Although I didn't necessarily agree with all of the choices (a few of the buildings in Frankfurt were included, inevitably), the detail that went into making them is incredible. On the day I visited, the ground floor had an exhibition about permeable architecture that blew my mind. It featured scale models, plans and photographs of buildings in Singapore and Asia, where the idea is to have them festooned with trees, shrubbery and artificial lakes, as though nature had reclaimed the buildings for themselves. It was all a bit too much Planet of the Apes for my liking.

In fact they will give you a discount if you turn up an hour before it closes. The main collection is on the second floor, and namely contains a collection of cartoons. While the cartoons can be appreciated by non-German speakers, a lot of them (actually all of them) are in German. They also have temporary exhibitions which usually are related to the theme of the muesum (namely that they are either caricatures or cartoons). It is certainly something to check out if you are looking for something a little different.

Loved this museum...if you like history and technology. You don't have to be a geek…read more It's a walk through time staring from earliest forms of communications. It's mostly a German view of progress with little attention to British, American and other contributions. Part of what makes this interesting. For English speakers only, you will need the audio with a iPod device. All exhibits are in German...my only gripe. The audio quality is very good, and each track is about 2 mins long. And kinda follows the layout of the museum. Helpful staff. This would be 5 Stars if the exhibits were also in English. I'd estimate that the English audio covers only 1/4 to 1/3 of the exhibits in German. One fascinating fact: Hitler required every family to have a radio to listen to his propaganda broadcasts. Also learned that the Germans routinely stole telecom patents much like the China of today. A bargain at 4.5 Euros including audio headset. TIP: the exhibit portion will have no interest to small children.

A very interesting structure and it houses very interesting art. Much of the "contemporary" art…read moregoes right past me but I found several pieces here in the MMK1 that I fully enjoyed looking at and spending time with. Some of them, not as much. But that's art, right? Karl Otto Götz's "Bild vom 15.12.1952" was interesting and the Armand Pierre Fernandez "White Orchid / Gesprengter Sportwagen" on the wall certainly was different. And some artists that I had seen before including Jasper Johns' "Targets" and the Warhol "Dance Diagram" were very nice. A great opportunity to see art.

I was so entranced with the Athens exhibition that I didn't actually take an opportunity to look at…read morethe permanent collection. Actually, come to think of it I didn't even know where I could find the permanent collection. Holwever, after looking over the photos that I took I suddenly remembers that I did see it, it was just that the Athens exhibition caught my entire attention. The permanent collection is actually quite small, but pretty impressive nonetheless. Anyway, this museum is situated in an old house on the south bank of the Mainz, and the gardens are gorgeous. The exhibition that I saw was also pretty cool as well.

Ultimately not the sculpture I love, no modern works but I guess that's not what it's about here, I'm sure aficionados of the periods covered will enjoy it a lot
