Haymarket Metro is one of the stations serving Newcastle city centre on the Tyne and Wear Metro system, it is located in Haymarket, close to the bus station and Northumberland Street. It is in a decent, central location and is the nearest metro station to places such as Newcastle University. As a station, it is slightly old-fashioned in parts, although some parts are slightly newer, having some work done around 2009/2010. There wasn't a huge staffed presence at this station, some parts, before you got to the main platform, seemed to have not changed much in the refurb, so this wasn't the greatest, nicest or brightest metro station in parts, which is a shame. I'm struggling to comment further - this metro station is probably below average, but in a decent location. Would it be missed if this station wasn't here? Probably because of the need for a metro-station in the Haymarket area, which is close to the University and the City centre of Newcastle/Northumberland Street, hence warranting at least a two-star rating. read more

At the moment I rate this metro station with two stars only since it is on ongoing maintenance and renovation thus imposing difficulty for the metro users, especially during the evenings when regularly most of the work is carried out. Since the Heymarket market station is located in one of the busiest areas in Newcastle and next to Newcastle university it has all the necessary facilities: 3 escalators ( the third recently placed), elevator and kiosks. The way to the platform is very steep so the use of escalators is essential. It is cleaned regularly and is very well lit at night time. The big advantage is the regular service. read more

It's so unfortunate that Haymarket Metro is undergoing a refit which means it is closed completely at sometimes. Which means the metro will not even stop here, this is unfortunate because it is in the centre of Newcastle. It is situated at the top of Northumberland street and is the closest metro to both universities (Northumbria and Newcastle). It does have kiosks for purchasing tickets and travel cards, as well as answering queries. I have no idea what it'll be like when it is finished but at the moment it is disappointing. I advise not bothering to go near it on a Sunday or in the evenings as it is generally closed. read more

Haymarket Metro station is currently undergoing a large scale renovation and is thus (at the moment) in a state of repair. The station is sometimes closed on weeknights and weekends. When it is fully open it is a great station with very prompt metros every few minutes. There is also a large newsagent upstairs and a Nexus store to purchase metro or bus passes. Haymarket is at the top of Northumberland Street (Newcastle's busiest shopping street) which is very handy. Once the renovation is complete I imagine the new and improved Haymarket will be excellent. read more

Haymarket metro is conveniently situated in the centre of Newcastle. Close to universities and bus station. Haymarket metro looks like a tube station as its very round inside. The station is fairly clean and tidy however there is usually no staff about if you need assistance which can be annoying if you need help. There is a Nexus travelshop however where you can ask general infomation and get maps and renew passes ect. Trains are fairly frequent running every 3 minutes at peak times and every 6 minutes off peak and every 8 minutes after 7pm. read more

Haymarket metro is located at the end of the town centre shops, and is the closest metro stop to Newcastle University and parts of Northumbria University. It looks like a giant drum with brown metal and a circular glass frame. It is quite worn down and dated, but well lit and safe. Video cameras cover all public areas, and there is a lift for disabled access. There is a central ticket office for paying fines and buying season tickets, as well as a small newsagents and a sweets kiosk. While Newcastle metro does not require you to put a ticket into the machine to get to the platform, there are often inspections both within the station and on the train. read more
