    Steak on a stone
    Lloyd M.

We were driving from Dublin to Kinsale and wanted to stop for lunch. Had issues with my phone so no access to TripAdvisor or Yelp so we just chanced it. Got off the motorway in Kildare and Harte looked good so we picked it, very happy we did. I had the steak on a stone. One of the best steaks I've had in the UK or Ireland. I guess cooking on a stone is the popular thing right now in Ireland but it is only the second time I've tried it. They served me an 8 oz sirloin on a very hot stone, accompanies with chips, a roasted tomato and a couple of onion rings. The steak is barely cooked and you let it cook on the stone while you are eating. What made it good here is that it was a very high quality sirloin, no grizzle or fat at all. I do wish they had given me a separate plate, because once I had the optimal temperature I felt rushed to finish eating so I would not over cook the steak. The good thing is, you can make it very rare. Chips were chips, good but not incredible. The onion rings, though, were incredible. Service was friendly but it did take a while to keep our tap water refilled. Overall, very good.

We had short notice to find a restaurant to serve as our final meal in Ireland, as well as being able to meet the gluten-free needs of two of our companions. We were very positively surprised by the number of choices available and the quality of our meals. We thoroughly enjoyed the steak (on a stone). What a great treat, cooking the steak to our own preferred level on a hot stone at the table. And the sea trout, pea and bacon risotto... wow! Harte's is deserving of all the positive praise one can give and we will make this a stop on our next visit.

This was recommended by a colleague she's from around here and highly rave about it! So we decided to give it shot after doing some shopping at Kildare village (its only 4 mins drive from there)! Will definitely come here again their food and service was very good also!!

Visiting from California, which has amazing food, but absolutely impressed with the food and friendly service. We came on Friday night without reservations (our mistake) but were able to get served at the bar. My wife had the lamb shoulder and I had the flank of beef and both were perfectly cooked!

The food was flavorful and I loved the ambiance. Seems like the staff is overworked perhaps as the soup was cool as was the meat.

After getting settled in, our amazing hosts (Tony and Iris) recommended The Dew Drop Inn for our dinner. We stopped in and were seated promptly. The location was a 5 minute walk from where we were staying, and is absolutely cozy and lovely inside. They also have a patio (where we sat the next night!) We ordered: The fish and chips, confit of duck, and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Let me tell you, we eat a lot of fish and chips. We also travelled all over Ireland (and Scotland) for a month. The Dew Drop Inn is tied for the BEST fish and chips we've ever eaten. (The other location is the Dingle Ahoy! cart/window in Dingle.) They were absolutely perfect. Crisp, lots of fish, well seasoned. The chips were a revelation as well. I may well be ruined for mushy peas for life, because these were exquisate. Also...the confit of duck was SO good, we decided to come back the next day and order that again!! The second night we were there, I sadly don't recall exactly what we had, but I believe it was a potato soup, and seabass. They were all delicious. We honestly wished we had more time in the area, and part of the reason was to try more food and drinks here!!! The cocktails and beer were grand, and the service was absolutely perfect. We absolutely plan to return to Ireland, and to stay with the same B&B hosts (I want them to adopt us, they were that incredible), so we will absolutely be returning to The Dew Drop Inn.

We stayed in four different cities, and traveled to many more, had lunch or dinner in a variety of pubs, and most, if they had music, were playing 2000's American pop hit junk. Some of those other pubs did have live music schedules for later evening, but we were trying to get our pub experiences at lunch and then 6p-9p range each day so we could get to sleep for the next day's exploring. It's also really nice that this pub is along the water (the river through Kilkenny) and some of the seating overlooks it via window, including open windows if you like. The kitchen closes early here, even on Fridays; 8pm during our June 2026 visit, so plan around that if you are intending to get dinner. Food-wise: * Really enjoyed the beef stew; good price no complaints. * Margherita pizza is great * Caprese Salad is not expensive but pretty mediocre * Seafood Chowder was very good * Tortellini was fine for Ireland Take all the above in context with the overall Irish food scene, which is mostly average at best. These feelings are based on seven days of eating around the country, so when I'm saying the beef stew was really good, that's compared to the rest of Ireland where I had one I liked more and a few others that were not good at all. Drink pricing is on par with other tourist cities; not bad. As with most pubs, beer and liquor selection is limited outside of the extensive Irish Whiskey options. For example, two rums, one bourbon, beers were what we encountered everywhere and no deviation. Service was similar to the rest of Ireland; initial order taking and then you have to flag someone down for anything after that.

We got in and snagged a table in the perfect location. We started off with food. The fish and chips were amazing. The fish wasn't too breaded or oily. The piece of fish was huge! The fresh green onions and homemade tater sauce elevated the dish. We stayed at the pub until Irish music started, which was so good! Hearing the tin whistle, guitar, and beautiful Irish singing was such a treat. We enjoyed a handful of cocktails and Guinness! Very enjoyable night!
