When you go, and you should, expect to wait in line a bit! BUT, it's well worth it. Coffee is delicious and they make it quickly! Cashiers have always been kind and definitely know how to handle the line. I go several times for coffee when I'm in town. And this visit was the second time I ordered their breakfast biscuit sandwich. I added bacon and avocado and it's delicious! The biscuit is so unique. If you go during the week, breakfast is only served until 11, but all day on the weekends. Ambiance is charming and although there's limited seating inside, it's nice and cool and a lovely Charleston feel! read more

After coming here twice, I was very impressed with the high quality of their desserts. Having been to many bakeries both locally and elsewhere, they stand a notch above most. I recommend the pecan tahini sandwich (dessert), sweet tea + apricot oatmeal cookie, & sumac + cherry + honey goat cheese pie bar. The bakery is located in a historic building on Queen Street (near the intersection with Meeting Street). read more

Seemingly part of the same business enterprise as the Harbinger cafe, this one is much more downtown and touristy. It is a nice looking place, but awfully cramped, and the line did not move efficiently at all when I stopped in. While there was some overlap in menu with Harbinger, I was a bit baffled that there weren't as many choices for food. They had some decent looking salad, but it wasn't clear you could get it without ordering a huge sampler bowl of everything or a (non-vegetarian) sandwich. The cookie sandwich I ended up getting to go from their pastry spread was good, but overpriced by any standard; I mean $8 for that little thing? Half the price wouldn't have been too low. I was disappointed in relative terms, and will likely stick with their other outlet. read more

This place became my instant favorite spot as soon as I walked in. The decor is impressive and super detailed oriented. There is a ton of seating outdoors as well as an indoor sitting area which feels like a patio with the large windows open. You order food at the counter by the door and they bring it to your table when it is ready, which makes things very easy and orderly. We went during the morning hours and ordered the breakfast egg sandwich, mine was with the regular biscuit which was DELICIOUS , my companion ordered the gluten free version which was not a biscuit but he was thrilled to be able to have an option. The salad that came with the sandwich is really simple but great with a very special flavorful dressing. I will definitely come back for more and recommend it to everyone! read more

Loved our time at Harken! There was about a 10-15 minute wait to order but it flew by. It was very crowded and took a while to get our food, but we were very happy once it came! The biscuit sandwich checked all of my boxes and the biscuit was super soft. The yogurt was an amazing surprise - I ordered it on a whim and loved it. The sweet potato on it was 10/10! read more

I picked this place looking for a coffee but I was confronted with a petite, beautiful buffet bowl option right in front of me that included a chipotle pasta salad, fruit, beans, quinoa, focaccia, and hummus. You could have as many or few of those options in one bowl for $12 so I gave it a shot and it was the best thing I've eaten during my stay. I sat in a/c bliss in a quaint historic space marveling at how lucky I was to stumble across this little piece of perfection. Btw, the hummus was so good I just ate it up with my spoon! read more

Harken cafe is hands down the most BEAUTIFUL, curated coffee shop I've ever ventured into. I will dream of this space for a long time. I so wish I had a book to tuck myself into a corner with some tea and disappear for hours. The staff warmly greeted us and helped us make choices with their recommendations. The matcha shortbread was divine - not too sweet, touch of salty. My partner had the biggest muffin I've ever seen. Moist and delicious. Harken is adorable! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Surprising amount of seating for such a small space. Coffee? Excellent. Got the Maple latte which was not too sweet. Food? Delicious!! What a breath of fresh air in the middle of an expensive and in some cases pretentious dining district. We initially went in just for coffee, but wound up filling ourselves with surprisingly good homemade lentil and green bean and hummus sides, dished at an enormous size for the price point (Whole Foods, per pound, charges more for the salads, which are fresher and better). Great vibe. So glad they're evidently succeeding in "old Charleston." read more

Very cute place and the items seem fresh but the line is sooo slow bc more staff is prepping during service hours than serving. It took me 10 minutes to make it through a 4 person line. The woman at the register was also making items. I got one 7-layer bar which cost an astounding $7 (pun? Idk) and wasn't really a 7-layer bar. read more

