Awesome brewery in the Seaport District of Boston. I've tried Harpoon beer in South Carolina so I decided to go to the brewery when I was in Boston and the visit did not disappoint! I started off with a flight and picking only 4 beers was a difficult decision. They provide a wide variety of different types of beer for any type of beer lover. After my flight, I ordered a pint of the classic Harpoon IPA. All 5 beers that I tried tasted excellent. They have a food menu with pretzels, pizza, and salads. Came for the check-ins and the views. This was an incredibly difficult to find spot for us as tourists. There were no clear signs and no real walking path (there's parking) and even the employee entrances were easier to find than the brewery's. Having said that, the atmosphere was comfortable and warm. They had games and a nice view. There was merch (the beer mitt was interesting!) We got hungry and ordered a pretzel, but I wouldn't really call this a "dinner" spot. Definitely more of a drinks + snack spot with their limited menu of pretzels and pizzas. Service was low key and quiet. We were left to play cards and didn't feel rushed to order or leave. The vibe was excellent here! We were so happy and content and stayed for hours! Drank, played games, ordered lunch- it was great! The blueberry wheat is REALLY GOOD! The pretzel with the garlic butter and bacon ranch...EXQUISITE The pizza could have been great!!! Except the whole underside of my pizza was burnt to a crisp and they still served it, super bummer! All I tasted with every bite was charred pizza dough, my boyfriends pizza was perfectly cooked on the bottom so I knew that mine was just poorly made or checked over. The combined total is four stars. The beer was really really good. Beer is totally five stars. Loved the atmosphere, loud, but fun. There were a group playing games and having a great time. My only complaint was the pizza. It was soooooo greasy and heavy because it had waaaaaay too much cheese. I should have had them make a new one, but I'd never been here before and just wanted to have my pizza and beer. At 3:00am I sure wished I would have returned the pizza. This pizza did a number on my stomach big time. Why do they have to have sooooo much cheese?!?!? It was ridiculous how much was on there. Nobody wants that much cheese on their pizza. read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Large brewery with a nice tasting room and good beers. The hubby and I were walking by and thought it looked like a good place to wet our whistles. The tasting room was huge, with mostly long table and bench seating and some bar seating. We were just looking for drinks, but we did see they had pizzas and pretzels. We decided to split a flight of easy drinking Beers: Day drifter IPA, Rec League hazy IPA, Riverside lager, and Talus hazy IPA. I travel to Boston early, and as long as I have time, I try to make Harpoon my last stop on my way to the airport to head home. Usually I visit on a weekday. This was my first weekend visit. I love the Maine Blueberry beer, which is definitely harder to get in the DC area. The beers on tap rotate fairly often, and Harpoon usually maintains a balanced variety (not all IPAs!). The food/snacks are good - wouldn't say great. Soft pretzel and wings are a solid choice. Pizza is underwhelming, but maybe I've been spoiled when it comes to pizza. The employees are always a highlight here. The weekend was particularly busy, so service was slow, but due to understanding IMO. My interactions with the staff had always been great. I even did the brewery tour, which was among the best I've been on (definitely recommend if you have the time). Bonus! The gift shop here is decently priced compared to most brewery gift shops AND they own have good items on sale. I get something for myself, the family, or friends nearly every visit. Got a $50 hoodie on sale for $30 this time. Harpoon is a solid choice for any Boston visit, and is very conveniently located to hit up on your way to Logan Airport. read more

