About a year or so ago I was searching for a career coach to help me find "the work I was meant to…read moredo". Prior to working with Shawn, I thought that a career coach would assess my skills and then tell me what role/job I should do. Very quickly, I learned that that was not how the process worked and I couldn't be happier to have been wrong. Shawns' process helped me uncover what truly makes me happy, what kind of team I want to be a part of, what kind of organization I want to be a part of, and most importantly what job responsibilities would make me happy on a daily basis. For anyone looking to get a better understanding of their skills and job desires and use that knowledge to find a role that fits what you're looking for, then I'd recommend working with Shawn. While I found Shawn via Yelp, I also found a handful of other career coaches on the platform. I chose Shawn due to his business background and the fact that he was a true "Career Coach". I had a business background so it felt like a good fit and I was looking for a "career" specific coach versus a "Life/Career" coach. I worked with Shawn (In-person - I used to live in Seattle) for ~6 sessions. He broke down each session ahead of time so I knew what work I had to accomplish before our meetings and what to expect to talk about in our meetings. The work was challenging and thought provoking, but it really helped me discover my skills, shortcomings, non-negotiable and ultimately led me to the work that I wanted to do. He helped me define what I was looking for in a role, including: team structure, day-to-day responsibilities, environment, reporting structure, and more. He helped me gain confidence that even though I didn't have a background in design, I had inherent skills and aptitudes for the field. One year removed for working with Shawn, I landed a new role in a new career. Shawn helped me find a career path and happiness in my work. Working with Shawn really helped me understand my abilities and clearly define what I was looking for. Once I was able to define my ideal role, I was able to go out and get it. All in all Shawn was a major asset to helping me find the role I'm currently in. I would recommend him to anyone searching for a career coach. Just know, the work is hard but very rewarding!!!!

How I Spring Cleaned My Life…read more Seven months ago I contacted Shannon after deciding my life was at a cross roads. I was completely unhappy with my position at work and needed a new direction. I wrote her and told her what I was having problems with and that I would like to push myself out of my stuck place. At the time, I worked at the front desk of a bank and had been there for a little over three and a half years. I started my journey with Shannon and a week and a half later I was promoted to marketing coordinator. I was thrilled with my step up and thought to myself, what an interesting turn of events. My goal already met, I couldn't imagine what else would I need from her. How wrong I was. She taught me many life skills. Such as to look at the bigger picture and discover my internal voices. I had many players (internal voices) in life but my key player was intuition. I named her Radiance and have learned to call on her as well as listen and trust her. Trust me. Even though I loved my new position, I was not totally confident in what I was doing. In working through my process I discovered how disorganized I was. This did not help at work since I needed to be able to find things right away. I am also an fine artist and Shannon suggested I buy different colored folders to organize my paperwork. Not only did this help, I filed my paperwork that once sat in a pile. I also needed to organize my home, so I took two days off and organized my living space. I gave away three car loads of things to the Good Will. Anything from a TV to a non-working vacuum. I had also been unhappy with my long hair and after five years decided to cut it short. I not only looked younger, but it was a more professional look. The next step I took was to move my boyfriend out of my life, which was not easy but had to be done. The last thing I left was my job. After seven months, I knew I had done everything I could and I was grateful for everything I had learned. At start of my journey, she suggested I read The Dream Giver. It takes you on a journey of self discovery. There were several times when we would refer back to the book. During the middle of my journey I was gripped by fear and didn't want to move and she had asked what the scene looked like. The scene that came to mind was a place of burnt apple trees, minus the apples. The ground was scorched for miles. Each week I was given assignment (s) to complete and my next weeks assignment was to move to the other side. Part of the process was believing I could and then doing it. At the end of my journey the scene was no longer scary, but one of hope and choices. What I saw was an apple tree chuck full of apples and next to the tree is an open door. I have always had a choice and now I am looking for the open door to my next chapter. Shannon's coaching style is energizing, motivating and always reassuring. Having completed the 12-week fitness and wellness introductory course with Taya (people, it's…read morepronounced Tay-uh, not Tie-uh) I'm surprised with my results and I'd do it again in an instant. In fact, I'll be a return client in the future. It wasn't what I expected, but don't let that persuade you into not trying. Initially, I wanted to lose weight... That was it. My goal with her was 30 pounds in the 12 weeks. An aggressive goal, but for me was reasonable. Some quick advice: Heading into this, I did research, interviewed other coaches, and outlined a clear idea of what I expected. I communicated that with Taya prior to starting, and she provided her expectations and outlined her course with me so I'd know what to expect from her. The first few weeks were informative, and goal formative and oriented. We did some "soul-searching" to find out exactly what my mindset and will power were prepared for. From there, we branched out into some of life's basic fundamentals and foundations for myself, to focus our energy on staying the course, and continuing towards my goal. Along the way, she posed challenges requiring me to spend time weekly developing good habits and fundamentals for going forward each week, and not just with fitness and nutrition, but with emotional and character development. (NOTE: you get out of this based on the effort you put into it, just like life. If you're looking for her to fix your issues, at least discuss that with her prior, but my experience was she provides the foundations and support, and I provided the necessary effort. If you're looking for a counselor or parent figure, probably not the program you really need.) I was surprised how quickly the 12 weeks went, and looking back I'm proud of myself and my rapid results. In the end, I'm down 17 pounds overall. However, doing BMI calculations, I also found I'm down 4.6% body fat, I've gained 18 pounds of lean muscle, I'm using holes on belts I've never used in 3-4 years, my jeans fall off without a belt, I've lost several inches around my mid-section, and I've seen noticeable losses in my face, neck, arms, legs.... you get the idea. By my calculations, If I had not gained one pound of muscle, I would be down 35 pounds over the 12 weeks. Now, obviously results will vary, and I was motivated and followed her workout and diet recommendations closely, but I'm completely happy with my progress so far, and the habits we've developed I will continue to build on going forward. If it's confidence you want, she's your lady. If it's getting healthy, losing weight, a mindset change for fitness or wellness, nutrition facts, introspective help with yourself, or any number of similar issues, your time will be rewarded by working with Taya! Additionally, she's REAL... what that means is, she's not a slave driver, but on the other hand, she's not gonna coddle you and tell you you're doing fine when you aren't. Your investment will be rewarded with someone who's invested in you as long as YOU stay invested in YOURSELF. Side note for the GUYS: She's beautiful, right? She smiles at you, she speaks like a lady, and she's polite. Mind your manners and don't assume ANYTHING! She's intelligent and doesn't want your "swerve" or your attitude. She's REAL. Be the same, and treat the experience with the same effort she does and you'll be rewarded with the experience!