Baked goods are well done and fairly interesting - many seem to have the same biscuit base, so that discourages sampling. And if you're a breakfast fan, they stop serving at 11. In short- nice space, but loud and overly crowded. Nice people, elegant food, but a lot sells out early. Fine for to go, but not a relaxing space to be in. Usually a queue, but moves fairly quickly. First come first serve seating, with a few outdoor tables on the side. read more

Such a great stop when you're out exploring King Street-- and a stop that doesn't require you to wait over an hour to be seated or get good! My husband and I ordered the avocado toast and biscuit breakfast sandwich. Both had a unique Harken Cafe Spin and were very good! We finished our meal by splitting a bakery treat that resembled an Oatmeal Cream Pie, and it was also very good! The one draw back is that there isn't much seating. You order at the counter, and then try to scoop up seating from anyone who might be leaving. I might suggest ordering your food to go just in case you can't get a table. read more

My fiance and I ordered 2 iced lattes plain and they were fantastic. The coffee was super smooth. We also ordered a few pastries to try. The Great Dane, Pump it up, and the Tea Time cookie. The most fantastic, charming, vintage cafe. The moment I walked in I was in awe!! Every corner has a story, every corner is full of history and beauty. The decor is impeccable. From the vintage dried flowers on the wall from 1898 to the original fire place it's so impressive how they preserved all these beauties. The very friendly worker suggested I order the quiche, which of course I got. I ordered a vanilla iced latte and as I was ready to pay I saw this very beautiful loaf behind the glass decorated with rose petals. It was the turmeric apricot pumpkin seed bread and I ordered that as well. I picked a table and admired the ambiance and the wonderful music. Not long after my coffee and the food came out. The coffee was made to perfection. Not too sweet, just right. The quiche was so delicious. The rosemary on top was a perfect touch. The turmeric apricot loaf was awesome! The bits and pieces of apricot and the pumpkin seeds in there were the perfect touch. It was absolutely phenomenal. I would highly recommend this place if you're in Charleston and want to grab delicious coffee or brunch. read more

Loved this little cafe in the French quarter. Sampled their egg sandwich on their ricotta scone - sooo good. A bit too much scone (if that's even possible) to egg ratio but that scone was awesome. We also ordered their avo crumb cake- super tasty. The shop is adorable and I wanted to try all their pastries. Will have to return! read more

I dined here 3 times during my stay in Charleston but my first visit was not a positive one. I'm a tourist and when I came I paid at the register, tipped in advance of service, and was given a number to put on my table. The table has a sign that says you need to bus it yourself. When my food was brought to me, I had no silverware, napkins or water. The employee didn't bother to mention to me where I can get those things. So I'm sitting here thinking, why why is there a tip line at the register when there is no service? Lots of tourists come here and won't know the "rules". I got the breakfast egg sandwich on a biscuit which is so filling, I was full for hours! Could definitely be split between two people. For lunch I got their GG bowl which was also good. They have sparkling water on tap. I also enjoyed their matcha cookie. The table had a large ant on it, I've only seen them that big in disney movies. The ambience was spectacular, it felt cozy and natural with all the brick and warm wood tones. The food and coffee was equally as great and as visually appealing as it was delicious. The service was also great and everyone was very friendly. 10/10 recommend to anyone visiting. They do have a nice little sign that says please do not use laptops, we have limited seating. Sometimes I truly believe that places find you instead of the other way around. On our way to the spa on an overcast day in Charleston, we walked down Queen Street and were suddenly hit with a wall of delicious smells. That's how this cafe found us. We had already had breakfast so we weren't going to stop and check the cafe out on the way over, but I made a mental note that I was definitely not going to miss this cafe on the way back. The smells lingering down the street tempted me to reconsider turning around and being late for our spa treatment, but I was able to get ahold of myself and be on time. That did not stop me however from thinking throughout my spa treatment about what lovely items I was going to encounter when I returned to the cafe. Once inside, my imagination was met with reality. The interior of the cafe is quirky and eccentric, with beautiful decor and an ambiance that is very inviting. Behind the glass on the counter were towers of delicious looking baked goods including cookies, cakes, sandwiches and more. On our first visit, I ordered a slice of the avocado crumb cake, which just sounded like something wonderful, as well as a piece of the fig and sesame cream cake. I have to say, I haven't had that many sweet avocado desserts other than an avocado ice cream and an avocado custard, but this avocado cake was probably the best sweet avocado item I've ever had. The fig and sesame cake was a little crunchier than I was hoping for, but had a great flavor. On our return visit, we had breakfast, coffees, and took some pastries to go. Hubby had a coffee ($3), I had a tea latte ($4.25), we got another piece of the avocado cake, I had a piece of the lemon poppy seed cake, and hubby ordered one of their egg frittata breakfast sandwiches. Both of us thought our drinks were delicious, but not as delicious as their baked goods which continued to impress me. The best thing however was the egg frittata sandwich, slathered in a delicious sauce with cheese galore. The prices seemed very reasonable for the high quality and delicious taste of their items, and their selection was pretty extensive, with interesting ingredients and ingenious pairings. I would have loved to have found this place earlier in our trip. I would have tried them for lunch because their breakfast sandwiches told me that their lunch sandwiches were probably amazing. I will definitely be putting this on my list of places to return to on my next trip to Charleston. read more

