We came for my husband's birthday and it did not disappoint! It's always a bit harder for us to find nice restaurants that also can cater to our toddler and Hearth 61 was perfect! She was happy as a clam with her coloring and grilled cheese while we enjoyed some of the yummiest food I have had in a while, with gorgeous Mountain Views in the background. We had the oysters, beet salad, halibut and filet, along with cocktails and wine. Everything was spectacular, especially the birthday dessert platter for my husband! Would absolutely return again, and can't wait to try even more!

Hearth 61 was excellent! Can't find a single issue with the brunch experience there. The food was delicious, well plated, and service was prompt. Atmosphere was ideal located in the back of the resort with ample indoor and outdoor seating available. All the brunch options were delicious but especially the breakfast smoothie. It was tasty and not too sweet. Split that between 2 people along with 2 brunch entrees is enough for a perfect meal. Service is prompt and not overbearing. Beautiful views and quiet resort too!

Had a lovely evening for date night. The live music was such a vibe, drinks were amazing, and the customer service was top tier. The only downside was seeing a small dog drinking from a glass at the bar, which made it a bit hard to enjoy my drink after that. I completely respect service animals, but this felt a little unsanitary. Overall still a really nice experience

WOW ... just W-O-W! Hearth '61, located at the Mountain Shadows Resort in Paradise Valley, was one of the absolute finest Arizona restaurants that I have eaten at in years! It can be difficult to find a stand-out restaurant that uses high quality and decadent locally sourced ingredients in a Metropolitan area like Phoenix, which maintains a plethora of copy-cat mediocre restaurants! Frankly, I had never heard of Hearth 61 or Mountain Shadows Resort until Restaurant Week; probably because it's one of the less well-known and smaller resort properties in the area. Therefore, it doesn't get as much hype as places like the Omni Montelucia or the Phoenician. Hearth 61 is an absolute hidden treasure! We were warmly greeted upon entry and seated promptly by the hostess. Our waitress, Annesa K, was very attentive, personable, and helpful when we asked her questions about different items on the menu; and continually checked in with us throughout dinner service. The service was impeccable and efficient without feeling rushed. I feel like the timing upon bringing each course out was perfectly executed. The ambiance is classy/sophisticated yet warm and inviting -- each staff member that we encountered was very kind and a pleasure to chat with; considering this is a fine-dining establishment. The reasonably priced elegant food was impressive and the portions were generous, given that this a fairly swanky Paradise Valley resort. The pictures don't do the exquisitely plated food presentations justice -- the dishes came out looking like works of fine-art! We ordered the Chilled Strawberry Gazpacho and Spring Salad as our starters. Both were great--the last time I had a cold soup of this caliber was on a Royal Caribbean Cruise; and the ingredients in the salad were sooo fresh, sooo clean tasting--with locally sourced citrus. We ordered the Roasted Swordfish and the Braised Beef Short Rib for our main courses--OMG both were magnificent! First, I'm very apprehensive about how fish is prepared, especially swordfish; because if it's poorly prepared it can taste extremely fishy. But this swordfish was cooked perfectly and after adding a little fresh lemon, I couldn't even tell I was eating fish. Many other places I've ordered short rib from tend to overcook it, or don't trim the beef very well, so it can be fatty. But here, the short rib was one of best I've ever eaten -- it was very lean yet savory and so tender that melted in my mouth--and with the combined flavors/juices from the paired sides ... YUM! The Peanut Butter Banana Chocolate Bombe was the BOMB indeed! This dessert was the perfect icing on the cake after an impressive meal--it totally hit the spot! It was light yet silky smooth and not too sweet! It could possibly be my favorite new dessert ... Each dish was very well-balanced with flavors upon flavors complimenting one another ... The overall dining experience at Hearth '61 was brilliant. The renowned Chef Charles Wiley couldn't have done it any better or made this dinner any more special than he did. In my opinion, this chef is a culinary genius, and I feel privileged to have been able to indulge in his edible masterpieces! Bravo! I will definitely return, and I would highly recommend Hearth '61 at the Mountain Shadows Resort to any fellow foodies that enjoy reasonably priced magically delicious and aesthetically pleasing food perfectly prepared in a posh atmosphere ;)

