I used to like this place but have recently been let down big time. Service, management, and ownership have all been let downs. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a single server to take my group's food order. I approached a server for a menu on the patio and she rudely directed me inside. Somebody with an extra menu overheard this conversation and offered me their menu. I then approached another worker who told me he couldn't take my order... I asked if he could take our order and he just said "no" without re-directing us to another server or sending another server out to help us. I shouldn't have to chase servers down simply because I am not seated at a table. There was a large party standing next to us on the patio that was approached, had their order taken, and received their food. We stood right next to them yet we were never approached to have our order taken... I am very disappointed in Haymaker's service. I can't comment on the food, since I only drank there. The $2 margaritas were good for the price, the service was fast, and there were a lot of people there. Being adventurous, I tried the Beer-Rita on special for $3 and it was what I thought it'd be; a cheap beer and marg mixed together. In the future I'd stick to the $2 margs and eschew the beer-rita. I noticed another reviewer, Amber, enjoyed seeing all the hot guys there; While I didn't share her same love of the men present at the bar, I will say there were a fair amount of cute women there! ;-) I'd return there in the future. read more

I like the poutine here but ugh, the service. I've been left waiting up to half an hour before for a server to materialize (at around 5pm when it's pretty quiet). Tonight was the final straw when I found a hair in my food and tried to let the waitress know. She asked me to repeat myself four times, then got all offended and snapped at me for repeating myself (?!), then stormed off and was bitchy for the rest of the meal. The haymaker is delicious, and I highly recommend. Unfortunately, I have tried several other entrees and none of them have been above average. Haymaker Pub is one of my favorite places in East Austin. The first time I went, I had HORRRRRRIBLE service, but then again they had just opened up shop. I'm very glad I went back and gave them a second chance (Reason being is that the Haymaker sandwich is one of the greatest things I've ever eaten). The service has been great also. Great place to watch sporting events as they have TVs everywhere. Also they have a big screen in one room where I can go watch my beloved Steelers. Plenty of outdoor space and seating also which is fantastic. The only issue is the parking, it's a very small lot. read more

Well I want to give more stars, as I like Haymaker, or maybe the potential of what it could be. We like the outdoor patio space, the selection of beers, the chill vibe, kids and dog friendly, location, tvs for games, crawfish when in season. I don't like to rip places on yelp, rather I speak with management directly. But I just don't think it would matter and feel Haymaker will continue to be average due to the following. 1) high turnover. Every time we come (about 5 times over the past 1 1/2 years) we have a new waitress. The first time we came we asked about the happy hour and our waitress told us that bombers were two dollars off so we chose one. When we got the bill our bomber was $24, not the happy hour we had anticipated. It would've been ideal if our waitress had been informed enough to let us know that price. Which leads me to 2) no prices on the beer menu. Hundreds of awesome beers and no prices. 3) the POUTINE. I like poutine and theirs is pretty good, but it keeps getting smaller with every visit. This time I could see most of the plate. It is fries and gravy. I mean fill up the plate, I'm a skinny girl but it's just a cheap beer food dish that you should get full on. I went here a few months back because I heard it had poutine, which I'd always wanted to try, and by some stroke of luck my friend from Canada was in town. I decided to drag her along with me to validate the authenticity of the poutine, as she can be quite picky when it comes to food. It passed her taste test(only complaint was there needed to be more cheese), and we had the country-style poutine as well which was good! My boyfriend got the Haymaker burger and it was also very good. Horrible greasy generic bar food. Place stinks inside, food isn't anything to write home about... Austin is a food town and this place is just straight up generic and greasy. My french fries were soggy, not all that warm, and just tasted like grease. Seems out of place... far enough away from campus that it should be judged by the adult restaurant / bar criteria, but it just felt so much like college dive bar. Waitresses were really cute. Went for beer and poutine, my wife and I were the first two to sit at at long table and we were soon joined by 4 other which left space for the two people we were expecting to join us. A couple of minutes later someone came by and slapped a "reserved" sign on our table and told us we had to leave in an hour. Imagine how irritating it is to come to a place where it is first come first served on tables but they are willing to slap down reserved signs and tell you to leave. Fuck everything about this place. It's all down hill. Thought to give Haymaker another shot since the last couple of times it's been lousy. Well, not much has changed. There was very little crowd here for lunch. Service started ok and then never saw her again. There is a timing to food service and there isn't any here. Food took twenty minutes and was luke warm. I ate it 'cause I was hungry. This is a cool bar for happy hour in east Austin on manor road. I went here this summer for happy hour and really enjoyed the margaritas on the outdoor patio. They have plenty of picnic tables so it's fun to make friends with your fellow drinkers. Also very dog friendly. Then inside they have a few pool tables and tvs. Just a perfect setup. read more

But today after I arrived your "female white manager" blue dress around 1645 hours approaches my vehicle after "eyeing" me out. Little did I know it was because Where I parked In a handicap parking spot...authorized by VA doctor and the TxDMV. She quickly hurried as she was a hawk waiting for me to make a move. She had the audacity to ask me if I were handicap and why I was parked in a handicap spot. I told her before she jumps on somebody to make sure she is knowledgeable about placards or DV plates. She has no clue. I also asked her if she was a police officer brocade she acted when we parked there. This was an amazing experience we encountered. This is a great place to grab a beer, watch a game, or just hang out with friends. It's become a regular spot for me due to their consistent level of service. The Oregoner sandwich is my favorite, I keep coming back to it. Especially with their sweet potato fries on the side. Their specials can be super excellent as well, definitely hear about those if you're going there for food. The bartenders and staff are generally really nice and accommodating. During the SEC baseball semi-finals, they looked up the game schedule and the channel my team was playing on and made sure it was playing on a TV near me. read more

Went to haymaker following a July 4th party. Was looking forward to some additional drink and grub. Asked a waitress about being seated and she instructed us to grab any table outside, which we did. We sat for about 8-10 minutes without being greeted, so we snagged another staff member walking by - she said she would send someone over. After another 10mins or so, we walked out. I never thought I'd rate Haymaker 2 stars. Went a few times last year to watch sports with friends and always enjoyed the experience. But went in for lunch today and....the experience was poopy :/ I ordered a burger on Texas toast. Cut it in half - and the patty only covered one side of the sandwich. The fries were mostly burnt, small portion that looked like it was tossed in as afterthought. I think our server was new or wasn't feeling well because she forgot about us.....it was just a poopy lunch experience. My friend and I only have 1 day a week off and we won't be coming back here for a chill, yummy meal. :/ read more
