Some days they had maybe 8 babies! They also frequently did not change her nappy after 3pm - 3.30pm, and I was collecting her at 6pm. One time she had clearly soiled her nappy and was still sitting in it. She was the last one to be collected so surely one of them could have changed her, they didn't have anyone else to watch. Numerous fitness classes also are held.There is a support worker available who can offer informal one-to-one advice on a variety of issues. Students from the local college offer hairdressing at reduced rates and there is a cafe serving healthy freshly-prepared meals, again at a very reasonable cost. It is now one of the UK's leading charities, if not the leading charity. This charity shop is somewhere you can go to buy the odd gift or item of clothing all at low prices and in good condition. The public are always welcome to donate cash or unwanted items to the shop as long as the condition of the item is acceptable. Every time I walk into charity shops, I'm tempted to buy something I don't really need and that's the attraction Barnardo's brings. You'll probably end up seeing something that catches your eye or spot something you know somebody else would be fond of. Barnardo's is no exception.

During the past year or so, a few friends and I sort of got together and formed a band (not much…read moregood, obviously) and after having several practices in their back room, much to their neighbours disdain, we decided to venture out to a real practicing space with real amplification and sounds (hopefully). Situated in an old warehouse, the studios is quite difficult to find if you don't know the area, hidden down a back street near Moorfields Station (even the front door isn't easy to see). The interior is pretty basic but the practice rooms themselves have everything you need and anything extra can be rented on request. The toilets leave little to be desired, but what's rock 'n' roll about a hygienic bathroom? You're there to make sweet, sweet music and for that purpose, Crash ticks all the boxes. The sound in some rooms is worse than others but to be honest, with the noise we were making, it was usually hard to tell if it was the room's fault or our own. Each practice room also contains a couch for relaxing in between rockin' out and there are refreshments available downstairs in the 'reception' area, which is basically a room with a pool table and a desk. The staff there are friendly and helpful, offering good advice or help whenever needed. They also offer recording services at a reasonable price and storage spaces, perfect for all those drummers out there to store their sets at least.

Crash may not be the most glamorous venue, but it offers fantastic, well-priced and well-located…read morerehearsal space for up-and-coming bands in Liverpool. Located just off Dale Street, Crash has a number of rehearsal rooms housed in a large old building (maybe an old warehouse). Most of the rooms are spacious and well-equipped with PA systems and sound-proofing. There is also a communal bar area where musicians gather and chew the fat over gigs and ideas. Oh, and if you forget any strings etc you can pick them up at a reasonable price from reception. I have used Crash a number of times and have always been struck by how friendly the staff and patrons are. There's a really great music scene in the city and you really feel part of it here. My only slight criticism is that the could be better parking facilities. Other than that it has a lot of character and does all the basic things well. However, make sure you book ahead as it gets quite busy!

The service at Cheshire Lines Building on Canning Street, not far from Hamilton Square Station, is pretty new after relocation of the service and a state of the art facility. If you are thinking of going, I'd recommend phoning in advance which allows you to book a microfilm reader or computer. I went for the microfilm reader. Once you arrive, you have to ring a buzzer and then the archive staff come and get you. Take identification - otherwise they will send you on your way home again! There isn't parking available but if you do need somewhere to park your car you should find something on Bridge Street, Woodside and Elgin Way. I had a fairly fruitful visit and would recommend it.
