Not a bad school, this rather historic large school building has been a school premises for well…read moreover a century now. The original 'Boys' and 'Girls' separate entrance signs can still be seen carved into the stonework to this day. The school has been through several periods of general improvement and is a generic all-fath primary school catering for children from reception class to Year Four. With good playground areas both at the front and rear, secure premises and large Victorian classrooms, the school now boasts a school-meals facility (only renewed after many years). For a handy local school with a solid history and hard-working and caring staff it's a good choice. My own offspirng went here for a few years and progressed well.

Teachers seem friendly but only have limited contact as son is yr1 and just started. Good after-school activity clubs run by teachers and a general after-school club run on-site by the Scott centre. School is working towards their first Ofsted so fingers crossed its a good one. As with most, there are improvements (my son can either come home with no reading book or 2! Plus doesn't seem to have any official homework which in yr1 I'd expect some.even just 10mins a night or every other night?!) Overall, my son enjoys school and they seem well looked after.

It's not so much for the Catholic education as for the quality of care and education that I like this school. Originally (back in the late 60's) a fee-paying private catholic Boarding and Day School, it was run by the nuns of St Catherine's Convent (now long since dispersed and the grand old Convent Building turned into flats and offices). Nowadays the original 'extra' parts to the school - a few mobiles and a gym hall - have been refurbished and expanded almost beyond recognition. The entire school building is now large, spacious, well designed, modern and versatile. It still has it's own small playground area, and inside retains it's friendly and caring atmosphere.

Best school for simply miles around!…read more Okay, so I'm biased as I went there as a child and now send my own juniors there. But St Augustines really is a fine example of everything a school should be. Although it is designated a 'Catholic' school there's little to complain about on the religious front as RE lessons are sensible, humanitarian and practical. The school has a strong moral and ethical code and a zero-tolerance for bullying. The teachers are on the ball, really care, and know their pupils well. The standard of learning is extremely high. The colledge is designated both as a specialist IT and Sports college, to add to it's strongly-rooted reputation as a quality all-round educational facility. The original 1960's building still acts as a main block and entrance building, but over the last twenty years the place has changed incredibly, as the rear of the school now holds brand new didcated buildings for sixth form, PE, and other studies. There are music rooms, laboratories and still it's own playing fields. Quality education, caring ethos, strong moral guidance. Fabulous.
