Unfortunately the shop location and layout is not very glamorous or glittery like the images in ones head, but maybe that would be a lot to live up to. The shop contains two sections, one is mainly just rolls of different carpets and the other is full of sample books of other types of flooring, mainly laminate and water proof. They also sell a few other house furnishings such as cabinets, tables and chairs. The guy inside is friendly and eager to help, however I think the price was a little steeper than usual at £8.88 per square metre.

The room you enter first has a wide variety of mats and carpets on display, from bathroom mats to mats for a large living room as well as carpet samples and rolls. The next room has yet more mats and carpets, samples of other flooring types, a few somewhat unusual sofas on display and catalogues from which similar sofas can be ordered. Upstairs is two rooms full of beds - mainly double with large, flat bases. The prices are varied - you could probably find a few bargains but some might be more expensive than you expected. It's the kind of place that's probably worth popping into if you're in the area and looking for carpets flooring or furniture but I can't imagine travelling a long way to visit it specifically...unless you like their very particular style of sofa (petite and patterned with quite elaborate detailing) as you might not find it elsewhere.

They pride themselves on some of the North's leading contemporary designers and their furniture is sheer class. They are home to 35 cutting-edge designers and there is enough inspiration to keep even my motor mouth quiet for an hour or so. If you want to jazz up your lounge, no problem. Slick and chic sofas sit along side funky tables. You'll even find plush flooring, cookware and gifts. It's quite pricey but sometimes money does buy taste and it shows here. Add to that four cafes to refresh those flagging shopping legs and it's worth a punt. A definite reason to venture into Batley and spruce up the house in your life.

You don't need to buy everything - you can just walk away with a kitchen sink if you need, the staff are friendly and always make you feel welcome. If you are seriously looking, or just future dreaming, The Knaresborough Kitchen Company are a great place to start.

But I really like what Ikea does and I love their design ethic in terms of value to high end, most stuff is usually pretty cool and as long as you don't do an Edward Norton in Fight Club and you have the whole apartment decked out page to page then it's all good. I've gotta say though that I find the food in the cafe becoming a bit too Anglicised/Americanised with less Swedish influence than it used to have. I had to really search for the gravlax and the daim bar cake seems to be getting poorer in quality. Saying that it's not biggie but I hope they do stick to their food values and always sell their Swedish wares!

I only had one item but, because I was paying cash, I had to queue for a 'manned' till behind about 7 people who had obviously chosen today to refurnish their entire house with Ikea goods. But they are not *the* DFS, so don't be confused between the two. Despite this they still offer a really good range of furniture, at a much cheaper price than the original DFS. Coffe tables, console tables, occasional tables, TV and media Units, storage units and book cases, tub chairs and arm chairs, dining room furniture, kitchen and bar furniture, mirrors, bedroom furniture, sofas and sofa beds can all be seen in their 4 showrooms. They also offer free delivery on purchases of over £1000.
