Lovely romantic dinner, served in our cabin. (They gave us the wine as a super kind gift for our anniversary, they made it here!)

Wow!! They have really gone above and beyond to make our stay special and enjoyable!! Our anniversary trip had to be canceled due to COVID-19, and we decided last minute to book this cabin. We shave both been blown away by the level of special touches and accommodation they have made, and enjoying our time so much that I'm writing this review from the cabin!! They even added special touches to make our anniversary extra special. We are also here during COVID and very confident that everything is clean and well taken care of. I cannot recommend this place enough, easily the best place to stay in Zanesville! We will definitely be rebooking!

We stayed in Room 2 on the second floor, very handsomely appointed in aqua and coffee tones, with silver accents. The room was lovely and very comfortable, both the bedroom and the en suite bathroom. I enjoyed reading a book in the chair by the window. The backyard was another highlight. There is a small deck, a fireplace, an English-style walking garden, and a main seating area with candles and comfortable camp chairs. In warm weather, it's perfect either for unwinding or for extending a gathering at the end of the day. Apparently the proprietor brings food in the morning? I was not awake in time to witness this; perhaps it is the breakfast fairy. In any case, the spread was noteworthy: besides the drinks, snacks, yogurt, fruit, and cereal available around the clock, there were uncooked eggs, miniature bagels, coffee cake or banana bread, and a variety of seasonal fruit. No matter how heterogeneous your group, everyone will find something to satisfy him- or herself. Sometimes it's the little things--such as the rubber duck in the shower stall, the small fish tank on the kitchen counter, and the soft jazz CD playing in the living room on our arrival. There was a basket of highly watchable DVD movies and a shelf of local-interest books. But the important things stand out too: the entire place was immaculate and the proprietors seem to take good care of both the property and the guests. This is a very strong 4.5. Some of our housemates were staying there for the third time, and I would not hesitate to return with them next time.

The kitchen has filtered water from the fridge, keurig coffee, microwave, and dishes. There are snacks like popcorn, crackers, yogurt, and cereal available all day. In the morning, they put out a fresh pastry (different and delicious each day!), toast, beautiful fresh fruit, and hard boiled eggs. The room had a hair dryer, bar soap, makeup wipes, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. We also had a smart tv so I could log into my own Hulu account. There is a pretty park and lots of little shops and restaurants within walking distance, including a major grocery store. Could not have imagined a better place...I wish I lived there!

So after a quick Yelp search of lunch near me, the first hit was Olde Towne Cafe and Inn which had five stars. I decided to check it out. I have to say I drove right past it! I was expecting for something a bit more store-fronty this really looks like a house and I missed their signage. I turned around on Rail Street... got distracted at Porters but within five minutes was back on track to Olde Towne. They have a small parking lot which had a space, so I eagerly parked and popped i side. It is super cute. Very farm house-ish. Definitely a old house converted i to a bed and breakfast with most of the downstairs rooms dining. The kitchen can be seen from the room I sat in. It looked very clean and organized. I browsed the menu and decided on pancakes. They are served with bacon or sausage.... Im not a huge meat eater so I chose bacon and crumbled up on the pancake.... Ended up pushing it off the pancake and not eating it. Not their fault. Bacon is fine but Im just liking bacon less and less. Today was a no bacon day. Lol. However the pancakes! Wowzers. Huge. Fluffy. i got two that were each almost as big as the oblong platter they were served on. I couldnt finish all of it. They were delicious. I see why people give this place a good rating. The staff was welcoming and make you feel at home. Its just a good old fashioned breakfast/lunch spot. Not bougie at all... which to me is a plus "not" to be bougie. Sometimes you just need a place that feels like home. This is that place.

That solution was found here- a delicious bowl of steaming hot homemade cauliflower and cheese soup. And I paired that with an incredible grilled cheese. I felt like I was sitting in a warm country kitchen. The place was decorated tastefully and warmly for the season. I will have to come back and check out their other soups. I loved the whole experience here and think I will come here often!! And the service was as warm and friendly as the atmosphere! Hats off to this comfort food jewel!

Whistlestop is located at the end of a dirt road (literally off the beaten trail), so don't be too worried if you wonder if you're going the right way--keep going back the road and it's just over an old rail line. The B&B is the basement of an old farm house and the room is spacious. As Brian mentioned, the room had a queen size bed, couch, working fireplace, pool table, kitchenette, and private bath. The owners, Sherry and Mike, were a delightful couple and we had a chance to peak into their beautifully renovated kitchen and meet their lovable boxer, Lucy. Tons of snacks to pick from, but easily the best were the homemade sticky buns and chocolate chip cookies. Sherry stocked the fridge and pantry with breakfast items for the next day (yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, breakfast bowls). Brian enjoyed a couple rounds of pool while I feasted on several hours of HGTV's "Property Brothers" on the biggest flat-screen TV I've seen in someone's house (60-inch?). The bed was cozy, covered with beautiful colored linens, and I think if you wanted to leave the blinds open, you could wake to a beautiful sunrise amongst the nearby trees. I woke up early Sunday morning to do a bit of reading and enjoy a cup of tea by the fireplace. Perfection. Since we were there in late March, we didn't get to enjoy this amenity, but there is a fire pit so you can make some s'mores (yes, they provide all the fixings for that too). I need to ask Brian when we can go again...it was a great weekend to unplug and just relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of Columbus. (although, they have free Wifi, just in case you need it :) )

