This is a "beach and a campground" state park--not a lot of acreage for hiking or other rustic recreation, but very nice for pitching your tent or parking your RV along Lake Huron. On two trips there, our site was spacious and level, but well-screened in by trees. The extra-long picnic table was convenient for food prepping and cooking. Getting to the beach was a matter of walking across the road, and while you can't too far down the beach, it is a scenic little strand. There is a short walking trail if you stretch your legs for a bit longer. Restrooms and showers were clean, and hot water was abundant, but, at least on our last visit, the automatic sinks wouln't turn on when I needed them. Then at times they would turn on and off when no one was near them. The autoflush toilet also seemed to be operating on its own schedule--hopefully they'll fix that over the winter. This is a great base for beachcombing, hiking at Negwegon State Park just up the coast, or whatever else you like to do in the northern Michigan woods. read more

While we've stayed at campgrounds that were at full capacity (holiday weekends and midsummer) with no issues, there was absolutely no enforcement of the quiet time after 10pm when we stayed here for Labor Day weekend. There was a choir group camping on the other side of the campground that felt it necessary to practice very late into the night. There was the stereotypical "camping mom" that had a speaker tied to her waist with a microphone barking commands and stupid camping games with a group of a dozen kids. There was a large group across the way that had a karaoke setup. And, the UofM football fans could be heard all over the campground shouting their disappointment very late into the night. But, it was a holiday weekend, and I knew this would happen. Luckily, massive thunderstorms rolled in to shut everyone up. Our campsite never flooded during hours of torrential rain late in the night. We stayed at the odd-shaped corner 206 campsite, because it was the only one available when we made reservations at short notice. Our campsite is listed as accommodating a camper up to 25 feet, but good luck with that! We have a small tent, and even that required moving the picnic table and parking my car sideways. Because every campsite has a different shape and amount of trees, I noticed several people having extreme difficulty parking and pulling out with their massive campers. The roads are very narrow, and probably every campsite has a tree and/or uneven ground. The campground is heavily wooded, which was very nice. We stayed at a full-capacity Brimley State Park a month earlier, and because there are few trees in the campground, your neighbor was right on top of you. The day-use beach area was soft sand and clean. The park staff was friendly. The surrounding Harrisville area was nice and quaint with everything you'd need without driving too far. Verizon cell phone signal was perfect. As a male, I didn't care about how far away the nearest toilet was, but my wife complained at how the lone bathhouse was pretty far away. They don't have very many convenient outhouses, but the bathhouse and showers were clean. There was never a wait to take a shower. It was a nice state park that I will surely like to visit for a quieter weekday camping trip. Baseball fans can make a quick drive to Saint Anne Cemetery to see HoF Kiki Cuyler's grave and eat at the local restaurant that used to be his (food was mediocre, but the beer was cold and priced well). read more

A great campground. We had a nice site across from the lake. A good wide site with some privacy. A great modern bathhouse with showers with bathroom/sink. A big plus. Bathrooms were modern and great. They just need fans in the bathrooms to avoid mold. The airflow was not good enough and you could see small amounts of mold on the ceiling. And auto flushing toilets...really stupid. Aggressively flushing as you sit on the seat. Enough to scare a kid for sure. Lol. Otherwise a great campground. read more

We walk here quite often, it's a nice place to walk your dog and just stretch your legs.

Beautiful, safe and convenient place for "modern" camping. However, there is a ridiculous amount of litter left behind by campers. They have dumpsters and a bottle/can recycling center, with signs that say please keep doors closed because of raccoons, but people still throw their trash all around the dumpsters. RIDICULOUS, PEOPLE. Clean up after yourselves and your children, if the dumpsters are full take your trash with you and properly dispose of it elsewhere. read more

Great place to stay. My parents sold their cottage a few years ago, and the new owners air B&B it out. This year we decided to stay at the campground instead. We had a great time. It's great as our kids are getting older and can explore on their own. read more

My friend came here before with their families, so we decided to come for our church small group camping trip. There is electricity on each camping spot. Restroom and showers are pretty decent considering you are camping. The camp site is right next to the beach, which is awesome. It is not a all fine sand beach, some small rocks mingled with sand too. Lake Huron is gorgeous, and surely great place to watch sun rise. Many people bring their pets as well. There is light house in the area. A K-mart 20 minutes away, a Walmart 40 minutes away. read more

