The service was very quick but if you don't speak Spanish, you will have to use the pointing or Google Translate. My boyfriend speaks Spanish so this was not an issue for us. We shared Mofongo with shrimp in the red sauce and Chicharon de Pollo (crispy bone-in chicken) with a side of arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas). Everything tasted amazing. I used to live next to the spot so we actually traveled from my new apartment because they have the best mofongo in the neighborhood, in my opinion. I used to get Tres Golpes breakfasts a lot so if you are into it, this is your spot. Try cafe con leche - it's amazing! No matter how much I try to make it at home, they just taste so much better. Service along with language barrier. If you are not of Spanish descent or lack of communicating in Spanish you may want to avoid this spot. The staff/waiters and waitress do not understand English nor speak it. You will have to wait for an interpreter to complete an order. Additionally, I'm not sure if the staff ignored our little family on Mother's Day on purpose, but we had to flag down a manager just to take our order after being seated for 1/2 hour. Place was not busy at that time. Hubby and I had to use an interpreter for our order. Received our alcoholic drinks (which were delicious) we then waited another 45 minutes (our two Grandchildren were sleeping by this time 5&7 year olds) then a waitress stopped by the Table and asked " IS YOUR ORDER FOR HERE OR TO GO?" In broken English. I almost lost my mind that she would ask such an insane question while I'm sipping on a margarita and hubby has a beer in front him in their glasses. Well, plates finally arrived and were not even warm but cold. We eventually, got the message that we were not wanted and woke up the two children and paid for our drinks (left a tip) and exited the restaurant. Not sure what was going on there that day. I came here for dinner with a small group of friends. The interior is lovely and feels light and airy, with plenty of space. There were also pretty paintings on the wall. There was Soursop Shake on the menu, which I always have to get because it's a rare find. The beverage was delightfully thick, creamy smooth, refreshing, with just the right amount of sweetness. Decided to share the Picadera Havana Heights, which consisted of steak, pork chop, shrimp, yuca fries, as well as tostones. This was only $38 and more than enough for 2 people. The food came on a large platter and looked quite impressive. The steak was probably my favorite meat, as it was wonderfully tender, and well seasoned, with nice char grill marks. I also enjoyed the pork chop, which was full of flavor and succulent, however there was not enough of it. The shrimp was also tasty and juicy. I found the chicken to be dry and bland though. The yuca fries were perfectly crunchy. The tostones were satisfyingly crispy and flavorful. Service was decent. My Sister and I connected in NYC and hit up Havana Heights which is a Cuban Restaurant in Washington Heights near Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. This was our first item here and the waitstaff was really helpful with recommendations. We had some Mojitos with coconut and these were the BEST Mojito's that I have ever had. I would recommend this restaurant for the Mojitos alone. Now for the food. I got the Tour of Havana which had roast pork, braised beef and fried chicken. The winner in this combo was the roast pork which was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The others were just ok. I had a side of the rice and black beans and that was great. My sister had the steak and shrimp (Bistec and Camarones) which she really enjoyed. We shared a side of fried plantains and they were great. For dessert we shared some red velvet cake that was really good....and another round of Mojitos :-) The interior of the restaurant was really nice with some awesome artwork on the walls. It also had a really cool bar area. From the services, to the drinks, to the food to the dessert, our expectations were exceeded. Overall I would highly recommend Havana Heights. Check it out. Once seated, servers often leave you waiting without checking in. At the very least, they should bring water while you decide on your order. After placing your order, there's no follow-up to see if you'd like a beverage, which is a basic service standard even fast-food chains like McDonald's provide better customer care. The issue isn't the staff but the lack of leadership and proper training from management. The drinks were super strong and reasonably priced. I would definitely go back just for their happy hour. The coconut and horchata mojitos were great. We got a picadera de carne which came with chicken, shrimp, steak, a pork chop, tostones and yuca frita. It was a ton of food that we couldn't finish and had to take home but it was flavorful and enjoyable. For an app, we got the plantain chips with guac. The extensive menu is a little sketchy about ingredients in a dish and the wait staff aren't very knowledgeable for filling in missing info for those with food restrictions. It would help if you spoke Spanish, the staff are not fully bilingual and pretty much ignored me and only spoke to my Spanish speaking companion. I stopped by Havana Heights with my work group of 6 on a random weekday for lunch and we were seated outside. There's plenty of space in the outdoor area, with a nice tent overhead. The menu, as others have said, is quite extensive, so it was overwhelming to figure out what to order as a first time customer unfamiliar with Cuban food in general, not to mention everything else they offer. I ended up getting the pollo mofongo! The plantains in the dish have lots of garlic so it's quite tasty, although the chicken was a bit too dry. Very comforting, though, and something I would get for takeout from time to time. Huge portion size too! Service was friendly, but much slower than we expected - maybe they were short staffed? We all got our food around the same time after perhaps 30-40mins of waiting total. I definitely had to pace myself on the sangria before the food came out. I would come back if I needed a lunch fix on a work day. Washington Heights doesn't have the widest selection of places for food (it's expanding more now), and I do think Havana Heights is a neighborhood staple that people enjoy. read more