I recently returned to the Harpoon Brewery, but had a different experience on this trip. After our last visit, we had really been looking forward to enjoying their fun outdoor beer garden, but it was completely empty when we arrived. So, instead, we went into the tap room where the crowd was. The air conditioning did feel nice, and they offered board games and a fun vibe inside as well. They even had a store with branded merchandise, though the prices were on the higher side. We were asked to order and pay at the large bar, but the food was delivered to the long table of our choice. I did a sample flight and tried the following beers: 1.) Harpoon Black IPA - looked like a dark stout, but tasted more like a rich IPA. It was great! 2.) Boston Irish Stout - not a fan...Was watery and tasted like burnt coffee 3.) Raspberry Lime Sour - loved it! Lots of raspberry flavor and less lime flavor, though. Just sour enough. 4.) Rainbows are Real - great hazy! Smooth and versatile with light hops After the flight, I did a similarly-sized small pour of the Harpoon Mountain Ale, which I found very malty and similar to a porter. It was just ok. We also ordered some of their handmade, Salted Pretzels (also have sweet, cinnamon ones). Their twisted knots were super doughy and more like a bagel, but I am not complaining about that! They were delicious! We were also able to pick two out of their four sauces for each pretzel. The options were: ale mustard, IPA cheese, bacon ranch, and garlic parmesan butter. Though we ordered all four, I only sampled the last two listed. The bacon ranch was creamy, salty, and meaty, while the garlic parmesan butter was rich and decadent. I was in Boaton visiting some friends recently and asked around for a good brewery to check out. A few people recommended Harpoon to me as they had a great beer section, a simple good menu and weekly trivia. First, the easy part. The food was not good. We were a party of 11, three ordered the pastrami sandwich and it was as tough as cardboard. It was so bad that one of the people didn't even attempt to finish it. Pizza tasted like a frozen pizza. The hotdog that was supposed to have "fried potato strips" was just topped with potato sticks straight out of a snack can. The salad with dill had zero dill in it. Next to drinks ...yes, it's a brewery but there should be some options for non-drinkers, but they literally had water, diet coke, lemonade, and root beer. Kitchen service was awful...it came out so slowly and intermittently that the first person served was done eating before the last person was served 20 minutes later. Now the complicated part. We made a reservation for 11 and the manager acted like this was a big favor to us because they take reservations for 16 people minimum usually. However, to do that I had to pay a 50% deposit with the assumption that each person would eat and drink $50 worth and then add a tip on that. However, once you arrive, you can see from the menu that $50 is almost impossible to spend per person. There are two starters, both soft pretzels, nothing else. There are no desserts. Entrees are just pizza, sandwiches, and hot dogs. Unless people then drink 4-5 beers each, it's impossible to meet the $50 each, and none of us wanted to stagger home drunk at 6 pm on a Thursday evening. And since we had signed a contract for the $50 per person, they charged us for the other 50% as if we had -- basically $230 for food and drink NOT ordered or consumed. They refused to make any exception even when we pointed out how bad the food was in detail and how slow the kitchen service was. If the restaurant was busy and that was the price to get a guaranteed reservation, I might think that was fine. But the place was 80% empty...to the point that I honestly don't know how they stay in business. So they acted like they were doing a huge favor to make a reservation and lock us into a contract when they must have known a reservation was never ever going to be needed at that time of day and day of the week. So I informed them if we had to spend $230 for something we never ordered, we'd take $230 in packaged canned beer. They were not happy about it, but they said the contract covered food and beer, so we took the balance in beer. And I'm so unhappy with the entire place that I don't even want to drink it. Do not go here. The basic beer is not enough to make up for the service and food. We'll never go back and unless you are just going for some average beer, you'd do well to skip it too. What was supposed to be a family college graduation celebration ended with everyone feeling completely disillusioned. read more

We just left Harpoons, came by for lunch and drinks, we're in town for a volleyball tournament so we're all the parents and players, approximately 45 of us. The place is great! Drinks were good, food delicious, and service was fast even after we all showed up at opening time and unannounced (sorry ) .. some delay with the pizzas but hey, small dent overall. Shout out to our waitress Bailey! She was awesome, watched us all walk in and rather than panic (I would have) she organized with great and friendly attitude, had us all sat and had no trouble getting all of our drinks and food orders quickly, all with separate checks too lol she was amazing, thank you for everything, you were awesome. This place does not like ethic people. I ordered a pretzel with 2 dips and they brought it to the wrong people, and when they realized they didn't do anything to repair it. I wrongly assumed they would put in another order but they did not. When I went to the bartender who took my order she said, "Oh yeah when you ordered it the kitchen ran out of pretzels." But the staff kept bringing out pretzels to other customers. Then I explained that I think yall brought it to the wrong people, and she continued to lie to say she didn't. When I saw both the waiter and bartender look at my party and I and shrug. The bartender refused to give me a refund. Luckily, a male waiter was able to help us. If the female bartender didn't lie, I'd let it go. But it just goes to show how they don't care about their non-white customers. read more

Harpoon USED to be good. They are now a marketing company that missed the mark. When you go to the brewery, at least half the taps are not Harpoon beers. I'm sorry, I'm not coming to Harpoon for Clown Shoes or Long Trail. I've been told they no longer make their pretzels in house, which was their last saving grace. Ever since they stopped making the Leviathan series they have been in a downward spiral. Your better off going to Trillium or Castle Island if you in South Boston. read more

