The food was just mediocre across the board, and as someone from the South, I was honestly shocked they didn't even offer southern greens. That alone felt almost criminal to me. When I received my order there was no bread , I asked the staff what happened and they responded "we have no bread ready atm " I waited a few minutes and a staff came out and I only received half a loaf of French bread for each gumbo pot . I asked if I could get at least 2 loafs for this order . Fast forward, upon arriving home I realize that there is no rice for my gumbo pots in the bag and the gumbo had missing components, no chicken , no shrimp , was only broth and a few sausages. Came here with a friend after quite an excursion near the USC area and museum area. As a result of a good deal of walking around and taking in numerous sites and exhibitions, we worked up a pretty good appetite. We decided to split the seafood platter with more than enough left for a third person. We both opted for small gumbos which were sizeable and delicious as well. CSA (customer service All Star) Elijah-pictured, took care of us. Well not as flamboyant as some servers, his calm, steady, and pleasant demeanor was a welcome change-up to what had already been a somewhat hectic day filled with museum going s trotting back and forth, and let's face it, dealing with the public at large at the IMAX and other locations down the street. I liked it. Inside is simple and a bit dark but plenty of tables. The bar section has some TVs to watch a game. Came in for the Dine LA meal. It was good! The fried oysters and fish were delicious. I liked the lighter, thinner batter on the fish. I liked the red beans and jambalaya too. The beignets were just ok though. They also have a decent happy hour in the bar section from 3-6. If you like Creole and Cajun food, this is the place for you! I came here the week after Thanksgiving for an extended birthday dinner. It was definitely the right choice! My group chose Jambalaya, Shrimp Po'Boy, Salmon, and Clam Chowder (it wasn't on the menu, it might have been the soup of the day). Nicole was our sever and she was very nice and friendly, our table was kind of "tight" with all the food and drinks we ordered, she quickly checked and was able to push another table together. The restaurant is small, I was surprise we could grab two tables, it really made a difference. Nichole brought warm bread for us to share while we waited for our entrees. My Cajun Salmon came with two sides, I tried the Red Beans n Rice and Mac n Cheese. The portions were good, I had leftovers for lunch the next day. ' Just as we were about to leave, she asked us to wait, I wasn't sure why. A plate of warm beignets were given to us for no extra charge, it was a birthday treat from the restaurant. In Southern California, these kinds of restaurants are hard to come by. They're honestly just not very common. I actually don't think I've been to one that has an authentic feel before. Either way. This one actually has a parking lot. That's a plus. But it was full. However they do valet. We went on a Thursday, before 5PM. THIS PLACE WAS PACKED. The bar was absolutely full, as was every seat in the bar area of the restaurant (where we were seated). The bread is so good. It's probably more butter than bread, but that's fine because it's so soft I'd sleep on it in place of my pillow. Speaking of sleep, I actually thought I may have gone to sleep because the wait between any interaction may have been a day/night cycle. I'm not blaming the wait staff. By wait staff I mean the one guy. He was bartender (for a full bar) and waiter (for the full dining area). BY HIMSELF. Dude did a bang up job for the decline was dealt. Super nice and got stuff out as quick as he could, keeping in mind the workload. The iced tea is good as hell. It's not fountain stuff either. It's actual tea that's made, iced and poured. But the food. It was really good. I got catfish. Usually when I've had catfish it's been a whole filet, but you get about 6-8 pieces. They're large pieces. If it were dogfish this would have been the equivalent of a Rottweiler. Maybe this catfish was Garfield. For sides: mashed potato, and deep fried potato (French fries for the uninitiated). That gravy was legit. The real reason I got the mashed Tayto was for the gravy dipping Wife ordered shrimp and crawfish etoufee. I don't actually know what etoufee means, so I can't comment on how accurate it is. Kind of like a bolognese but with crawfish and shrimp instead of pork and beef. Real good. Given my love for all things NOLA, Harold & Belle's has been on my radar for quite some time. This family-owned eatery was established in 1969 and has been serving