This is an absolute do not miss stop. Walking by the place is giving up the opportunity to taste some pastries worth your weight in gold The coffees great and when I saw they had sparking water on tap (fa free!) I got a little hype, but the real stars here are the pastries. I see no way I will feel complete until I go back to try every single one of those babies. If you hear one thing, hear this: get the kouign amann. What's that? Oh it's just everything that's right in the world baked into a little pastry. It's flaky and crispy on the outside and gooey in the inside. I've spent the greater part of the last 4 hours thinking about it. And the scone, well that was to die for as well. Really loved this cafe! Came here early on a Sunday (around 8am) and it was already busy so definitely come early if you want to find a table. We got the Brie & jam biscuit and cheddar & chive scone. Both were fantastic, some of the best pastries I've had. Everything else looked so good as well. I also got a small cappuccino which was done perfectly. Very cute atmosphere and felt very cozy and welcoming. Great location as well, right in the French Quarters. If I lived closer I'd be coming here regularly!! read more

The amount of flavors the biscuit contained was heavenly. It was savory & sweet. The latte was perfectly sweet and was kept hot for 30+ minutes because of the mug they give you. In fact the Brussels sprouts were some of the bests I've tried (I like them so I order then every chance I get!). Cortado was excellent, too. This place is so cute! The atmosphere inside is so welcoming and makes you feel good. A good amount of outdoor seating as well. There was a line but it didn't take too long to get through. I got the special latte which was a black sesame latte with sweeten condensed milk and genuinely one of the best lattes I've ever had. My girlfriend even got one of their shirts because it was so cool! All of the baked goods looked so good and everyone in line was so excited to get their favorite one as they all talked about them multiple times in line. I got the St. Philip pita, which was incredible and almost tasted like a halal cart chicken sandwich in the best way. It was so filling and so good. It came with a really tasty side salad. My fiance got the BLT which was just as great. I can see this being a really ideal space to bring my laptop and get some work done if I lived in the area. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for a great, casual space for breakfast, lunch or coffees.

We asked for a sauce. I asked them what sauces they had. They gave us a couple of options. I picked two sauces, but unbeknownst to me, those sauces were dips, and the dips were $3 each. The young lady did not tell us that, unfortunately. One of the sauces was a garlic sauce, and the other thing was the restaurant's rendition of ranch. Both were rather bland. I'd have to give them a 2 out of 5. They weren't nasty, but they lacked flavor. My wife ordered this shishuka, which would be the eggs, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. She gave it a four out of five. I tasted it. The eggs were bland to me. I would give it a three out of five based on the two forkfuls that I had, but the waitstaff was amazing. I definitely want to go back to try their brunch and to try that other pizza without the extra sauces.
