To preface this review, my partner is quite a stereotypical man who doesn't really know much about fashion so when entrusted with the daunting task of finding a suit we were really hoping the staff here would be somewhat helpful. We found Ieuan Webb and asked for some help. My partner admitted that he had no clue what he was doing and basically gave him the reigns. The result? A wonderful 3 piece suit with a matching shirt and tie completely styled nicely! Ieuan spent quite a while picking things out and was patient with the fact that we weren't really helpful with pointing him in any particular direction. He gave us tips on what colours work well together and some advice on which style of tie knot worked. Overall, we left really impressed! If we come back for a suit for another occasion, we'll definitely be going back to him again. The rest of the staff seemed just as helpful and while I was waiting for my partner, one of them was even passing out sweets to the customers. Everyone seemed to really enjoy working there which is a far cry from a lot of other retail stores. I'd happily recommend Slaters to anyone looking for a new suit, particularly people who aren't confident with knowing what to pick out themselves. The result is worth it!

In fact it's jeans that Barker are probably best known for - with more for men than for women. They have a wide range, with different labels, denims and styles, then alongside that they have quite a few t-shirts, hoodies, and so on. The shop front itself is fairly plain and simple from the outside, and then inside it's quite relaxed and informal, with friendly, helpful staff.

We found a belt here which was perfect, if a little expensive, but the lady behind the counter was lovely enough to keep the last one behind the counter for us while we raced around all the other shops, just in case! Although this is a fairly large shop, there did seem to be a weird usage of space. That might have been because there was a sale on, but from what Sarah P says, it's like that all the time. The clothes here all quite plain, using simple colours and cuts, but they do have nice cuts, so it's certainly worth a browse when you're in the area.

Some of their dresses I'm thinking of in particular. Upstairs is the home furnishing department. And this is the bit really like. They tend to be those branded, fancy shoes, so these aren't exactly cheap. I think this will tend to be a shop attended by those that are into fashion and all that kind of thing. They also do toys and a range of clothing for the little ones as well.
