I've used Hawks Prairie Automotive for all my mechanical needs on my 2006 Lexus ever since I moved here ten years ago. They have done everything on my car from simple lof's to issues like complete major factory recommended maintenance. Their prices are competitive with others and they offer a free shuttle if your car is going to be in the shop for an extended period of time. Requested scan codes for check engine light, and requested A/C to be checked because not blowing cold. They did unauthorized service on A/C unit. That caused price to go way up. And used a dye that was unauthorized which bumped up a check it to a service. Because i am a woman, i feel they took advantage of me. They charged labor $330.00, parts $27.85, HAZMAT $7.02...... all for less than 30 minutes of hands on time. Absolutely ridiculous. I will never take mycar back there. read more

Once i decided i would fix my car at another shop because they quoted me $2100 for a $200 problem, they were extremely rude to me. Threw my keys down onto the counter at me, didnt put my lugnut covers back on after they told me it was all put together, tried to get me to pay for an inspection that was not on my origional quote because i wasnt having them fix it. Overall very rude, dismissive, scammers. If i could give 0 stars i would. Worst mechanic experience ive ever had. read more

they told me they would not charge me money if they could not find the problem with my truck . they replaced a few small parts and said it was fixed and charged me $1280. but it wasn't fixed it still had the same issue . when I brought it back they said they could not fix it but would not refund my money. read more

Run! These guys quoted me over 18K for a replacement engine, and then he said that was the only option !!! There was nothing else available!!! LIES! I found a low mileage used engine for under 4K (several as a matter of fact) with a limited warranty. And I found crated rebuilt engines up to 8K with a warranty. And I dont have automotive industry connections. I initially went here because another site had them rated at 4.8 (dummy me - check all the sites for the ratings). They were really nice and friendly. But they are definitely lacking integrity and trust. read more

I took my car in for general maintenance and to have my tire checked because I had a tire gage light on. They finished in 20 minutes and when I went to start my car, the tire light was still on. Reported it to front desk and they had someone take The car and check one tire. Put 10 pounds of pressure in 1 tire. Part of that service includes check tire pressure and Tread. IT'S obvious that wasn't done. What else was skipped. Have used Hawkes Prairie for 9 years. When my husband takes the car in he doesn't have problems. Am I being taken advantage of or do I need to find another shop. read more

I had to give Hawk's Prairie Automotive a One Star because of a ​lack of integrity. I had a scheduled appointment with an estimate. When I arrived, the guy up front (whose name is also mentioned in several other reviews) told the mechanic in front of me that if the work exceeded what the perceived problem was, he was to come back and tell him. Then the front desk guy told me I'd be charged accordingly. Fair enough. I went out and watched the mechanic from outside the work bay. Within several minutes the mechanic came out to me and explained the problem. He said it was an easy fix and he took care of it on the spot. When I went back in, the front desk guy tried to charge me more than the original estimate and I had to remind him. I paid up. When I left I was on a real high, thinking this is great, I'm back on the road. Then it hit me as I was driving down the road... "Wait a minute... front desk guy wanted to adjust the costs when the job might be larger​. Again, fair enough. But when the job turned out to be a big nothingburger, he still charged me for the initial, perceived larger job." Front desk guy had bent me over and not only that, I'd thanked him for it and smiled as I drove off. I give the honest mechanic Five Stars. I give front desk guy One Star. In any case, I can't go back to a business that is so dishonest upfront​. I've already been recommended two other repair shops in this area from people I trust. When I arrived, I specifically told them not to open the driver side door because it was already broken and if it were opened it may not shut again. The first thing they did was open the driver side door. Then, they spent most of the time trying to figure out how to make it shut again. They banged and they banged and they banged it until they got it shut. That wasn't even my issue; my issue was with the ring and pinion!! They happily charged me $70.43 to tell me that they would have to talk to "their guy" and see if he was willing to work on the rear differential. After making me wait all day they told me they don't even work on rear differentials. The young punks that worked in the front office denied hearing me tell them to keep the driver's side door shut, then told me they were doing me a courtesy by only charging me half of what they could be charging me for an evaluation of the problem. I would strongly recommend finding somebody else to do your mechanical work because these guys will rip you off. read more

