There is a bike trail you can take to get into the city or ride the roads, as many people there are biking, there are bike lanes. Our room was very spacious and I liked that the toilet was in a separate space than the shower and main sink . The breakfast buffet was your typical european with pastries, meats, cheese, breads, cereals, yogurt. Along with the buffet, you can order eggs, cooked as you choose. There is no air conditioning, though there was a fan in the room. WIth the cooler night temp, open window and the fan, it was sufficient. I don't know if that would be the case on a very hot day. One tip - we were in room 14, which is on the back of the building. If it is summer and you are going to have the windows open, if other guests are leaving very early and you aren't planning to get up early, the noise from them in the parking lot can carry up a bit. Unfortunately, their restaurant was closed the week we were there, so we didn't get to try it!

Your typical European continental breakfast with the pastries, cheese, meats, eggs, beverages. You must check in to tell them your room number. You may sit at either of their two dining rooms. Each room is equipped with a battery operated safe that consist of 4 AA batteries. We were skeptical to use this in case battery died with our passports and valuables which was an inconvenience. Our room did not have a fridge but my family got a 4 person room next door. It was a queen bed with two twin separated by a sliding door. They had a fridge and hot water kettle. I was in a superior room and the king sized bed was 2 twins pushed together, which worked fine. Full bathtub. Noisy street traffic. Staff was ok, in general seemed mostly young and never greeted or acknowledged us when we came in or were going out. Breakfast was ok, the dining area is modern and seemed new. Selection of food was slightly above average- cold cuts, bread, eggs, yogurt and fruit bowl. Multiple drink choices. There was an almond sized cherry pit in the coffee cake that almost broke a tooth- not good! Staff didn't seem to care when we mentioned this to make sure they were careful no one else had an unfortunate accident. We ran into the old owner one morning who was very gracious and kind in greeting us. The price for the experience we received seemed fair. I don't see the hotel winning any awards but it was good enough and the location was convenient.

A real bonus is the free DVDs available and in-room Blue-Ray DVD players. There are approximately 100 titles to borrow, with mainly blockbuster hits but of course including The Sound of Music and Amadeus. The walls are a bit thin--at 5am one morning our neighbors were a bit boisterous and we could hear it. The shower is one of those pesky European models that gets the floor sopped no matter how careful you are. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about train service, etc. The mini-bar fridge is roomy enough to allow storing your own things (and it is just a fridge, so you are not charged automatically just if you move things around). In-room nespresso machines will set you back 1.50 Euro per capsule, so drink up at the complimentary breakfast (the breakfast has a very nice spread overall). The room includes a docking station/speaker for i-pods and pre-i-phone 5 models. purchasing 24 hours of wifi is 5 Euro and is totally worthless. Our connection would last at most 5 to 10 minutes at a time before it would disconnect, and using even voice-only skype was out of the question- the calls we tried to make were riddled with so many problems they all were unsuccessful. There is no fitness area. Our room rate was 125 Euro/night. For the price, and for a limited 2-night stay, though our room was a couple of notches below our normal standards on a long trip, Der Salzburger Hof did the job.
