Firstly, the restaurant and its location: Voltaire is situated near to Bangor pier. It's an attractive, bohemian restaurant with Moroccan style colours and furnishings but with a few modern twists thrown in like skateboard decks on the walls in place of the usual wooden carvings. It's a relaxing, cosy place to eat and a lovely place to spend a few hours. The staff: All of the staff were super-friendly, attentive but somehow still totally chilled! They were really helpful when we were choosing from the menu and genuinely seemed excited by the food that they offered. The food: Obviously I'm saving the best bit to last with this review! What can I say about the food? Well, it's not a "wholefood" menu like the veggie restaurants of old that's for sure. Voltaire's menu is so naughty that you have to pinch yourself to remember that it's 100% Vegan! The initial difficulty is choosing as everything sounds sooooo tasty. When we eventually decided what we wanted we went for: * 'The Voltaire Burger' - Their homemade burger which is topped with mushrooms in a white wine sauce. * 'The Big V BLT' - Again, their homemade burger but this time topped with to-die-for Vegan bacon. * 'The Howlin' Wolf Platter' - This is under their 'Table Picnic' menu and is a sharing platter which two of us devoured and which the other two kept jealously pinching things from! It comes with 2 x cheeseburgers, mac n cheese, sticky Vegan ribs, southern fried tofu plus fries, salsa and coleslaw as sides and a few huge onion rings. It was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and every bit of it tasted beautiful. For dessert two of us had: * 'The Rocky Road Sundae' - This had layers of chocolate brownie with marshmallows, ice cream, skinny Oreos and squirty cream and was fantastic. Drinks: * They had sold out of cider so I had a Conwy black IPA which was great. They had other beers too. * Voltaire has an extensive wine and cocktail menu. For "dessert" I had a Mojito which was really good and a nice way to finish what was a very special meal. Summary: Voltaire is an absolute gem. A Vegan wonderland nestling by the seaside. We can't wait to go back and try some of the other treats their menu has to offer!

Positives: -Cosy space -Named after Voltaire. -Vegan; an usual find in a small town like Bangor. Negatives: -Voltaire used to have a great menu, my favourite item was the seitan skewers. They've since removed these and I can't find anything I like on the menu. It's all overly fried and fatty. Overall there are more positives than negatives. I will return, but please bring back the seitan skewers!

In Llandudno for 5 days on a break. Having stuffed ourselves at breakfast and after numerous cups…read moreof coffee before our trip on the Great Orme Tramway, we needed substinance and found this lovely little café. The Rabbit Hole is a Social Enterprise set up by Aberconwy Mind to provide real work experience and training for "people who are experiencing or have experienced mental health issues" All profit is put back into the charity to continue delivering valuable support, training and mentoring for their trainees. It has a lovely atmosphere and being down below street level it is like entering into the world of Alice with its clock wall paper. You can either sit at the tables near the kitchen or in the wonderful lounge with its rather comfy sofa and walls decorated with book wallpaper. The staff in the Rabbit Hole are lovely and polite, willing to help and explain the drinks and menus to you, also letting you know which of the foods that are available are gluten-free, suitable for vegans and if they have nuts in or not. As this was a "light" lunch, we had a lovely soup and then coffee and cake but the menu looked inviting.. The choice is great and it was very helpful of the "Rabbit" chef to explain what each cake was and what was in it. It has free wifi and I embarrassed myself somewhat by asking the guy on the laptop how long he was going to be, only to discover it was his laptop and not for general use. He was great and let me use it and I gave him the name of a website "Food that doesn't hurt" as he was looking for good recipies. Both of us happy chappies. It is very good value for money and a lovely place to sit and chat. Highly recommended if you are ever in Llandudno,

The pan fried crispy duck was outstanding (so was the sticky toffee pudding!) My tablemates were equally satisfied with the baked cod and the pork belly. Highly recommended!

A lovely restaurant in a picturesque village location…read more We're a family of 4 Vegans and we ate at Y Sgwâr yesterday evening. We only booked a few hours in advance of our reservation but as the owner is Vegan herself they were not fazed in the slightest by our dietary requirements and we were given a number of options for each course when we arrived. Starters: We had the tomato tart and soup. Both were lovely and there was a choice of two Vegan soups which came with bread and dairy free spread. Main Course: We had the Thai vegetable green curry with a dhaal side and the pancake. The curry itself and the side of dhaal were great. Both really flavoursome and tasty. The pancake was fantastic and was served as a burrito with mushrooms, spinach, couscous and other delights inside. I had it with rice but you can have chips or rosemary & lemon potatoes instead. Dessert: Not that we had much room for dessert after the excellent starter and main course! We all had the chocolate cake was absolutely wonderful! Moist with lots of tasty chocolate icing on top. Apparently it's always Vegan too. They gave us the option of either whipped soya cream (which we chose) or sorbet to accompany it. There were also lots of Vegan wines marked clearly on the menu. All in all a super meal in a lovely environment, served by great staff. Highly recommended. We will be going back regularly.
