I came in as a healthy, young male for a pre-employment physical. Working in healthcare, I get physicals at least annually, among other tests and screens. She could have easily performed a cursory physical exam, asked me whether I could physically work, and signed my form. Instead, Dr. Velez provided a complete physical exam, obtained a full medical and surgical history, and screened me for a few health conditions based on my intake forms and family history. Needless to say, I was impressed with her approach this visit. Not only does she provide comprehensive care, she also knows how to build rapport. She entered the room with a friendly smile, used little medical jargon, which improves communication for many, and was very approachable. If I were to stay in Orlando, she would be my primary care physician! Velez Family Health is located in Dr. Phillips in an office building. It's not visible from the parking lot, but if you walk down the hall of the north building, you'll find this clinic on the first floor past the restrooms. The place is clean, and the front desk staff is affable. Want a doc who truly cares about your health? Come here!

I love the fact that his office is in a neighborhood, on a residential street. It feels like a remanent of another era. An era where there were neighborhood doctors who knew you and your family and were only a call away. Being a mid-eighties baby, I'm assuming this era existed. Either way, it feels good pulling up to a neighborhood office. I called to make my initial new patient appointment and was really shocked to hear that they could fit me in two days from that time. Every other doctor's office I had called couldn't take me until three weeks from now (minimum). George made sure to remind me that they only take cash or check (no credit cards), but my copay should be fairly low given my insurance. Was it a little odd that they don't take CC? Yeah. Did it matter when they could get me in so quickly? NOPE! The lobby is nice and neat and has a TV (HGTV for the win!) and the paperwork was straightforward. George, who initially took my call, showed me to the room and we chatted for a while (everyone in Orlando knows everyone!). It was an extra touch of friendliness that made me smile and made the time pass more quickly. The doctor arrived and was very pleasant and efficient- but not in a way that felt rushed. By the end of the appointment I asked about his background and we talked about regions in Spain worth visiting. Again, friendliness goes a long way! Overall, a great visit and I am SUPER glad to have a new doctor nearby (versus the 30 minute trek I used to make).

He's always warm-hearted, genuinely caring, fast but doesn't rush. More than worth the drive for me to see him. His office has appointments as early as 7am, as late as 7pm and even on Saturdays. They also offer x-rays, Dexascans, minor surgery, audiological screening-things for which you usually have to get a referral for and cough up another co-pay. They offer aesthetic services, too. It took 6 months to get in for my first appointment, but it was worth it because now I'm an established patient and can get in whenever I need. My suggestion? Make the appointment even if you think it's too far out. You can always cancel if you find another PCP that can see a new patient sooner, but establishing yourself as a patient is key. The office is located near the Target shopping plaza just outside of Baldwin Park in an office building. It is pretty basic, but clean and the woman at the front desk was very friendly. A nurse brought me back to take my weight and medical history. He wasn't the friendliest and I heard him tell several patients he was tired (when they asked "Hi! how are you?" I can definitely understand being at work when you're not feeling up to it, but it made me a bit worried he was tired because he was sick and being in a doctor's office already has me worried I'm going to catch something... Anyway, Dr. Maharaj came in and was a pleasure to speak to. She was clearly very knowledgeable, and spent time asking me questions and running a quick physical exam. Overall, I had a great experience and though I hope I won't be there often, I feel I'll be in good hands when I need it. It's amazing how she can feel her way around and can tell where your body is off alignment. I always feel amazing after a tune up! I also love that this is a small business. It's private practice, not a big hospital. I feel genuinely cared for by Dr. Maharaj and her entire staff. She even had her son intern one summer and he was so professional and attentive. Almost forgot to mention, she also administers botox, fillers and other beauty procedures. It has been a year since Wellmed corporate dropped all it commercial insurance. I just want tell you some of experience since my last visit. 1st I began to request my complete file I had been a patient since 1989/ while the computer record want back to 2005. I submitted the request in June of 2024 for the complete records. ( I mean everything that was produced or recevied from other offices.) At first I was sent 2 months of files from Versima (they manage the record) I was give a run around no file found, donot have excess to those files, etc for months. I had to reach out to Wellmed corp,then optum and the United Healthcare Group ( parent company) it was close to 8 months before I or my new PCP recevied my files. And even some where missing still. When I contract corporate about it i fid not get an answer back at all 2nd the Wellmed office was to be available to use to ask question until January 1 2025. But they shut down the partial portal in September less then a month after the last visit. So we could not ask a question or look at the files or medication etc. 3rd the office and clinical staff was doing there best to help over 10,000 patient (only this location plus everyone from it countless office in Florida) transition to new doctor. It was Wellmed corporate that gave little notice that it was transiting ONLY TO MEDICARE PATIENT. The office manager was just bad! With short tempted and would not or was not able to explain is simple tream what was going on. 4th Wellmed Corp was worse never returned a call or email.

I've been coming to Family Medical Center for almost the better part of a decade now. I am, for the…read moremost part, fairly healthy with room for improvement (especially dietary-wise). However, I don't typically have a ton of health issues that require ongoing and frequent care. That being said, in the handful of times in which that has changed due to whatever health concerns arisen, this practice has been pretty good about ensuring that I get the most optimal treatment or referrals to specialists for treatment possible. I've been very fortunate that my experience with this practice has been primarily a positive one. Though, I do take some gripe with the fact that we don't alway get to see our primary care doctors due to scheduling and usually have to opt to see a nurse practitioner in their place. It's not the end of the world, but it is common practice especially if something comes up prior to the traditional annual we receive. Beyond that, even with the nurse practitioner, I've still had really great interactions with ALL the staff that have aided in my care. So, for as long as I'm a resident of Orange County, I'll be keeping this practice as my go-to primary health care. I must note, that health is a deeply personal journey and it is not always the easiest finding health practitioners that are truly working towards ensuring that you are not only healthy, but that also seek to ensure you maintain that health (or help you get to that point). I sympathize with any and everyone, that have had negative experiences (even here - as my mom has been one to have a negative experience and no longer comes to this practice). I understand, that, as I a noted, I have been very fortunate that my care here has been very positive and I pray it remains as such. I wish nothing but positive journeys to all looking for a practice to call home for their health care. And if it happens to be Family Medical Center like it is for me, then so it is! As a quick note, before I close this out, they do have two offices right next door to each other. Both have labs, so, if you need lab work, they can perform it in either office. It's pretty convenient. Their main office is larger but their smaller one, is newer. Plus, I wanted a practice closer to home as I was tired of the 30-minute commute. Based on the 4 and 5-star reviews I read, I decided to give this location a try. I was greeted warmly by the staff, and I stated I had both Medicare and Florida Blue supplemental insurance. The receptionist stated Dr. DeVoursney was accepting new patients. I also wanted to try a Doctor of Osteopathic given I'm in very good health and was looking for a physician that practices a holistic approach to healthcare and prevention, rather than treating disease or conditions. I was given an appointment date and various documents to complete to transfer my records to this location. On my second visit, I needed assistance in completing all the paperwork correctly. On this date, I got a 5-star employee named Shaquanda Sanders at the Front Desk. She was very friendly and welcoming and was quite knowledgeable on the paperwork process. She walked me through the questions I had, provided examples of how to fill out certain sections and was a joy to work with. She made me so comfortable and made the process a breeze. If Shaquanda is just one example of the caring and competent staff at this Center, I'm very much looking forward to my first appointment with Dr. DeVoursney in the Fall.