We decided to give it a shot seeing as how it was in a prime location and you just could not beat the rates when compared to the chain hotels. The following is a review of our stay in this charming accommodation. After a smooth flight from Orlando, we were greeted by our hosts who provide free round trip shuttle service to the local airports. Their adorable dog, a dachshund named Patti, keeps you company on the ride..(here's a tip, she loves to curl up in a travel pillow so if you have one, make sure to share!). When we arrived at the bed & breakfast we unloaded our bags and were led to our room. We had chosen the 'Basement Oasis' room as it was their largest suite complete with full bath and mini bar. There was definitely plenty of room for us to settle in and not feel cramped as you so often do in typical hotel rooms. Everything was meeting our expectations until we opened the media cabinet only to discover that our television had a screen not much larger than my smart phone. Thankfully I had brought my iPad along on the trip or things could have gotten ugly pretty quickly. We unpacked our things and headed upstairs to chat with our hosts before heading out. We were informed that there was an abundance of baked goods for us whenever we were hungry..I highly recommend the apple pie! Our hosts even informed us that they had an extra vehicle for us to borrow if we felt so inclined. Naturally, we took them up on this offer. In return we helped them put up their Christmas tree as a thank you for such a kind gesture. We even offered to cook a meal for some friends & family of theirs and ours..boy, did that guest list get long quickly! It was quite a success and everyone had a lovely time. Our trip was wonderful filled with lots of family time and meeting my boyfriend's nephew who was by far the cutest and best part of the entire trip! On our last day we were met in the morning with a lovely breakfast and a reading of the Christmas story from Good Book. After breakfast we were asked to strip our beds which we felt was an unusual request seeing as how we were their guests but we gladly did so seeing as how kind they had been. We loaded up our bags, exchanged goodbyes & were even given fresh citrus for our flight home. Overall, I would highly recommend this quaint B&B to anyone visiting this area. The hosts have a plethora of ideas for ways to fill your day and don't forget to explore the coupon book for discounts to local eateries! I know we'll be staying here again, so should you!

Cons: - B&B is unstaffed; you have to get keys from a local business. - House is constantly unlocked and does not feel like it is in a safe location (we witnessed someone who wasn't a guest pounding on the front door to be let in). - Hot tub is in a terrible state and seems to exist merely so the B&B can claim to have one. - Breakfast leaves much to be desired and seems to be an effort to check the "breakfast" box off while spending the bare minimum on breakfast. - Nelsonville is not a good location and doesn't have much to offer. In short unless you need somewhere to simply sleep in for cheap, pass on this location. I'd recommend just paying a little bit extra to stay either in Athens or at one of the resorts closer to Hocking Hills.

The Harrison House is one of the few bed and breakfast inns within striking distance of downtown and is situated on the very edge of Ohio State's campus in the neighborhood known as Harrison West (hence the name, Harrison House). The 1890's Victorian home has a great location and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been beautifully renovated to include six rooms that range in price from $129 to $169 dollars. All of the guest rooms have a private bath, queen size bed, cable television and wireless Internet service. Breakfast is included in the price and free parking is available on site- which is a bonus given the street parking in this area is hard to come by at times, especially when Ohio State is in session. I have stayed in loads of insanely beautiful B&B's and have developed super high standards when it comes to these types of accommodations. One minute you're driving along backroads in Ohio and then BAM, you're starting at a medieval castle. Ravenwood Castle is well known for its focus on games of all kinds - board games, social deduction games, scavenger hunts - you name it, they have it. My mom and I came for a special weekend where they were hosting a murder mystery. Put on by a separate company, but hosted within Ravenwood Castle, our murder mystery experience started on Friday night and ran through Sunday morning. We worked in teams to solve the mystery and along the way participated in goofy and quirky games and puzzles to help us score points. When you stay, you can eat on site, or you can book a cabin and bring & prepare food in a small kitchenette. Alternatively, there are a few places you can order from / go out to in the surrounding areas, but nothing is particularly close by because the castle is in a remote area. While I found the food to be mediocre, the beer and whiskey selection is great, and a surprise stand out was their version of butterbeer, which is dangerously chuggable. There is a plethora to choose from as soon as you check in or when you're dining in the pub or premade scavenger hunts to do while walking around the property during your stay. My husband and I aren't board game enthusiasts but we did have a great time at the castle. After checking in we made our way to the King Arthur Suite, a short walk from the check-in desk and through the dining hall. The door to the King Arthur Suite is quite literally in the middle of the dining hall which we personally felt was kind of awkward because it is a prime gathering space for most of the guests. The two story suite was spacious, painted in a funky green and featured a giant jacuzzi tub which was the highlight of the room. A comfortable four poster bed on the second story made us feel like royalty and is close to the door that leads to a porch over looking the grounds behind the castle. My husband made a fire in the large fire pit outside of the castle that is closer to the cabins. The area was stocked with wood and we spent the majority of our evening enjoying a warm fire on the cool fall night. The pub downstairs serves beer and basic bar fare. It wasn't very busy when we stopped by but service was wonderful and we felt very welcome. Another couple proposed the four of us play a game together and we reluctantly obliged. Our patient competitors taught us how to play "Ticket To Ride" and it was a blast. So, in the end, Ravenwood Castle (and our new friends) did turn us into game people.
