Gaining 30 lbs in one month and completely unable to get out of bed, let alone care for her,  I went to my doctor. She tested my thyroid and told me everything was fine. When I fought back saying everything was not fine she agreed, condescendingly, to send me to an endocrinologist. I was quickly diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease and placed placed on Synthroid. "You take this pill every morning, and you won't have to worry about this anymore." If I had a nickel  for every time a member of the medical community said that to me, my family and I could on a Disney cruise! For the following five years. I struggled with infertility. Eight miscarriages followed; many injections, many tests, and no answers.  The weight fluctuations continued, as did the out of control rage that could overtake me causing out of body experiences. Why couldn't I calm myself down? I had a doctor laugh me out of his room when I said I had heart palpitations, and suggest I undergo psychiatric treatment for trauma. My feet hurt, my head hurt, my house was a mess, muscle pain and muscle weakness abounded and more than anything I was exhausted. The list goes on and on. In January 2013 I gave birth to a healthy 7 lbs. 1 oz. baby girl. Immediately following her birth, I again crashed. I gained 50 pounds in one month. I produced absolutely no milk, as with my first. And every doctor that I went to see told me to eat less. At this point I was a vegetarian, having just changed over from vegan during my pregnancy. There aren't enough carrots in the world to get me up to the 267 pounds I was. It was a nurse who pulled me aside and told me it wasn't my fault. That it was Hashimoto's disease. I finally took my health into my own hands. I started to research Hashimoto's disease, finding out that it was an autoimmune disease. Imagine that, five years of struggling with an autoimmune disease and not one single doctor declaring it as such to the patient. I fired my healthcare provider and found new insurance and subsequently met and broke up with at least 20 medical professionals. I found that being gluten-free made me feel better, however every medical professional I talked to told me cutting gluten out of my diet was pointless. We have come to find I have celiac's. When my second daughter was a toddler I had the good fortune of coming across Dr. Nagel's name on a list of doctors worth seeing. All of them were further than one hour from my home. The list had been created by patients who had been mistreated just as I had. They had finally located decent doctors, and placed them on a list based on the kinds of tests they would run and the treatment they would give. It was clear at my first appointment that this doctor was different. Dr. Nagel was so warm, and confident. He asked me questions no other Dr. had ever asked. Is your hair normally this curly? How do your feet feel? Can I see your fingernails, please? He ran tests and called me back for a second appointment. He was matter-of-fact and comforting about his findings, "You have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and you need to be put on bio-identical Estrogen and Progesterone. I'm also going to switch you over to Naturethroid, and I will continue to raise or lower your dose based on symptoms as well as tests." He also was fairly certain that I was prediabetic and suffered with vitamin deficiencies. He placed his hand comfortingly on my knee and said, "This isn't your fault. It's not your fault you are obese, it is not your fault that you have no libido, and I can fix it." I couldn't stop the tears from falling. Fix it he did. He placed me on an auto immune Paleo diet, and set me up with a nutritionist. Turns out I was fairly knowledgeable about nutrition but I had no idea how to go about losing this extra weight as a woman with PCOS and Hashimoto's disease. In the words of Dr. Nagel, "This isn't your fault, you could gain weight on a TicTac" I have been seeing Dr. Nagel for four years now and I will let my pictures speak for themselves. He's not just a doctor; he is an angel. Thank you Dr. Nagel for saving my life.

She reviews labs, X-rays, and my MRI to see, exactly, what is involved and what is causing my pain. She is very knowledgable about different modalities of treatment and presents them with understanding and precision. I, recently, went to her office, but on the way, google maps took to the wrong place. I had parked my car and after walking 3 blocks, I realized I was in the wrong place. I was 10 minutes away from my appointment time. Walking is painful for me, (part of the reason I see Dr Davids) so it took me awhile to get back to my car. By that time I was 2 minutes late. I called the office to let them I was close and that I would be there soon. They told me they would see me soon. Through 2 or 3 more unfortunate actions on my part, I found my self looking for the wrong office number and was instructed by a worked to go to the next building. To make a very long story no longer, I called the office at 20 minutes past my scheduled appointment, crying, and Sandra answered the phone. She had me describe to her where I was, asked what I was wearing and said she would come get me. Soon Sandra was walking me to the office. She reassured me that everything was ok and that Dr Davids would see me soon. That was 30 minutes after my appointment time. They had accommodated my lateness by seeing patients that were already there so I could be seen when I finally arrived. She brought me water, and reassured me everything was ok. When Dr Davids came in she was so kind and gentle and she told me it had worked out and that she was glad to see me. We had a wonderful conversation and she was very through in her assessment of my needs. I felt cared for and it was such a positive experience-one I will never forget. Being an RN that has worked in the medical field, for 35 years, I know a good quality healthcare provider whan I experience one. Dr Davids and her staff are the best! We cannot complete this process without you, because you are the process and are supposed to be completing this without me. If you are unaware of the proper steps in this process, you should not be responsible for any patients whose lives depend on you to complete your job. In the realm of healthcare, patient-doctor relationships are built on trust, empathy, and competence. However, there are instances where the bond of trust is broken, leaving patients desperate for the care they need to survive. This highlights my experience encountering gross negligence and incompetence from Dr. Andrea Gonzalez. The failure to provide timely assistance and crucial medical equipment has placed my health at risk. I believe other diabetics should be informed before proceeding with this office. I do not write this review with vengeance, but with genuine concern for anyone considering her as your doctor. In June 2023, I met with Dr. Gonzalez to discuss the renewal of my insulin pump and sensor - Omnipod 5 and Dexcom 6, standard medical devices. From the start, her office mishandled the paperwork, leading to confusion regarding insurance coverage for the devices. Then, her office incorrectly filed the request as a prescription instead of classifying it as durable medical equipment. I was told I would have to pay out-of-pocket each month, which raised doubts, as I have never been charged for these essential devices before (I've had type 1 diabetes for 18 years). I took it upon myself to call United Healthcare and navigate the complexities of the process, as Dr Gonzalez's office stopped after they informed me it would cost out of pocket. Enduring countless hours of phone calls with different departments, I discovered the cause of the delay - her office failed to submit a prior authorization for the medical devices. I requested the office to rectify the situation and resend the necessary documents. The situation escalated further when her office refused to cooperate and became unresponsive. My messages began to go unanswered. When calling the office with the assistance of United Healthcare, I (and the reps) was met with an unhelpful attitude from the receptionists. I have emphasized to Dr. Gonzalez the consequences of not having the insulin pump and sensor. I am facing the real possibility of life-threatening complications due to the mismanagement of her care. I have continued to reach out for help, only to be met with silence and indifference. As a result of Dr. Gonzalez's negligence, I have put in over forty hours of phone calling with United Healthcare, 3-5x per week for 2-4 hours per call from July 5th-present (it is still currently in progress). Multiple United Healthcare reps who have witnessed the gross misconduct from her office have informed me I am not supposed to involved with this process (provider's responsibility) and encouraged me to submit this complaint to the medical board to make sure she and her office takes accountability. In the medical profession, doctors take an oath to prioritize their patients' well-being above all else. I believe that Dr. Gonzalez's lack of actions represent a flagrant disregard for the principles of medical ethics. The appalling treatment I have experienced exemplifies a disheartening breakdown in the the type of relationship Dr. Gonzalez provides her patients. The failure to provide necessary care and assistance during a life-threatening medical situation is unconscionable. Patients with chronic conditions deserve a compassionate and competent healthcare team to help them manage their conditions effectively.