Good experience at the Holly Jolly pop up. Decorations were festive, and there were a multitude of them! We got the winter sangria, which was fine. Normally would have stuck with a beer but we decided to try out the drinks for the holiday event. The mocktail offered was phenomenal! Staff at the bar was friendly. The food was fine, not the best bar food I've had but definitely not the worst. It's located on the second floor, but there's a wheelchair-accessible elevator. I didn't have to wait at all to order or get my drink. This place is AWESOME! We came on a weekday and did the $5 brewery tour and sampling experience with Nick. He was great - super informative, personable, and friendly. The brewery is so cool, charming, and clean. We were able to see where the beer is brewed and packaged before going to their original tasting room and learning about the 12 beers on tap with unlimited samples! The UFO beers were fantastic - really light and flavorful and easy to drink. We sampled the blueberry and white during the tour and I purchased the 16oz strawberry lemonade in the taproom. I haven't been to the beer hall but I went to two events at Harpoon and had a great time both times! The first was the Harpoon 5 Miler - a fun challenge plus t-shirt, 2 beer tickets, and free sausage and snacks after the race. It was great! The second event was the Harpoon Octoberfest which was a blast. I went on the Friday and the bands were really great to listen to, there was a good selection of food vendors, and we enjoyed cheering on the stein hoisting competition. I'm not into beer but I did really like their strawberry lemonade shandy, I also enjoy their regular and seasonal pumpkin cider. The brewery is easy to get to on the silver line which we got on at South Station. Will definitely check out future events with them and would recommend to others. read more

While I've never been the biggest fan of Harpoon beer, I did fall in love with the beer hall setting at Harpoon when I visited Boston about a decade ago. There's just something about a big open space with bench seating, beer, and pretzels. It's still a nice space, but the quality control is. . . Well, it's off. We ordered a pretzel with beer cheese and mustard. The pretzel was OK - a little too "bready" for me, but no major qualms. Mustard was good. The beer cheese. . . I don't know how someone let that leave the kitchen. It was foul. Simply not edible. They'd be better off just serving canned nacho cheese. The beers we had were fine - like I alluded to above, we were visiting more for the ambience and atmosphere than the beer or food. Trillium (about a mile up the road) is superior in terms of both food and beer. I would still go back to Harpoon, but I'm hoping they can straighten some quality issues out. read more

We came here for the brewery tour and then stayed for more beer and a bite to eat. The brewery tour tickets can be purchased online for only $5 each. If you're looking for a tour that will go in depth about the brewing process, this isn't the place to be. If you're just looking to try a ton of beers- this is perfect. After a quick walk through the back where they make the beer, we got to a tasting room and realized that was the extent of the tour. But considering we got 12 generous tasting pours with our ticket, we didn't mind. Our guide was super kind and did answer questions for those wanting to learn more about the beer making process. After the tasting, my husband and I decided to stick around to drink more beer and a bite to eat. They have quite a variety on tap and offer pretzels and pizza to eat. Everything was delicious! Since it was pouring outside, we weren't in a rush to leave, so we enjoyed the table games they had available and were happy that the TVs had a variety of NFL games on. The beers were good, I enjoy the UFO blueberry which I got two of. My boyfriend got the strawberry lemonade shandy but he wasn't the biggest fan of. I had a lot of fun here with my sister. We went to play a little cornhole before going on the beer tour. Loved the sample the beers they have to offer. I like the plain and simple Harpoon IPA (first lever thing) and my sister enjoyed the cider. They also have quite the merchandise area, and out of 10 breweries so far, are the only one to sell magnets! They do serve food as well, but the best I saw was pizza, which I'm not a fan of. I love this place. Every time I come to Boston I need to stop here. The vibes are chill and immaculate. There are so many beer options and you can get a flight of 4. Love that we have a brewery near by, we live near seaport and it's walking distance for us and with lot of anticipation we visited it. We love microbreweries. Trillium is 2 mins from where we live but thought of giving harpoon a chance. The vibe wasn't that great. Not very welcoming. We went in the Christmas week, may be we were expecting too much but became completely bummed. I was in town for a concert and visited harpoon, it was a solid experience overall. The pretzel was fantastic--definitely the highlight of the visit--and the beer was exactly what you'd expect from a brewery like Harpoon. There was an event going on, so only a small room was open, but that was fine. The dipping sauces for the pretzel were a mixed bag: the bacon ranch was outstanding, but the beer cheese was not it.