We had dinner here for the first time last weekend. It was awesome! It was a birthday dinner and we wanted something special. We have been to many events at the resort but have never tried the restaurant. We were told it is a hidden secret. We had a conversation as we arrived that we have not had a restaurant/food experience recently where the food exceeded our expectations. The food was amazing! To get things started we had the Tempura Oyster Mushrooms as an appetizer...incredible! The Pork Shank for dinner was amazing...fall off the bone delicious! The Short Rib Agnolotti pasta was to die for...we fought over the left overs the next day! The fresh beet salad was so refreshing we couldn't stop talking about it! The staff were great! They were so attentive and sweet. They brought a delicious Chocolate Mousse birthday dessert which rounded out the meal perfectly. Needless to say, this meal exceeded our expectations! Can't wait to come back!

We stayed at the resort for a wedding and as far as the resort overall goes it's beautiful! For the food at the restaurant it was good though I felt some of the dishes were missing something. If I were to recommend anything I would say the smoked salmon plate and the garden omelet. Their salmon was surprisingly super good! I also had the avocado toast and was a little disappointed, there was a lot of flavor but my toast was cold so it seemed like i5 had been sitting there for awhile. But the temperature could be personal preference. As far as service goes it was unfortunately really slow and inconsistent at both the bar and restaurant.

Brunch time and it hit all the check boxes for me on a Sunday morning. The spacious restaurant is located in the Mountain Shadow Resort off the lobby. The bar area is vibrant and fun and is an elegant spot for a special meal with friends & family. The decor and surroundings are a throwback to something modern... and if that doesn't make sense, you'll know when you arrive. Brunch menu has lots of great options and is not too overwhelming. I gravitated to the Apple Pie Waffle from the Chef Specials. I was craving something sweet and it hit on all the right notes. It had an apple compote & butter crumble that popped off the texture along with some caramelized cinnamon... Honestly, it didn't really need any syrup. To balance it off, I added 2 eggs w/cheese along with their pork sausage link, a side of fruit (the way a side of fruit should be), and sourdough toast. If staying in the hotel and looking for a great dinner or brunch, you got the right spot. Looking forward to a return trip to both the restaurant and resort.

If you're wanting to splurge on dinner do it here! Every course my wife and I ordered was DELISHIOUS! Each dish was full of flavor. We shared the hiramasa crudo as a starter, I had the pan seared salmon for the main course, and for dessert we shared the piña colada panna cotta. The portions were not "American" sized but I was surprisingly full at the end of the meal. The service was EXCELLENT! Our server provided great recommendations and was attentive all evening. Being able to hear the live music at the bar from our table further elevated our dining experience. Thanks for a great night, Hearth 61!

I'm a local and was ecstatic to find another dog friendly hotel and restaurant to do a staycation. I'll start with the "wins", they are dog lovers and it's a beautiful spot. Rhonda and Mandy were super kind and helpful when the rest of their team and service were falling down based on going there a few times over the course of the days we stayed at Mountain Shadows. Service collectively - 2/10. All 3 occasions I'm basing this on is sitting at the bar between me and two other friends. I showed up solo with my dog on a Friday around 3pm while waiting on the other two to finish up work. There were approximately 8-10 patrons including myself with 3 bartenders. I was immediately greeted by Anna and she immediately gave myself and my dog some water. I waited about 15 minutes while watching other patrons get served a drink that sat after I did so I waved down a bartender to grab my order. Not sure how I was overlooked or even not acknowledged but life happens. No bigs. But from here I was continuously overlooked and the waitress and bar back were the ones that stepped in to serve me after flagging them down each time after not receiving any service from the bartenders. I did speak with the manager (I'm sorry I forget his name!) but he was fantastic. The following morning we all grabbed lunch to watch college football and service was the same. 3 people standing there (although I think one was a bar back) chatting and not acknowledging us until we had to wave them down. For longer than you would assume when sitting smack dab in front of people's faces. The one girl became super helpful towards the end, so maybe we had invisible cloaks on before then? Food 7/10 - the spaghetti squash was uneventful. Added salt and hot sauce and it helped. Wouldn't order again. But the grilled cheese and burger were delicious.

