Tourists beware, upsell pressure. She helped us in a pinch and gave us what we asked for, however we would not go back to her or recommend her to others unless you're truly in an emergency. She was nice at first, but quickly became rude when we wouldn't buy her $800 mouth guard.
Our 13 yo son had a loose permanent tooth and pain shortly after we arrived in Rome. The website was easy to use, she contacted us almost immediately, booked us for 2pm the next day, and then required payment up front by credit card. We asked for an X-ray to see what was going on, expecting to share them with our US dentist before deciding what (if anything) to do.
We arrived about 15 minutes early only to get a message that she had to postpone an hour because she needed to go to the bank. We waited at a nearby park with our 5 kids for more than an hour. She arrived outside her office with four dogs on leashes and multiple bags like a scene out of a movie. She was jovial, if not funny, in her presentation of herself. She's quite a character. Once inside, she gave us the run of her office, letting our kids play with her dogs, bringing me coffee, and letting us use a massage chair while she took my wife and son to another room for the X-ray. Overall, she was very generous and (overly) casual.
However, it all quickly changed. Her demeanor was arrogant, trash talking our US dentist before even examining our son. She did the Xrays, explained his issues, and offered to do a cold test to check his nerves - which we agreed to. When she asked about his pain and we attempted to help him remember what he had told us earlier, she cut us off and asked us to leave so she could talk to "her patient" alone. She then explained that he would likely need a root canal, which caused our son to become upset. Rather than be empathetic, she berated him for being upset and told my wife she was making it worse by consoling him.
She told us he needed a $800 mouth guard, which was something special that she offered that others did not. However we needed to decide on the spot because she would have to convince the lab to make it in 2 days (we were leaving Rome in 2 days) when it normally took 10. I explained we would have to think about it and consult with our US dentist and that's when she started getting really rude. I asked: was this an emergency that needed to be solved today? Her answer was only that she felt bad because our son was in pain, but when questioned... her mouth guard would not stop the pain. I asked: What do patients normally do while waiting for 10 days for this mouth guard? Nothing. They just wait. We would be home in 10 days. So clearly this was not urgent. She said that the mouth guard she made was not even supported in the US. But if that's true, how could we continue to get care for our son in the US? We wouldn't be able to. So it just didn't make sense for us to get this mouth guard. She acted exasperated, saying she'd postponed another patient by one hour because of us. Yet she was an hour late herself? She noticed my wife was texting me and asked us what we were saying to each other. She claimed to have never seen a 13 year old get upset about dental work and suggested there was something wrong with him.
In the end, we left with the X-ray and information we came for, but felt frustrated by the experience. I think her immaturity got the best of her, causing her to be extremely unprofessional and just plain rude. We wouldn't play her game and that made her mad. And while I can't prove it, I suspect she preys on desperate tourists in need of help with a goal of selling them expensive solutions like a custom mouth guard. And I'm sure her mouth guard is legit, but we didn't actually need it. So if you go to her, just know what you're getting into.
By the way, our US dentist was unconcerned with the X-ray, told us to enjoy our trip because it was not urgent. We are home now, his tooth is no longer loose nor is it causing pain. We are seeing our dentist tomorrow. read more