When we moved here from San Francisco to Lacey, this place used to be good. They did good work, didn't overcharge and the staff was courteous. In the last year, I don't know what happened...they lost good staff,. The seat on the driver side would not heat up..They said "it was electrical" and would cost $500.00 to fix. We did pay this, as the lights were also staying on inside the car when the doors were shut]. After paying this, the lights still would not shut off and the heating of the front seat wasn't really fixed. This last time, in December 2020, when we brought my car in [as it has 'died' & need a 'jump' @ Fred Meyers] they quoted us $900.00 !!! for an altenator and new battery !!! Our friend told us to take it to another place, and the cost was $350.00 !! DO NOT GO HERE... They are a total RIPOFF GARAGE, THE STAFF IS NOT FRIENDLY AND THEY DO TERRIBLE WORK !! read more

I have had horrible experiences here. They do not know how to service German vehicles, especially BMW's. I had my gas gasket replaced here and it ended leaking and giving me problems. They overprice services and are honest nor ethical. Try any other mechanic shop in the Lacey area but avoid Hawks Prairie automotive. read more

If I could do -star I would!!!! Idk what has changed but this place is awful. Had my car towed over from Costco across the street. $90. Then they ran a diagnostic $125. The starter is bad. The repairs are estimated at $800.!!!!! Ok get back up off the floor!! The co-owner/service manager has no social skills, just above Sasquatch. I said no to the repairs, I would be coming for the car. Apparently upon hearing this, the entire shop packed up and closed two hours early. I showed up to retrieve my car, it was unlocked, and the ignition turned so the battery was draining. Nice touch. I locked the car, cancelled my new free tow truck. Until today, came in to pick up my car, Sasquatch was a little slow moving. Said they needed to put my car back together!! What?! I said put the pieces in a bag if you have to I'm taking it elsewhere. Paid my bill, asked for my keys!!! Never again!!! read more

I asked for a certain item to be fixed. They told me it didn't need fixing BUT another item did at a cost of $550.00. They supposedly fixed that item ONLY to have what I needed fixed torn up the next day. Took it back the next day they wanted another $700.00 to fix what I asked them to fix in the first place! Last April 2023 I knew I needed to get the timing belt in my Tacoma replaced. I had the work done at Hawks Prairie Automotive for nearly $2,000.00. I thought I would be good for quite a while but by the time of my next oil change I had several oil leaks presumably coming from the camshaft seals. I took the truck back to Hawks Prairie (now November 2023) for diagnosis and they confirmed that the oil leak was coming from the camshaft seals and valve cover gasket. It was now going to cost $1,394.57 to repair it. Other mechanics that I've talked to have stated it is standard practice to replace camshaft seals when the timing belt is replaced. Hawks Prairie did not do this resulting in having to redo the entire disassembly of the timing belt assembly to replace the camshaft seals at great cost to me. I had the work done at a different repair shop and am so glad I did since the valve cover gasket was not a source of the leak but limited to the camshaft seals. Hawks Prairie Auto was going to charge me $546.00 to replace a valve cover gasket that was not leaking. It still cost me over a $1,000.00 to have the seals replaced when it should have been done the first time when replacing the timing belt. Hawks Prairie Auto does not know what they are doing or ???????. I will never have any work done at Hawks Prairie on any of my vehicles again. read more

My passenger side blinkers don't work, even after replacing bulbs and fuses by myself. They told me an hour to diagnose the electrical issue on my smart car. I left for an hour and came back. I'm a single mom and full time student on a fixed financial budget limit time. I come back to them telling me that they didn't get around to looking at anything but that they saw my taillight was out and it was going to be $32 because they replaced the bulb. I told them they just lost my business and they acted confused because they said they didn't know if it was an eclectic problem. I told them the blinker bulbs were new and the fuses were new but I guess it takes an hour to put in a break light. If you want someone to poach your money come here. I'm sure they offer break light fluid if you ask. read more

