I wouldn't know I didn't have more than a tea and scone there. The food did LOOK good, but it was a bit pricey, and we weren't there for lunch. Instead, we went for the birds. Please, please go, first and foremost, for the birds. They are truly wonderful, and are sorely overlooked. For a mere £5 (£3 for kids), you can have a good look around at the birds themselves, but also have unlimited access to the several flight displays the centre hosts throughout the day. The staff are great fun, very friendly and very knowledgeable, and we even got a chance to get hands on ourselves, holding Dudley the 5-week old Little Owl, and looking right into the eyes of a Harris Hawk. Good breakfast menu with vegetarian options (their veggie full breakfast is great but I opted for scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast today which came with either tea or coffee). There is a restaurant menu in the evenings but we've not tried that so I can't comment other than to say they make a point of using local and seasonal produce. Worth stopping and calling in for the stunning views across the causeway to Holy Island alone. Oh, and the Border Tart is to die for!

The trail itself is fun for children to go around especially when you get to feed the ducks and fish. Plenty of goats, sheep, pigs, etc. to see as you go around and don't worry if the goats are out, they like a wander and don't seem to be put off by mere fences in their way. There's an adventure playground half way round so that the parents can take a break though I think rules are still in place against bringing your own food for picnics (Foot and Mouth regulations) but maybe worth ringing ahead in case this has changed.

The most welcoming and comfy, the best for my budget, and the one surrounded by the most scenic beauty. I may have stayed only one night but I loved the breakfast I was treated to the next morning and the night before the staff helped me pick out a scotch that I really liked and wanna find now that I'm back in the states. Only negative would maybe be that Uber drivers are willing to dropoff, but not pickup, from this spot (too rural? - idk, really only seemed like a 15-20 min ride from the heart of Edinburgh) But there is a train station only about a 10 min walk from the really quaint cottage atmosphere you're going to get if you stay here. Again, cannot recommend The Sun Inn enough - would absolutely love to stay here if I find myself across the pond again!

The lower star rating was for the room because it was in an awkward place in the curve of the stairs. No wifi signal was strong enough to enter! My main issue was the amount of people who stop mid stair to hold a full and loud conversation without realizing the steps go to a room.

When I was planning this adventure Dalhousie Castle was running a fantastic deal on a two night stay packing. Great staff, extraordinary food and feel of relaxation with charm plus pampering. It was definitely a gem in this vacation crown. Just wanted to say that there were three staff members that really stood out, Two staffers in the restaurants, unfortunately I can't remember their names but they were from Greece and Spain were extremely friendly. The young lady that ran the spa was just great and accommodating.

This…read moreis in a lovely spot with beautiful views on the outskirts of Selkirk and full of olde worlde charm. Not much in Selkirk itself but it's a great spot for touring around the Borders. We were in a family room which was huge. There was ony 2 of us sharing but it would easily have accommodated 4 people with room to spare and the whole hotel was spotlessly clean. The food was excellent and very good value for money. There was a great choice for dinner and, while breakfast was described as Full Scottish Breakfast, you could virtually ask for whatever you wanted. I overhead several people asking for various combinations of breakfast items and it didn't phase Anoinette (the owner) one bit. Actually, nothing really phased Anoinette one bit she bent over backwards to make sure we felt very much at home. This hotel has a lovely relaxed and very friendly atmosphere and all of the staff were comfortable chatting to you as they went about their business. The quiz night on the Saturday was a great laugh and really encouraged all of the hotel guests to mingle and chat with one another. Beware, however, the Hotel Team they cheat mercilessly! Can definitely recommend this place and very much look forward to going back again.
