Bottom Line: A nicely restored, no frills train station from 1894. I love trains, history, architecture and Americana so I should have fallen head over heels in love with this train station but there were some drawbacks which I'll cover at the end. In addition to being part of Harpers Ferry National Historic Park this historic train station is an actively used train station abbreviated as HFY. The Amtrak Capitol Limited (Washington, DC to Chicago) uses the station as does the Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) Brunswick line. From what I can tell, this train station gets the most visitors from those visiting the surrounding area and searching for a restroom. There otherwise are not any amenities at this station. The tracks that serve the station are part of the historic Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) railroad. Now days Amtrak comes through here about twice a day and MARC comes through several times a day on weekdays. I suspect freight trains, like BNSF, are a more common sight along the siding. What I really like about this train station is the lovely restoration job. How cool that this 125+ year old train station is still in service? There are also some neat historic photographs inside. The train station has a decent sized parking lot for a small town. Parking fees are payable to the National Park service and its $20 to park for the day. The America the Beautiful park pass can be used to park too. What I didn't love about this train station is that the fire alarm was going off all day the day I was there. Also, the tunnel to access the other side of the tracks was full of trash and who knows what. I tried to not look.

This old train station looks amazing. It feels like you're living in that era when you visit the station, especially when you see the train path under the mountain tunnel. It's like in a movie setup but it's real. A lot of history in this town and at this station. I tried going into the waiting room to find out more about it but it was locked. No humans allowed in there. So, we enjoyed the exterior view of this old train station. This area of the station is now a parking lot for tourists. Beautiful station!

I went there on a sunny day in spring. Everything around here looked fantastic with sunshine. Many people were waiting for a train to take good pictures. The building is old but pretty clean and cute with salmon pink and white paints. There are historical articles on the wall. Parking: Free on Sunday. Restroom: Clean. Location: Good. Really close to great cafes and ice-cream shops.
