We were now completely fed up with student style homes, with awful student style landlords and the poor service they offered. Enter: Park Crest Properties. As soon as we saw the website we felt we'd found a hidden gem, an exciting new mid-way between student life and young professional life. The website was easy to use, simple but classy and offered a great selection of houses and flats. Perfect. After choosing the one we desired (complete with little garden and 'cloud burst' shower head, oh yes!) we called to arrange an appointment. Our landlord-to-be (who is also also the estate agent) could not have been more efficient. He was punctual, informative and honest. After the viewing we signed up almost immediately - although it was a lot smaller than our previous home, it was lovely. It was the eye for detail (as it says on their website) that really made the difference, most especially in the bathroom - it was like some kind of luxury spa and extremely well looked after. Of course, you don't have a rented house without complaint, but anything we took issue with, our landlord was prompt in both communicating with us and acting on our problems. And once we had all decided to go our separate ways sorting out the bonds was, to my great relief, totally fine. We couldn't get them back until we sent proof that we had paid our final utilities, which I think is more than fair, and within the week of doing so we received our cheques with only a small deduction for some minor things. The entire experience was both professional and personal, and this is a lovely, understanding and efficient estate agents. I highly recommend!

What this means is that I have visited practically every estate agent in Leeds. On the occasion that I visited this one I was on a very tight schedule to find somewhere to live and probably came across as quite panicked and desperate. Lucky for me then that the guy in the office was brilliant and calming. At the time they didn't have any properties that were suitable, only because I had to move in three weeks and they didn't have any available that soon. Rather than just tell me to try somewhere else bless him the guy spent nearly an hour with me going through my options. Not only did he tell me where else to try but suggested a couple of places and pointed me in the right direction. He was also lovely in that he told me about a couple of areas in Leeds that I hadn't considered. There can't be many places to work like this: the oldest Hall in the UK to still be home to the…read moreoriginal family (Broughton has been the seat of the Tempest family since the 14th Century, although Broughton Hall as it stands is Georgian). The outhouses, stables and barns have been converted into offices for over 50 companies by the Tempests' enterprising heir apparent, Roger. The bold move, made to prevent the estate from falling into disrepair, could have all gone so terribly wrong; however, while the buildings are stylish, well-equipped characterful offices on the inside, from the outside, they look no less like the stables and barns they once were. The estate is roamed by a peacock, and inhabited by countless rabbits, pheasants, voles, hares and all sorts that you might encounter on a lunchtime stroll. And there is plenty of opportunity for strolling - paths that twist and wind, a track over the fields to the nearby Bull pub, and a great walled garden full of beautifully cultivated flowerbeds that tower overhead and burst with colour. Easily accessible by car and bus just off the A59, the Park proper is split into two main areas by Broughton Beck - the main Business Park is on the side of the main house and grounds, with the stunning walled garden and ample parking space for the hundreds of employees. Down a verdant woodland track and across a small bridge is the Watermill area, equally abundant in parking and graced with a charming courtyard complete with fish pond. In all weathers and seasons, the estate is a true joy. Add to that the wonderful extras the Estate provides for the benefit of workers, such as the incredible annual fireworks spectacle on Bonfire Night for workers and their families, and you really have an enviable workplace indeed. In fact, it's funny how often London-based clients for the company I've worked for on and off since 2008 will say "Nononono, it's quite alright, we'll travel to you this time..."

On my prior visits to Horsforth I had somehow managed to miss the main street of shops for the lesser shopping area, not that either are worth overlooking as both have a lot to offer. However, this meant that I hadn't found the Horsforth branch of David James. On another visit, on the advice that there are a number of great clothing shops, I happily discovered this secondary branch. Yet again I was impressed by their imaginative and beautiful window displays! There was one whole section themed in blues, ivories and greys with some delightful wall papers - one was embossed with a menagerie of zoo animals and another had a silver birch tree pattern for example. The display was finished off with other decorative examples of materials, blinds and other items. There was another window which was themed in rich reds and oranges, with some luxury cushions and curtains on show, all put together in a bit more of a vintage fashion. All in all, the shop is a delight to wander around and get some great interiors ideas/advice. There are hundreds of different materials and themes to browse and it's certainly a great starting place if you're thinking of an overhaul in one of your rooms! Now, if only I had my own home so that I might utilise such a lovely place! I think the only odd touch to the shop was the Marilyn Manson painting by the door, but hey, even if it didn't quite match the style of the shop it was pretty cool! With made to measure curtains, fabrics from £10 a metre, accessories, design, lighting and more, this place is a great place to start if you're going for that all important redecoration.

Dave came out to look at our leaking roof. He was very knowledgeable and showed us photos and videos of the condition of our roof. He advised us that a roof repair would be a waste of money and that our roof was beyond economical repair. We went ahead with the work and from the start Dave and his team were polite, punctual and professional. They respected our home and left it clean and tidy We are really happy with our new roof including fascia's and guttering. The shop is still listed on Leeds Guides, but I can assure you, it is well and truly closed for business! I guess it's off to WH Smith for anything else I need!
