I want to share my extremely positive experience with Top Hats of America…read more My Fiancee's Uncle had a collapsible top hat from the 1970's sitting on a shelf in his house for years. He had been a DJ in the 70's and 80's and the top hat was part of his persona. It was pretty beat up and discolored from years of use and then sitting on a shelf. When he was clearing out his house in preparing for a move, I saw it and tried it on. Luckily it fit me perfectly (I have a large head and it's hard for me to find hats that fit me) and he told me I could take it. I had planned to purchase a new top hat at some point in the next year or so for my wedding; but when I saw that this hat's frame and structure were in good shape I wanted to see if I could get it restored. I contacted JJ's Hat center in Manhattan (My favorite hat store) and they directed me to Top Hats of America. I contacted David Penso and after exchanging emails and photos of the hat for a couple of days, he quoted me a fair price and told me to ship the hat to him. I sent it over on a Friday, it arrived at their store Monday, and by Tuesday he had shipped it back to me fully restored! I was blown away at how good it looked. They did a better job than I could've imagined. It looks like a brand new hat! And they managed to get it back to me in less than a week! I now plan to wear it at my wedding next year. I went to buy a gift, when I asked for the location of the department I was looking for there was no staff to be found, the people working at the store for vendors assisted me the best they could which I appreciated. They have the worst customer service, I repeat this is in general Macy's everywhere. There is no personal touch and the eagerness to serve the customers and land a sale at the same time. No manners whatsoever, upon completion of my shopping I asked an employee on the floor for the location of the bathroom, she gestured a direction that I could not follow and when I asked again "where" she ignored me. I know our lives, jobs and our way of life in general is changing but humanity remains. I must say this is not the only big name department store where being rude is the norm.
