My next door neighbor alerted to me this place and I'm so glad. I picked up four dining chairs (sometimes they are priced as a package deal with a table, but these were actually priced individually and separate from the table). I thought about getting some sort of lounge or easy chair to read in but I haven't converted to Maine vehicle yet, so my Mazda wouldn't fit it. Next time! A gorgeous coffee table also caught my eye, so that item was also purchased. I had to make two trips, but hey-ho. I think prices are great. Obviously, you're getting used items but isn't there something really charming about having furniture that has been lovingly used? (As long as it doesn't smell like a dirty fart) You could go the route of IKEA and I have totally done so on occasion, but let's admit it, most of that crap is crap. Old used furniture was made with love. I can imagine that prices may have climbed in the past few years, though I only have Chicago Salvation Armies to compare it to, and I think the prices are still better here than Chicago five years ago. Stuff probably comes and goes fairly regularly so don't feel defeated on an initial visit. I will definitely venture back here.

The local news talked about offering a vegan menu at the venue which aligns with her lifestyle. The CalTrain cars were painted/decorated with artwork consistent with her tour promotion posters and banners. The media also mentioned how, throughout her tour, she is promoting various community non-profits and their causes. What actually drew me here was the long line for the souvenir stand and seeing only hoodies and sweatshirts priced at $60 and up. The difficult part is that concert goers may not be wary or observant about your causes. In reading about their cause on their website and emails after the concert, I felt even better about making this contribution to them. I believe that Billie's mom is a director and had a part perhaps in founding this. Keep your eyes on this especially if they support causes that you believe in.

This allows those families to focus on the care of their little without the stress of commuting back and forth from wherever. As anyone with a loved one in, or in and out of the hospital, will tell you: proximity is everything during these particular times. Families have private bedrooms, and while a $10 nightly donation is suggested no family is ever turned away for the inability to pay. There's complimentary wifi, complimentary laundry facilities, and complimentary food*. This house - which is discreetly out in the open (it makes sense) - is always so clean, so homey, so peaceful, so quiet, so welcoming. The staff here are protective of and loyal to the people staying, and that sort of unconditional love is incredibly important given the sensitive nature of what this non-profit does. * = Can't volunteer? That's okay. Consider this: food is medicine (sometimes emotional medicine). The folks staying here need a good, home cooked meal. Gather a group of friends to come be guest chefs for the night. Or, why not make something and drop it off? Let's be the kind of people who stock their freezer, fridge, and pantry with good eats.

I toured ECO Maine today and I must say it is an…read moreamazing place.when you first enter the lot, you notice bales of plastic, metal cardboard and paper. Did you know that there are seven different types of plastic am that can be recycled. I also learned that until recently we shipped all of our bales of paper to China. They aren't taking any paper now, however ECO Maine is hoping they open up again soon, as they are storing all the paper at the plant. bext, We toured the facility itself and what a remarkable place. You see conveyors moving items arond. You see magnets attracting metal. You see air puffing only on certain types of plastic containers separating them. You even see people hand separating the items. My biggest thrill out of all there dynamic machines was the front loader pushing and lifting recycled items onto the conveyor belt. I just brought the kid out of me as I remembered playing with those Tonka Trucks. As the tour wound down I saw where all the trash ends up. It gets put in a hopper that is six, count them, six stories high. There the trash falls into one of two incinerators that heats up to 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit and burns into an ash. Unfortunately, no one has invented a good use for this ash, so it simply gets put in a land fill. This tour has opened my eyes as to how much goes into my recycles and trash once they leave my curb. I will certainly work hard at making sure items end up where they are supposed to!

And they're right across the street from their future home in the old Reny's building. I've gotten to know the people at Engine and some of my works have been shown in their old space. Now I can't wait to see what they do with this newer, larger, and (for me) more convenient space. There's also a FabLab onsite and tons of education opportunities for people of all ages. Want to join a group of people sketching the urban streetscape? Want to expose your 8 year old to 3D design and printing? Engine is what you're looking for.

They also host live music, comedians, and interactive art exhibits which have always proven to be fun. I definitely recommend checking out their schedule of events if you're in the area. It's an art gallery with a really open vibe that makes everyone feel welcome.

A hallmark of many a trip to Southern Maine, the Marginal Way is one of those experiences that…read moretruly captures the beauty of the state. I remember walking the Way as a kid during our annual summer vacations to the area, but it wasn't until I was an adult that In fully appreciated it. So what exactly *is* the Marginal Way? Well, it's a man-made path along the coastline of Maine in Ogunquit. There are several hotels that line this coast and provide views as well as their own entrances to the Way, however the general public also has access via an entry path along one of the main streets. There is really not much to do here except walk along the path and take it all in. The sea air, the rocks, the plants - put that phone down and touch some grass! All the while, you can get some steps in - so it's a win win. Overall, Marginal Way is definitely worth checking out - either by tacking it onto your Ogunquit explorations or visiting outright.

We arrived at 8:15am with plenty of parking available at Obed's Lot ($6.25 per hour), which is near the north entrance to Marginal Way (opposite end from Perkins Cove). After crossing the busy street (Shore Road) and turning right, it's a short walk (3 minutes) slightly uphill before you see the north entrance to the Marginal Way on your left (check Google Maps). For those planning a morning visit to Ogunquit, I had two tips. First, try to arrive no later than 9am during peak summer months. At 8:15am, we had a peaceful experience with some people but not huge crowds. By 9:30am, we saw many groups of visitors walking on the trail. Second, go to a public restroom BEFORE walking on the Marginal Way - which does not have a restroom facility (until Perkins Cove). Finally, dogs are prohibited from the Marginal Way during the summer (April 1 to Sept 30) with a $100 fine for violators. Overall, it's well worth a visit - but expect to see lots of people during the summer!
