The quality of instructors has a quality mix to it, but most were very good. Also, if you like an instructor, you can try to schedule more lessons with that specific instructor, which was helpful. It can be difficult to find lessons when and where you want, but if you book far enough ahead of time, you can generally find several reasonable options. General communications: Every time we called the company for help, they were very responsive and always friendly. Overall, I would say our experience was very positive, and I would use them again if I need to and would recommend them.

There is nothing open. You can't get a license without completing the 6 hours of instruction, but it's impossible to do. We've been on a waiting list for months and have yet to get an appointment. I wonder if I'm going to have to file suit against them since they can't complete their end of the agreement.

The first time I signed up, I was told I would receive a Zoom link for the online classes. That link never came, and I was dropped from the class. I then decided to contact Sam's Driving School to let them know about their mistake. In the end, the very rude lady I spoke with on the phone refused to give me a refund, so as a "compromise," my classes were just rescheduled. Today (6/29/2026) was supposed to be the start of classes once again. I have the link, I join the class, and I happily wait. The camera on my laptop wasn't working. I tried everything I could-and I mean everything to turn my camera on. Panic ruptures throughout my body; the host tells me I will be dropped from the course (AGAIN) if my camera is not on. In the end, I was not able to get my camera working. Later, I discuss the whole ordeal with my sister, who then checks Sam's Driving School's policies. On the website, there is a section that goes over what could get a student dropped from a class- lo and behold, nowhere does it say having your camera off is an offense. Sam's Driving School is lazy, sketchy, and pathetic. Never in a million years would I ever recommend this hog house to anyone.

Before my lessons with Mr. Ish, the only driving experience I had as a 36 year old was some parking lot practice, and a one hour lesson with a different school (which I didn't think was very helpful so I didn't continue). I took 5 lessons of 2 hours each (10 hours total) with him and found him to be an incredibly patient and supportive instructor. I had a lot of anxiety going into the whole process, and his calm presence always put me at ease and made me more confident. When I would make a mistake like making too wide of a turn into a streeet, he would point it out but also ask me why I did it that way. It felt like he really wanted to get to the root of the issue to help fix it. In the case of turning too wide, we realized that I was misjudging the distance of my car from the parked cars on the street. This thoughtful approach really helped diagnose and correct issues as they came up and it was so satisfying to visibly see myself improve. His approach to teaching parallel parking was super clear, and I was able to confidently parallel park during the test, and have now also done it in relatively tight spots on DC streets! He also recommended doing a last lesson right before the test in the Deanwood neighborhood (where the DMV test takes place). This was great advice, and Mr. Teddy accommodated me for a pre-test lesson on short notice. I used the school's car for the test, which was helpful since I was familiar with it. The day of the test there was a really long wait at the DMV and Mr. Teddy waited with me patiently and was also really supportive. All the communication and reminders from the school about lesson times, locations were timely and clear, Mr. Ish was always on time for picking me up, and it was just a seamless experience end to end.

He was well prepared and passed the road test on the first try with "no errors ". My grandson is also a great driver, so I can definitely say the lessons were worth every single penny spent. So many driving schools in the area are corrupt- they take your money, take your student for a quick drive, and issue them their license, just to rack up as many students ($$) as possible, and your child/student learns nothing. That is definitely not the case with Ashburn Driving School! Mr. Tulloch is extremely thorough and he takes his job seriously and we could not be more thankful. By the time our students completed Mr. Tulloch's sessions, they were much more informed and very confident that they could handle any situation they come across on the roads. We all know the Ashburn area is not an easy place to learn to drive, so why would anyone want to take a shortcut with those other driving schools? I mean, you are taking the lives of your children in your hands if you have not prepared them as best you can, and that is why Ashburn Driving School was the only choice for us. Mr. Tulloch really cares about your kids and he wants to see them become good drivers, so he runs them through a battery of tests and lessons such as learning how to evade trouble by taking the car off the road, then getting the car back on the road. No other driving school is this thorough, I can promise you that. We all want our kids to be safe, it is scary enough to be the parents of teen drivers, so it is best to give them the best instruction possible and to our family, there is simply no other choice. Called the office to explain exactly the driving skills we wanted the instructor to focus on and asked them to note that with the instructor. We arrived early at the Bethesda office. Office was closed with a sign saying their instructors will meet you there if you have a scheduled lesson. When the lesson time came and went, I called the first posted phone number, which was out of service. Not a good sign. The second number was answered, and we were then contacted by the instructor who had parked on the street outside -- the first of multiple communication issues. The instructor had no idea why we had scheduled a lesson. Compared to "the competition" in our area (the one with ex-cops, which we previously used), the instructor was unfriendly and unwelcoming --- not a good thing with a new, un-confident driver. After the lesson, my daughter told me that the instructor hardly gave her feedback while she was driving, gave her turn and other directions at the last second, and told her to slow down instead of speeding up to be closer to highway speed when she was merging onto the highway. When she first entered the car, the instructor was playing loud talk-radio. When my daughter asked if he could turn it off (at least she had the sense not to be playing talk-radio during a driving lesson); he turned it down, not off, until she asked again. I don't expect miracles from a driving school, but we know from experience that Habesha's service and professionalism was far below the competition.

My parents took drivers ed for free in school and they told me about the simulators. But most schools no longer do that and have farmed it out to the private sector, which is where we all get ripped off. That said, this one was more useless than others my friends told me about. The instructors would repeat themselves ad nauseum, and it was difficult to stay awake. 30 hours of instruction could be whittled down to 5 or 6 hours easily. Then when it finally came time to schedule in-car sessions, the only available times were early in the morning. Who wants to wake up at 6 a.m. to drive? And the instructors were late and would have us run errands. If you have to do this to get a license, which we do and that is THE problem, shop around. At least find one with accessible driving times.