the community ever since, albeit under new ownership. Finally, the perfect opportunity arrived! On our way home from SoFi after seeing the Saints play the Rams, Mom & I wanted a bite to eat and this was the perfect spot to keep the Crescent City vibes rolling. I've been hearing about Harold & Belle's since I was a little kid my mom used to go all the time but I didn't finally try it myself until my 40s. And honestly, it lived up to the hype. The food is absolutely amazing. It's a small, long-standing spot with a lot of history, and you can taste that in the food. The charbroiled oysters are to die for my first time having them, they were packed with flavor and seasoning. The second time, they were still really good, just not quite as flavorful as that first experience. The red snapper plate w/ shrimp is so good, and the mac and cheese surprised me because I'm not even a big mac and cheese person, but I actually really enjoyed it. Even the Caesar salad stands out super fresh and flavorful. Another thing I love is that the food always comes out hot and fresh, which makes a big difference. Service is impressive too. Even when it's crowded (and it usually is), they're attentive and get to you pretty quickly, which I appreciate. The only downside is parking it's honestly kind of a hassle. It's either valet or street parking, and most of the time you'll end up parking a bit far and walking. Not the best, but manageable. Came to Harold & Belles for dinner with a friend on a Saturday evening. We had a table in the bar area. The food was amazing, we had charbroiled oysters, gumbo, fried catfish with a side of spinach and a side of mac-n-cheese. Everything we ate was great and we would want to go back again for dinner. We had 5 different people who passed by, we didn't have any dedicated person who was checking on us so we had to just catch whoever was walking past to ask for water refills, more of the delicious French bread to eat with our oysters, condiments to go with our food like hot sauce and napkins. It was a challenge and each person seemed annoyed that we were asking for things. In particular the server with red curly hair would just walk past and refused to even stop and look at us as we asked for water or napkins. I don't know who was supposed to help us, but we were close to just getting up to help ourselves. Also, there was a mistake made. Before our food came out someone accidentally sat another persons order of snapper and fries on our table. We thought it was our catfish and started eating. Dark roux provides a caramelized and nutty flavor base. The sassafras powder has an almost citrusy taste. This gumbo contains generous amounts of meat and seafood. The shrimp is tender. She patiently explained the menu to us when we first sat down and then disappeared (it wasn't busy at the time)! Regulars coming in received quick service and with a smile. We weren't given either. Thanks for ruining our Father's Day celebration. I used to enjoy this restaurant, but today (Juneteenth) was by far the worst experience I've ever had here... My family and I arrived shortly after 2:15 p.m. for a late lunch. We were told there would be about a 20-minute wait, so we grabbed cocktails and waited patiently. Although it took a bit longer than expected, we were finally seated around 2:50 p.m. After being seated, we waited approximately 10 minutes before our server greeted us. He told us he would be right back to take our order, but then disappeared. Fifteen minutes later, he still had not returned. It wasn't until I asked a manager whether someone was going to take our order that he finally came back and took it at 3:15p.m. We tried to make the best of the situation. While waiting for our food, we enjoyed conversation and family time. At approximately 3:40 p.m., I checked in with a woman who appeared to be a manager. She told us, "Your food should be coming out shortly. You're the fourth ticket up there." Unfortunately, "shortly" turned into another 20 minutes of waiting. During that time, we watched multiple tables that were seated after us--including a large party--receive portions of their meals while we still had nothing. At 4:00 p.m., after nearly an hour and ten minutes of waiting from the time we were seated and almost two hours after arriving, we left without ever receiving our food. What was most disappointing wasn't just the excessive wait. It was the complete lack of urgency and concern from management each time we checked in. No meaningful explanation, only a cursory apology and no effort to make the situation right. We drive a considerable distance to support this well-known establishment, and today we left hungry, frustrated, and deeply