I've taken my 1987 Chevy Silverado to Hawk's Prarie Automotive twice now. Once shortly after I bought it and then again this week. The first time I took the truck in was to have some basic work done due to the age of the vehicle. The truck was running fine before so this was preventative maintenance. They appeared to do a nice job and gave the truck the attention it needed. The only complaint was the cost. Not that they are expensive compared to other auto mechanics, just that it is expensive compared the the money I had in my wallet :) This past time the truck's engine was running rough to the point where I could not get the engine to stay running when it was warm. I took the vehicle in to Hawk's prarie Automotive and they diagnosed the problem was related to the distributor. They also noticed a few other problems (throttle cable, radiator, etc). I had them do all the work they suggested and I must say the truck is running better than ever. Time will tell if this continues but it IS 25 years old :) Again, only complaint is the cost. Between these two repairs, the total cost has been about $2600. If the truck were not otherwise in pristine condition, I would probably have been compelled to cut my losses. Anyway, I would recommend Hawk's Prarie Automotive. They did a great job and knew what they were talking about. I'd be overjoyed if the costs were about 25-30% less, but I suppose there is a premium to quality. read more

I've waited a long time to write this review for poor work done on my vehicle in about the last 15 months ago. I originally took my vehicle there due to solid Yelp reviews but my experience was poor. I came in with a busted part, knew the part and told them it was difficult to find. They blew me off and told me they'd look at the vehicle and figure it out. Turns out it was the part I told them and it requires a special order from MOPAR, which I also told them. They had my vehicle for a week due to their incompetence. My second experience was worse. I had an antifreeze leak knew where it was leaking, and they again stated they'd find the leak and they made a repair. This made sense, since you find a coolant leak with a pressure test. Well they didn't replace the correct gasket, which means they failed to do a pressure test on the coolant system. When it leaked again I took it back and they charged me additional labor and parts to replace they part they should have replaced in the first place. I was told it must have just started leaking, which was a lie. They countered that they did the pressure test, but if the mechanic had the vehicle would have leaked anti-freeze meaning either the test didn't happen or the mechanic didn't care. I cannot recommend this establishment. read more

I've been here twice, both for pretty minor problems. Both of my cars are foreign cars (volvo & toyota) and they seemed to have no problem working on them. The pricing seemed pretty fair. They do charge $45 to diagnose problems, which seems a little strange to me. Other mechanics I've been charge for parts and labor and not a flat fee for diagnosing a problem. Overall they fixed my cars and got me driving down the road I usually take my cars to mechanics that specialize in certain makes. I'm new to the area and am still looking for a permanent mechanic. read more

They charged me for replacing a part when the part is still sealed in its plastic in the box it came in. If you question anything expect to be yelled at. They do not care about you or your vehicle. Do not go here. They offer a great deal to have your car towed to them if it doesn't run and that's how they got me to agree to let them fix my car. It was a huge mistake. I don't know why I gave this business another try when the service before was unacceptable. I guess I was hoping for the best for local business. So, my son who was out of state was looking to have his vehicle fixed while he was up here and I foolishly recommended this shop because it was close and open on the weekend. We both figured it to be an easy fix or assessment, being he told them what was wrong with the vehicle. We dropped the vehicle off on Saturday, around 8AM and they said they could look at it and call us. To make a long wait short, we had to call them several times and we were told they hadn't looked at it yet. So, here we are Monday, because they are not open on Sunday. Again, we were told they would call and that they would have it looked at first thing in morning, thus no phone call, we had to call them around noon. Fed up and frustrated, we went to pickup my sons vehicle and was offered a bill for around $90.00 for a "Diagnostic" which clearly there was none. Ultimately, we were offered a bill for $47.71. That amount was for, as quoted on the bill, "customer satisfaction and hazardous materials". We paid said bill and requested the manager to call the next morning. After speaking with the manager, it was clear there was no "Diagnostic" done on the vehicle, other than our diagnosis offered to them. I would have been more satisfied if we could have had our vehicle fixed by a shop who had the time to fix it, rather than be told you can and three days later you don't. The bill may say customer satisfaction, but I'm clearly not satisfied. I will not recommend this local business. read more

