 mini samosas, 4 onion bhajia, a tray of chicken pakoras and 4 curries came to £59. It was plenty for 4 and made for two meals. It is a cold indian which means you order, they cook it, blast freeze it and give it to you to take home and cook whenever. That was a strange concept to me at first but now I just pick it up earlier and like being able to heat it up when I want. No more waiting for delivery drivers to turn up not knowing when you are going to eat. The staff are very friendly and the menu is ever changing. Every week they put on a special additional menu with lots of curries you have never heard off, each unique and worth trying. The only issue I have had is a couple of times I have had to wait longer than specified on the phone. One time I waited over an hour longer in the shop, although that was an exception. Service was friendly, and as I'd rung the order in ahead it was very quick. The beef chow mein was decent- plenty of meat and a generous portion for one. The crispy beef in sweet and sour sauce was absolutely swimming in gravy-thick artificially-bright red sauce and a reasonable helping. The serving of rice for one was just right, but this isn't one of those takeaways where one order of rice will serve two people. It's nearby so I'll be trying this place out again, as it's very reasonable and friendly but not outstanding.