disappointed. We are planning to come back for the DJ on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays starting at 7 PM or wine Wednesdays. (Taco Tuesday too?! We got seated within five minutes and we got to check out the bar which had sports playing on the TVs. A cool place to come check out a game. Let's get into his food: Red snapper dinner ($35) for 6 pieces of red snapper, a side and salad or soup. I got the salad with Greek goddess dressing and my side was the mac and cheese. The red snapper was fried and crisped to perfection and I absolutely love the side salad. It was a big salad and you can tell everything in the salad was picked fresh. Blackened pork chop dinner ($35) comes with a side and a salad or soup. We tried the clam chowder and the side was red beans rice. I could've ate two bowls of their red beans and rice because it was absolutely delicious and so flavorful! Also the clam chowder it was very homey and hearty. I love the flavor there and the texture was on point. $23- Fried crab cakes I absolutely love crabcakes. It was my first time having fried crabcakes. I didn't know what to expect, but I actually really liked it, sort of like a salmon croquette but better! They were soooo juicy. I wish I had more! And this was only $23 so for high-quality premium seafood like this you can't get any deals anywhere else like it but at Harold's. $19- Fried shrimp These were some huge jumbo fried shrimp. With a great cocktail sauce on the side and a tartar sauce. It had a slight crunch with a light batter. Nothing that they serve you here is greasy, that's what I love about the food. $38- Charbroiled oysters (a dozen) They brought out the charbroiled oysters for us with garlic, and it came in a big platter with all the juices. It was so flavorful, and I love the thickness of the sauce. The oysters are huge oysters and not the skimpy ones like at other restaurants. The fact that we got a dozen for only $38 is a steal of a deal. We grubbed on this and really filled up. Bread basket- buttered and toasted. A good texture at a medium soft level. I had 2 and could've ate the entire basket. My friend took some home. Louisiana whiskey bread pudding- $8-9 They give you a very big portion of this. I expected it to be in a cup, but I actually liked how it was put on a plate with the sauce at the bottom and powdered sugar on top. Had a great bite to it and it wasn't too sweet. Peach cobbler and vanilla ice cream- $8-9 The peach cobbler was so delicious and they give you a big portion in this rectangular saucer. They sprinkled powdered sugar on top and the crust wasn't too hard, but not too soft either. I also liked how the peaches were not too sweet, but a great balance. I got vanilla ice cream on the side as well for $4, and it was just the perfect pairing to my dessert. I left so full! Specialty drinks: $18 Hurricane - delicious if you like sweet drinks. I got this as a mocktail and I love the fresh cherries they put into it. I love the glass they put it in. It's festive $20 Sidecar - my friend got this and said it was very good. A perfect ratio of alcohol to juice. They also do a side sugar rim, such cute presentation. It also comes in a very elegant glass. They have valet and Street parking here. You sashay past a wall full of historical photos and newspaper clippings boasting 3 generations of ownership to explore the rest of the dining area. The food portions guarantee you'll have leftovers. The snapper was fried perfectly and had a little heat on the end. The pork chop was also seasoned well and piled high with sautéed onions. I enjoyed the red beans and rice and my girlfriend was raving about her salad with green goddess dressing. The macaroni and cheese needed some salt or flavor so I probably wouldn't order that again. But I did enjoy the clam chowder, super creamy and well seasoned. The KING of everything we tried though was the Oysters. They were so big and juicy, dripping with garlic butter and fresh lemon. I could come back for those alone. Now onto dessert -- the peach cobbler was my favorite of what we tried, especially with the ice cream. The customer service was very underwhelming. After taking our initial order, our server barely checked in. She only returned briefly to ask how the food was. Shortly after, she informed us she was going on break and that another server would take over. That never happened. For about 15-30 minutes, we had no server at all, no one came to introduce themselves, refill water, or check on us. We didn't see another server until our original waitress returned from her break. There was no apology or acknowledgment of the gap in service, which I found pretty absurd. Food * Oysters: These were