First experience with them was good. My driver side window stopped rolling up (the window motor failed after 12 years) and they fixed it in a day. It's working now, but it's not manufacturer parts so the functionality isn't 100%. Not a big deal, but I wish I was told about that ahead of time... Still, professional, quick and solid work. Super fast and super helpful! Thought I had a ball joint busted. Turned out it was the wheel bearings. They made time to get me in today, preformed a diagnostic check on the whole truck free of charge (normally $50), and took 5% off the labor for a mil discount. It was expensive, but that is expected with a wheel bearing so I can't blame them there. Their customer service and speed has won my business and I will be telling all my buddies in Lacey to come here as well. read more

I took my fleet vehicle here today to have tires and new tire pressure sensors installed. I also ask to have the traction control , "ESC" diagnosed. What I got was: tires installed. No pressure sensors replaced, light still on. Diagnoses shows no mention of traction control. Shuttle dropped me off at home no problems. Shuttle to pick me up, called at 11:05pm on way. 11:20pm, got call "we are running 20 minutes late", which turned to an hour and a half, I was left waiting in the rain till 1:00 pm. Asked why the pressure sensors were not replaced. Was told it was a miscommunication. I told them I told the person I booked the job with AND the person I handed the keys to when I checked it in. Was told they could do it, but it would take a few more hours and another charge. This is my small business vehicle! I lost the entire day to a 1 hour job! To summarize this was a waste of time and money. I'll never be back. Stay away! I should have gone to Midas. read more

Worst auto shop on the world! They over charged me to have my water pump and timing belt replaced! Then seven months later I needed the water pump replaced again as it was leaking! I had already moved out of state by this time, and no one had ever mentioned that their warranty was good nationally and not just locally at their location. Given that this is not a national company it would be logical for one of their employees to have mentioned this at time of purchase! Now they are refusing to honor the warranty or grant a refund for the work that had to be redone! DO NOT GO HERE! Run far, run fast. Quoted $80ish to have our car towed in, charged $125. Told that's what the tow company they called charged, but no invoice from tow company. Paid for an hour of diagnostics on Miata for $125, not outrageous. They however recommended $2700 worth of repairs including a complete rear brake rebuild, thanks but I'll verify for that kind of money. Paid my almost $300 for tow and diagnostics and went to a recommended repair shop in Shelton, no rear brakes needed. I did have this repair shop fix a few things for a very fair price. Very friendly staff. My only complaint is that it has taken two extra days (from original estimate) to finish my husband's car both times we've gotten repairs there. That is annoying to say the least. They have a 5% military discount which is cool, that has saved us a tiny bit of money (it's only good toward labor). Overall we are happy with their work which comes with an 18 month/18,000 mile warranty and is good all over the U.S. Which is valuable to us because we expect to be moving within a year. They also have a popcorn machine in the waiting area which keeps our kids occupied while we are paying the bill. As far as cost goes, their quotes are less than other places we've been (including the Firestone at Ft. Lewis). read more

Took my vehicle in to get my oil plug replaced. The next morning after I got it back there was a puddle of oil on my garage floor. Took it back and they said I needed a new oil pan for $1200. Took it to another mechanic and they tightened the oil plug and haven't had any problems since. read more

So, I got my oil changed here about a month and a half ago. I took my vehicle to a different mechanic today and I came to find out that the oil filter wasnt changed and it looks like only half of the old oil was removed and they just added to it. I am livid. Unless you've got $ and time to burn, recommend you go elsewhere. In trying to diagnose issues with my car, I ended up taking it to Hawk's Prairie and a couple other local repair shops. Hawks Prairie charged me nearly $200 for just under 1.50 hrs to diagnose issues with my car and presented me with a comprehensive list, although I specifically told them the two things I wanted checked. Their all-inclusive estimate included many items not identified by the other shops (all which provided a free estimate, BTW), with a price tag nearly 3x what the others estimated. The technicians do excellent work, but management could be better. I used to go here for oil changes and repairs. What has turned me off is everytime I get a verbal estimate for a repair, like a clutch in a mainstream domestic car for instance, they quote me one price, then after I drop off the car, and 30minute later, the manager calls to increase the estimate, for no other reason than essentially not giving an accurate/honest estimate the first time. They have done this several times, I believe it may be their SOP. Also, they keep your car for a long time if it's a weekend and they get busy. I've had to wait almost a complete buisness day for an oil change. read more
