My family and I drove into Mississippi to celebrate my grandmother's 93rd birthday. After the celebration, some of our family members decided to go into town for dinner at Harvey's which had great reviews. We called ahead but was told that they did not take reservations. Upon entering the restaurant and checking in we overheard a young lady state the a table was ready for the reservation. I immediately asked if they took reservations as we had been told over the phone no. Before I could get the entire sentence out, the hostess threw up her hand and said, "Hold on, let me get you together. We do but not after a certain point." I stood in disbelief for a second at which I told her I understood just wish that would have been explained on the telephone. Unbeknownst to me, as I was turning to walk away, my sister witnessed that same hostess tell another waitress that "I'm not in a hurry to seat them." It was later explained that she was not speaking about us per se but regardless, this should not be stated about any customers waiting for service. After 1.5 hours of waiting with no check-in or update, I approached the hostess stand to see where we were on the list and the hostess stated that another party that we all saw come in after us was next and then she would seat us. At this point, I asked for a manager. She brought over a gentleman that I would later find out is the banquet floor manager. After telling him of our concerns, he stated he would take care of it but then disappeared to the back of the house for the next 15-20 minutes. I then went back and asked for the gentleman I spoke with at which point the restaurant manager approached. I explained to her the problem at which time, the hostess got huffy when I explained her tone, lack of communication and follow up. She then proceeded to put her hands in my elderly father's face when he was trying to explain the dynamics that had been occurring during our wait. At his point, we are 2 hours into the wait with hungry anxious kids (4 of them), 3 elderly adults and just want to leave. I will give credit to the Manager Molly for trying to make things right but it was an hour too late. We have since spoken with the corporate office and commend them for working to correct the mistakes for that evening. We hope to return in the near future with a better experience. read more

I frequently go to the Harvey's in Starkville, MS and absolutely love the entire environment, food and servers. Due to weather conditions, the Harvey's in Starkville, MS made a reservation for my party at the Columbus Location for a surprise Birthday Party. Upon arriving, the hostess immediately said oh yes for five people, which had ruined the entire surprise celebration which has been planned for a few weeks. The Birthday girl and I were sat at a completely different table than the rest of our party, who had already ordered drinks. The bartender was very rude and forced them to close out their tabs rather transferring the tab to the waiter who was suppose to take care of our table, I worked in a restaurant and this is possible to do and is not difficult. Finally, my entire party and I were seated together and we ordered drinks. The bartender who was unprofessional made an unexceptionally rude comment to the remainder of our guests for not giving her a tip, her exact words were "well you didn't tip me at all". This had made our entire party uncomfortable and we all wanted to leave immediately but we were celebrating our cherished friends birthday. Previously working in a restaurant, I am fully aware of how it all works but it is unacceptable to hire classless workers who begs and almost force for customers to give a tip when the mistake in service was not the customers fault and is the front of house's mistake. I am beyond displeased with this unprofessionalism, and will never recommend this location to anyone!! My friends who birthday it was tonight, had never gone to Harvey's and she was utterly displeased with this service and does not ever want to come back ever again!! She said it was a complete mistake to ever come to this location in the first place! Management needs to hire better employees who don't scrutinize their customers and beg for tips when a mistake was made in the front of the house!! UNACCEPTABLE & UNPROFESSIONAL!! This is one of the "best" places in town. Probably true, but it says more about the town's low expectations than the restaurant's high standards. That said, I heard it used to be very good. This is a small town without a lot of choices, so I do eat there, and will continue when out of other options. To be positive, best choices are the shrimp and grits and baked beans (not together). On the negative, the beef is marinades in such a strong pineapple marinade, that it has no beef flavor. A plus for those that dont like the taste of meat, but a negative if you want your beef to taste of beef. The grilled chicken topped with barbeque sauce, ham, and cheese is too much of a good thing. The barbeque sauce overwhelms the ham and cheese. There are few choices for those that have to avoid wheat. To sum it up, you pays your money and you takes your chances. read more

My favorite restaurant when I come home to visit. Today's visit was different as everything took way too long and all of the managers were sitting right there. ( I'm sure having a meeting. )I had to basically flag someone down to take care of the check. This should never happen. Kaelyn our server was very accommodating. Wow, not enough positive phrases to describe this place!!! We are traveling through from out of town and there's a reason they call Columbus the friendly city. We were seated right away by a very friendly host, and the food came quickly. It was perfectly flavored and well cooked. We ordered the salmon and Mahi Mahi. The manager/owner came over and recognized that we were first time customers and comped our appetizer for us. Love that you can also do touchless paying by scanning a code on your receipt. Poor dining experience on 21 Feb 2019, followed up to restaurants General Manager via web "contact us" on 26 Feb 2019, followed up to restaurants CEO via web "contact us" on 6 Mar 2019, followed up to CEO via US Post Office mail on 12 Mar 2019. Today is 18 Mar 2019 and I have never heard from anyone at Harvey's, clearly our poor dining experience and three "contact us" attempts haven't registered with the company's leadership. 21 February 2019 restaurant experience. Host was very pleasant. Server was prompt and took drink/app order, even up sold us to the extra pour on wine. Order taken and we really had to laugh at trying to upsell .25 for egg or cheese added to a salad (maybe raise the price of all salads .25 and then offer complimentary egg or cheese). For an "upscale" restaurant we just thought this was funny. Ordered Prime Rib/Potato/Salad and Shrimp &Grits/Salad. Meal arrived and Shrimp & Grits were fine - Prime Rib was cold, and tough (I did ask for an end cut) but it was leather tough and had zero flavor. For a "house specialty and melt in your mouth tender" it was extremely disappointing. It almost seems as if the prime rib came off the food service truck precooked ready to be warmed and served. Baked potato was not cooked through at all, top portion was soft but bottom half was rock hard and cold. Server either got busy or something else as another server finally came by and returned with horseradish. Then we finally got iced tea/water refills. Shame on me for not voicing that my meal was cold and flavorless then and there, however we had after dinner plans and did not want to be delayed, nor did I want to ruin our date night. Harvey's has always been a steady local restaurant for special occasions, business dinners, and date night, however this night was a serious fail. read more