excellent and lived up to the hype. Fresh, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the meal. * Bread: Very good, especially paired with the oysters. * Gumbo: Extremely soupy with an odd flavor. I ended up sending it back. * Catfish: I ordered this after returning the gumbo. The flavor was decent, but before I could continue eating, I noticed a bug on my plate. I immediately let staff know. To their credit, the plate was removed and I was offered a replacement. However, at that point, my appetite was gone, so I declined. The catfish was comped. * Caesar Salad: Solid and enjoyable. Dessert We ordered peach cobbler and bread pudding. * I'm not usually a peach cobbler person, but I actually preferred it over the bread pudding. * The bread pudding came with a whiskey sauce. My review..My..Opinion..IJS...Had a birthday lunch for (6) at the famous H&Belle's.. It's been over 25 years since I've been here. A lot of changes inside, but!!!!!Omgoodness the food was delicious, amazing, tastie.. Everything was seasoned like down south season...Mac was cheesy and fresh, chicken fried just right and delicious. The French fries were amazing, maybe some special secret sauce.....Red Beans were extra extra delicious. It was worth my 2hr drive. Service was great Thanks Stephanie l.... Harold & Belle's - Oysters - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Harold & Belle's has been around since the 1960s, and you can definitely feel the age when you walk in. The décor and overall ambience leave a lot to be desired -- it feels dated and could use a refresh, especially for a restaurant with such a long history and strong reputation. As for the food, it wasn't terrible by any means, but it also wasn't close to authentic New Orleans flavor. I've spent a lot of time in New Orleans, and unfortunately this meal was a couple solid steps below what you'd expect from true Creole cooking. I had the Red Beans & Rice ($25), which I actually thought was pretty good. The Jambalaya ($29) came in a very generous portion, but it really lacked that deep, rich New Orleans flavor I was hoping for. We also tried two Large Gumbos ($25 each) and a Diet Coke ($4). With tax, the total came to $91.07, which felt a bit high considering the overall experience. I was really hoping to find a local spot that could come close to the flavors of New Orleans, but based on this visit, it looks like I'll still need to head back to Louisiana when I want the real thing. read more

Had a group lunch at Harold & Belle's after an event at the Clark Memorial Library nearby. Service was efficient and friendly, and our party of four were seated with no wait. It was super hard for me to make a decision, but I ended up getting fried catfish with sides of jambalaya and red beans (the homestyle combination). Prices are steep, but like everyone else has said, you'll have enough for two meals. The jambalaya and beans were flavorful and tasty, but the catfish was definitely the star...and I'm not even into catfish like that (always thought it had a more pronounced, minerally, fishy taste). It was perfectly battered (I think it was dredged in cornmeal) without being batter-heavy, and was still crunchy when I ate my leftovers for dinner. Dine in. Well, I really want to be honest here. I order SALMON - spinach with blue cheese. To my surprise... Even with green goodness salad... The dish is salty. So, I have to fish out all the blue cheese crumbles ( maybe I should have ask to put less) The Salmon is cook good. The presentation is also good. The pecans ( sweet ) are good . Haven't been here in approx 20 years, lovely upgrades. Been wanting to bring my boyfriend and finally made it out on a Saturday, took a risk, no reservations and walked in a few minutes after 4 pm. We only waited around 5+ or so, so that was great! We were sat at the bar area and OMG they had the AC on blast, I was freezing and had a light coat, my toes froze, no joke. Although we had a lovely server/bartender, bcs our food took so loooooong we were left in the cold literally, wasn't enjoyable. We ordered a catfish dinner with caesar side salad and fries. Fries are very well seasoned, I was disappointed in the cat fish size, it came with 10 pieces and glad we ordered the dinner size. Some of the cat fish pieces were as big as some of the fries... I also had a large caesar salad, I liked the taste and how chopped up it was. Also got crab cakes, they were good. My salad and crab cakes came out first and my bf food came later, much later. I appreciate that the staff noticed how delayed the food was. Not only apologized, they immediately rectified it, for this reason, I will certainly be back and I won't wait 20 years. read more