This campground is my favorite in all of Michigan. My boyfriend and I stayed on campsite 103 which is a lakeside site. It was beautiful to say the least. Perfect place to set up a tent and have a view of the water. Beware if you stay on this site, there is a tree next to it that kids love to climb. Luckily the kids didn't make any noise in the morning so we were not bothered. Our only regret was not bringing our dogs because this site is next to the pet friendly beach area. This area of the beach doesn't have much sand which must be why it was designated pet friendly, but the dog run it located in this area as well (It's a small patch of woods that is actually very pretty to walk through even without your pet). We have also stayed on campsite 84 which is a lakeside site, but you have to walk through a short wooded path to get to the water. This campground has a bike/walking path which was fun to explore. It also have volleyball nets and a basketball court. Every site has electricity, a picnic table, a fire pit, and fire wood is sold in the campground. The bathrooms are kept clean. I love the facilities because they have individual showers and some of the shower rooms have toilets and a sink so you can have a private bathroom versus being in the stalls. As great as this is, I found that some of the showers don't have hot water, so just make sure you find one that does beforehand. Know that even if you don't get a chance to stay on a lakeside site, the beach is easily accessible, making any of the sites a great place to stay. read more

A lovely Michigan State Park with some really nice campsites on the sandy beachfront. I have camped here four times. Once about five years ago and three times in the past year. I have experienced the old and the new bathrooms. There is so much good about this park, it would be sad to make it all about the bathrooms. However, there are a lot of camping spots, and when the campground is full, not enough bathrooms. I haven't, so far, experienced the bathrooms as dirty. They have always been clean, but most of my visits have been in the off season. This morning I did wait in line to use the bathroom. The women's rest room was closed for cleaning at 7:30 am, and there was a line on both sides of the bath facility to use the private bathrooms and showers. There are still vault toilets throughout the park, but they are not open. It seems that opening those during busy times would alleviate lines at the bathrooms. The staff I have encountered on every visit have been very friendly. I could have extended my stay this weekend, but have already been camping here a week. I live nearby, so when I encountered the lines for the bathroom and shower this morning after a lovely and very quiet pre-holiday week, I opted out. Harrisville is a really great beach campground. I met a lot of nice campers. I'm sure the park will get the bathroom issue resolved. read more

This is probably my wife's favorite state park! She loves the beach here. No Snakes! I Like it too. We have been coming up here since about 2004. Almost every year .They have a newer style Bath or shower house, they have lots of trees, beach front sites,grassy sites, it has trails for biking but very minimal and also trails for hiking and bird watch that are bigger , little Bit of everything. During the week it's very quiet. On the weekend it's usually full all 226 sites taken. During the week the beach sites are all taken usually but the rest of the park is thin. Which is nice. This park also has a firewood seller who drives around the park with wood on a trailer for sale and dumps it right at your fire ring or any place else you might want it. You do pay a slight premium for this but it's well worth it. No driving down the road trying to find firewood Loading it then unloading it when you get to your site. They sell different amounts and of course the more you buy the better the price. Once again we love this state park. My two big issues with the place is the bathroom situation and the dump station situation. The bathroom has two urinals and two stalls with toilets. Then has seven shower rooms with sinks and toilets around the outside of the building. That's for 226 camp sites most have at least two people on them some have a lot more. So on the weekend that's at the least 550 people to use the few toilets. It doesn't seem right. It doesn't seem like enough does it. The other problem I have is the dump station. They have one dump that's it, they have two sides but one dump. The host came up and tried to tell me how to get in line and that they used to have two hoses but disrespectful campers abuses them and ran them over and this and that. And he thinks they ordered another hose with a tee fitting and it should be here by the weekend. Well that's not doing me Any good today. How do they not have a spare seriously how much could it cost or a Tee for the drain. I would bet 99% of the camping rigs out there have there own hose. Just put in the tee fitting. Well, now that that's said. I will stay here again and probably this year. It's a great park we love it.. read more

Been coming here since I was little, nearly 30 years now. My Dad has been coming here for over 50 years. The park used to be great. Staff is now unfriendly, unhelpful, and unmotivated. Campground host just rides around her moped and honks as she goes by. The worst is making only one bathroom now. It's always dirty, there are always lines. It's a long walk from some of the sites, especially for the elderly, disabled, children, or pregnant campers. This will be our last year at this park. read more

A very beautiful park! Easy to get into and well kept. We stayed at one of their cabins for a fair price of $49 per night. The cabin was cozy and clean and so was our campsite. We were lucky to experience no bugs on our trip. The lake is stunning and so are their nature trails. There is a lot to do here to keep you entertained! read more

Have been coming here the last 3 years. One of our favorites. The staff has got to be the friendliest in the state. Always smiling and do an excellent job keeping the park clean. Programs for the kids and a beautiful beach on Lake Huron. Definitely a place to return to year after year. read more

I'm not a camper because I own property in the area. It is a fun place to drive thru and see all the people camping and having fun. their campsites are all decorated with tiny lights and having campfires. Brings a lot of people to the town for all the activities in the area like going to the beach, out to dinner, watching fireworks for 4th of July, parades on July 4th and Labor Day weekend and places to go out for ice cream cones. read more

Pet friendly park with sites that lead to the beach. Beautiful beach and even a sectioned off area to bring your dog out in the water. I've never had problems with the bathrooms and I camp here twice a year. Would recommend this park to everyone. read more