Traveling from California and the moment we walked through the door we were greeted with southern hospitality we all hear about! We were immediately seated and taken care of. We had just flown all day and were starving. We started with the broccoli bite appetizer and those were so yummy. Our salads came out they were fine but just drenched with dressing. For dinner I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the catfish and grits. Both were great. We ended with the bread pudding and it was sooooooo good. Our waitress was darling and very attentive! My last visit here I had poor service and always want to give a restaurant the benefit of the doubt so I went again for lunch today. It was not very crowded at all. I experienced an 8 minute arrival time for my server after I was seated. Once I was able to place my order, and after 31 minutes, my food arrived. On Sundays you can order from the brunch menu until 4:00pm, or from the regular menu. If this is new Harvey, I will hold on to my memories of what used to be. We arrived an hour and a half before closing. I was told to check myself in even though 3 host were stationed at the hostess stand and waited 45 minutes. I do not mind the wait for a great experience. I am still waiting for that great experience. Our appetizer, pimento crawfish dip, was greasy, steak was over cooked only to be off set by the under cooked potato, shrimp and grits was lumpy and cold. Had to beg for drinks and even water took three times of asking to be refilled. Ordered dessert, main reason we came, but the waitress came back to the table to inform us it was to late even with them still setting people. Be assured the only thing they were prompt on was swiping my credit card, our waitress's reader would not work but she found one that would in no time flat but that will not be an issue again. The new Harvey's has so much to learn from the past. Love the new decor but the new customer service makes Hardee's look good. read more

Sever came by and I gave her my order. Someone else brought order out and my drink was never refilled so I ate meal without a drink. Finally after finishing eating, the server came by and told me she was not neglecting me but she was having to take care of s party of 25. I told her I was neglected because I never saw her after she took my order. Manager came over and I told him what had happened. He acted concern but could tell he didn't mean it. This place use to be my favorite spot to eat at in Columbus. The absolute best, with impeccable service. Last night, May 25th, was my first time going in several months and the service was abysmal. The waitress only tended to one table at a time. She'd take them things, find out what else they wanted, go get it, while completely ignoring us. I even flagged her down cause I needed a drink refresh after finishing mine a good 10 minutes earlier and she completely ignored me. And this was a Wednesday night, so the place was not busy in any way. It's called multitasking and I know what it's like to be a server. She needs serious training. I have never felt so ignored and disrespected at Harvey's back when I believe their names were AD, Jessica, and Crystal worked there. They were no where to be seen. The drinks were subpar and not mixed right and the waitress, who's name I can't remember but she had curly brown hair, didn't seem to care. It seemed to be new waiters, waitresses, and they were nothing compared to Harvey's of 6 months ago. And the manager Jody was rude. I've never had such a horrible experience at Harvey's in Columbus. We are here on Saturday night, 9/24/2016. I had the gumbo, wife had some kind of spinach cheese dip, daughter had shrimp bisque, friend had tuna. The tuna and the spinach dip were good, but the shrimp bisque was so salty, my daughter was only able to eat a few bites. My gumbo was too salty as well. My wife's family is from Louisiana, so yeah, we know how it should be, but it shouldn't be that salty. Come on guys, lighten up on the salt, but you could had some more spice. read more

Harvey's is a very good restaurant in Columbus, MS. A business partner and I ate there two nights in a row this week. First night, no wait, Tuesday night, Larry was our server and was excellent. I had Shrimp and Grits and my friend had the Cajun Pasta. S&G was good, shrimp plentiful and delicious. Cajun pasta was a bit mild but flavorful and we cleaned the plates. You can get a Iceberg Wedge salad (not on menu) which was excellent as well. We did have the Broccoli Bites as an appetizer, very good! Wednesday night we came back, busier night so we ate at the bar. Server was friendly but got my partner's order wrong, we ate anyway. He had Shrimp and Grits (ordered Shrimp Scampi) and I had the 10oz Prime Rib (medium). S&G wasn't as good tonight, Prime Rib was a bit overdone and not great. Wedge salads again, superb. The Four Cheese Mac & cheese was a bit dry, not as creamy as I hoped. Bread pudding was good, not exceptional. I will eat here again but a Four Star night followed by a Two Star night here on this trip. The Broccoli Bites are unique and very good. The server Wednesday recommended the Prime Rib as amazing and it was not at all. Larry was totally terrific as our server on our first night. Ask for the "off-the-menu" Iceberg Wedge with Blue Cheese, Blue Cheese crumbles and bacon. Magnificent! read more

This is probably our favorite place to eat in columbus. We love that they have a wide range of prices so you don't have to spend a fortune if you're not in the mood. Their chicken noodle soup and corn chowder is the best I've ever had. They have a different quiche every day and serve it with awesome fruit and a soup or salad for $8, which is awesome for such a nice place. My husband usually orders a particular chicken dish with jalapeño grits or their marinated ribeye and is always pleased.
