Well the first person I met and talked to was Rosemary. I was just going in to check it out but she put me at easy immediately. We decided on a style and she went to work. Second visit to this hair salon and again this Wednesday....It was amazing ! You can't beat this place if you're looking to bring your hair back to life. My first visit my hair was dead and brittle and I just didn't even know what to do with it , after some suggestions from Emily Wyant on some fabulous products , my hair is looking and feeling better than ever just a few months later . This time around I went with a all over color that would just brighten up my face - blonde . It came out beautifully - so evenly highlighted and soft . I recently moved to San Carlos and was looking for a place to get my hair done. After reading some great reviews about Headlines I thought I'd try it out. I booked an appointment with Irina and had a wonderful experience. I have long hair and can be a little particular about my haircuts. She listened and got exactly what I was looking for. I felt very welcome when I arrived for the first time at the salon. I have to say that I felt right at home, and that is something that is usually hard to do, especially on the first visit. Everyone was very friendly, whether working with a client or not, everyone is greeted warmly. I worked with Emily and can I just say "WOW" one more time?! I love the fact they fit me in with less than 2 hours notice right before christmas. I also got a nice perm with Suzie. She just listens to me talk and isn't like the others that pokes you with questions or is talking all the time herself. The perm solution she uses is also a reputable brand that I recognize. She also asked me if I wanted something (drink, magazine etc.) while I was waiting for the perm solution to set in. While waiting for the neturalizer to set in, one other guy stylist passed by and also asking me if I was doing okay. All in all, very nice service, comfortable and clean environment. This is just what I needed in the afternoon of the shortest day of the year!!! P.S. There's plenty of street parking. Get a late appt (after 4:00 PM) so that you can leave your car there without any problems if your session goes on longer than expected. :) read more

She does amazing blonde highlights to make you blonde. I was out with my identical twin sister the night after she did my hair. Sometimes a picture says 1000 words. I walked into this salon on a Thursday afternoon a blonde with some dark roots and dry hair. I thought Emily and I agreed to a conditioning treatment, gloss for shine and smoother texture, a trim, and a style that would incorporate my blonde clip-in extensions. I brought the extensions in to show Emily exactly what I wanted. Three appointments and 4.5 hours later, I walked out with the color and style in the picture--and that's a great picture. I had putrid brown olive colored hair with auburn, reddish roots. When I immediately mentioned this wasn't the expected result, I was told it was fine, "just 1/2 shade off." When I asked what could be done to remedy it, Emily advised me to spend the weekend repeatedly washing it with baking soda, dishwashing soap, and purple shampoo to reverse the dye (AKA: gloss) and lighten it. "It WILL work," she texted. The advice didn't work as she knew it wouldn't. She wasn't available until the following Tuesday to do anything about it, Having to return to work Monday, I had to get it fixed at another salon. After going through all of that, I told Emily what I had to do to fix it and asked for a full refund, still wondering why she wouldn't have immediately offered to do just that in the first place. Instead, she haggled with me about what color my hair is, told me what a great job she did, and eventually promised 1/2 refund that I'm still waiting for. When I asked again for the full refund and compensation for my time, I was asked to come into the salon yet AGAIN. I wouldn't wish my experience with Emily on anyone. If you want to be disrespected, have your hair experimented on without you knowing it, and told what a great job she did ruining your hair while she takes your $, book an appointment with Emily. Expect her to be late so you will need another or even multiple appointments and try your best to smile while she takes breaks to apply self tanner, say hello to friends, answer her phone, stick you under a drier for "10 minutes" only to return 30 minutes later. I hope posting my nightmare experience saves someone else a great deal of time, money, and their hair. read more

I had extremely long, damaged hair and Irina completely transformed it! Before coming in, I had not gotten my hair cut in nearly 3 years. I was terrified because past hair stylist would completely mess up my hair and it wouldn't look anything like I wanted it to. I just moved to the Bay Area and was walking up Laurel Avenue when I suddenly stumbled and fell on the sidewalk. Lying there face down on the ground, feeling helpless and in pain everywhere, I was suddenly in the capable and compassionate hands of Suzie and Jim, who I later learned, are co-owners of this salon. Suzie and Jim stayed with me, held my small dog, rushed back into the salon to bring me ice for my bleeding and swollen lip and nose and then Jim even walked down the street and drove my car back to where I was so I would not have to hobble so far on my injured foot, which, by the way, was already in an ankle and foot support from a recently sustained injury. Not until I assured both of them that I was ok to drive on my own, did they let me leave! Suzie and Jim are the kind of people you'd want as your own friends or neighbors or people running places you frequent. They are genuinely warm, honest, decent, capable, and compassionate, the type of people you feel "have your back" which is a really good and rare thing these days. After reading so many good reviews about this salon, I just wanted to add my own very personal one, not just as a thank you to Jim and Suzie, but also as a commentary about the character of the people running this salon. I know that both my husband and I will soon look forward to becoming their newest patrons. read more

Dana is amazing first off!! I needed a change done to my hair, and I wanted one ASAP! I found this place on YELP, and decided to give them a call. The guy who answered the phone was super nice, and said they had an appointment the next day in the morning. Score! The salon itself is nice, and all the employees are friendly. Dana is the best! She's an awesome person and definitely knows hair! She gave me killer all over super blonde highlights, exactly what I wanted. She cut my hair exactly how I wanted, and trust me, it is so hard for me to get what I want when it comes to hair! I LOVE this salon. I use to go here years ago with my mom but then we moved away and when we came back to the bay our regular hairstylist had already left the salon. Recently I went by to give it a shot after trying many many places looking for someone who could understand what I want (which isn't an easy task i understand). I booked a last minute appointment with Francisca who I just happen to pick by chance from the website. I got a short cut and body wave perm. I have extremely sensitive and fine hair, so I dont just go in for anything unless I've contemplated and worked and reworked the idea of what I want. Needless to say I was pretty anxious to get a perm given my hair condition, but I really wanted a change. Francisca met every single one of my needs; she didn't ignore the fact that my hair was fine and treated it extremely gently. She cut my hair before and after the perm until it was absolutely perfect and even invited me to come in the following week after the perm settled in case I wanted to reshape the cut! For someone who isn't easy to please and has been know to cry after most hair appointments because of an unmet vision, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. read more

I avoid getting my hair cut because I'm a pretty terrible (sober) conversationalist, but Irina was very friendly and chatty and made me feel very comfortable even when I ran out of things to say.
