My friends and us were looking for a place to hang out around the area and came across this really…read morenice public market in Emeryville. We initially didn't know there was free parking in a nearby parking structure until our friends told us, but luckily we found free street parking around the area for two hours. First impression walking in was how clean the whole place felt. I also liked that there were so many different vendors and cuisines for us all to choose from. Whether you're craving Korean Food, Japanese Food, Peruvian Food, American BBQ, Burgers, or pretty much anything else, you'll probably find something here. Honestly, a lot of the vendors caught my attention because what they offered looked really good. We also spotted a cashew based ice cream shop, which was perfect for dessert after our meal. I also liked how everything was indoors too, especially since it keeps people sheltered from the weather on hot days. Another thing I appreciated was the amount of tables and seating made available. It didn't feel stressful trying to find a place to sit, and we were here on a Sunday. As we walked through the market, I thought the layout was designed really well. The way everything was set up made the place feel a lot bigger and more spacious than it actually was. I thought that was pretty smart. The bottom shelf had a messy pile of a mixture of the two when I arrived (this cart was not labeled at all except the price saying each card was 3 dollars). The top shelf, I later found out, was a very messy loose pile of postcards and photos with one side having a semblance of rows. After looking through the bottom of the cart for about ten minutes, the old owner came out and told me I was not putting things back in the right place (again, not labeled or put in boxes or dividers or anything) and to never return to the store. I was so confused at the aggressive interaction and blame for a mess I did not know to avoid and did not cause. At least not on my own. I even put back cards I didn't touch after he yelled at me just to leave it a little better than I found it. It was such an odd, bizarre interaction and I'm okay never returning after that. You should check out all the one star reviews on Yelp and Google about this sad, immature man and how his responses are essentially "nuh uh!" I have no problem with the cashier who was very nice and I would be more than happy to keep a retail space as-is and not be causing extra trouble, but there was no organization to be had to start with. We got there maybe 20 minutes before closing so I didn't get to explore the way I would like, but I really dug the book section. Hard covers are two dollars and soft covers are one dollar. They're arranged by color which I thought was very visually appealing. It was easier to look through the titles that way. I'll be going back soon to check out the store a bit more and I'll update my review accordingly. I'm totally happy with my book purchases.

Unlike some resale stores where the racks are crammed together, there's actually room to browse and look through the inventory comfortably. A huge plus is that you can join the selling waitlist from your phone before arriving. My tip: wait until there are only a couple of people ahead of you before heading over so you don't spend extra on parking. I've also sold at the College Avenue location and found Shattuck to be a much better experience overall. Parking was easier, the store felt less crowded, and I thought the men's selection was noticeably stronger. There are lots of consignment options these days, but I received a good amount in store credit for my son's clothes and left happy. I'll definitely be back.