Came here for Valentine's Day and it was perfect for the occasion. All the ladies got greeted with a rose. Good food and ambiance.

While staying at Mountain shadows resort this on-site restaurant was visited by me daily. The wait staff, the hostess, the servers, and the managers all work cohesively to make your dining experience seamless! Eating here, daily from brunch to dinner, and everything in between I don't have a negative thing to say about any of their dishes. Everything was delightful! One day I wasn't that hungry and ordered the grilled cheese thinking that would be something simple just to snack on...I was wrong! It was the best grilled cheese sandwich I've ever had! The butternut squash was creamy, silky, and well seasoned. It came out at the perfect temperature as well. The avocado toast, for breakfast is a must! Thank you mountain shadows for bringing us hearth 61!

Honestly, I have no idea how it got those reviews. Maybe they're paid, I'm not sure, but based on my experience I would not go back. The biggest issue was the service. We arrived and were told to sit anywhere we wanted. After sitting down, we waited about 20 minutes and no one ever came to our table. No greeting, no water, nothing. Eventually I had to walk up to the bar and ask what the procedure was. Do we order at the bar? Do you have table service? No one could give a clear answer. They just kept saying, "If you want, you can order here." That's not the point. If I sit down at a restaurant, I expect someone to come to the table and explain how things work or take our order. If the system is that you order at the bar, just say that clearly so people know what to do. The drinks were also very mediocre. Nothing special at all. Honestly, they tasted like something you could throw together at home with soda, alcohol, and ice. The surprising part is that the food was actually phenomenal. The kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. The dishes were delicious and probably the best part of the entire experience. But great food alone isn't enough to make me return somewhere with poor service and forgettable drinks. My recommendation is don't waste your time on a Sunday brunch. There are plenty of other brunch spots with good food and good service.

Introduction of why here:…read more I was looking at something old from college and saw on old date from college at ASU way back in February 2006. Oddly enough in the wealthiest town in Arizona in Town of Paradise Valley, where the median home price even way back in 2006 was over $1 million. The date here: I had met her at a party at ASU, got her phone #, & went on 2 dates. The 2nd of those 2 dates I suggested the El Chorro Lodge. My friend & roommate told me about the excellent happy hour at this fancy restaurant. Background & History of area: The restaurant itself is a historic relic. Some of the history from the middle part of the 20th century. I didn't realize that El Chorro been around since 1937! In the 1930's, this was all vacant desert land, maybe a couple of farms here or there in what is now in Paradise Valley. In 1934, John C. Lincoln built a resort, Camelback Inn, far out in the desert relative to the small Phoenix area at that time. I assumed Lincoln Drive was named after President Abraham Lincoln. There were no schools in this area, and he built El Chorro, a one-room schoolhouse for his daughters. It was in 1937 that it became a watering hole for the resort as the Camelback Inn did not alcohol, and it was a relatively short dirt road to El Chorro for those "thirsty for spirit and some old-fashioned revelry." In the 1950's, famous people like Clark Gable & Milton Berle visited. Paradise Valley's population was starting to grow in the 50's & 60's. City of Phoenix & Scottsdale were annexing a lot of land during this time greatly growing their cities. Residents in this area were concerned about losing their quality of sustainability and wanted to avoid being absorbed by Phoenix or Scottsdale (as if being Scottsdale would've been so terrible, but compared with Paradise Valley, even Scottsdale is a downgrade) decided in 1961 to incorporate as Town of Paradise Valley. Happy Hour & Experience Here: In spite of being very expensive, their happy hour, which I think was 3-6 PM, was surprisingly a great deal. So, apparently if you brought at least one drink, you'd get a free meal; well it was happy hour food like nachos, sliders, or something like that, but when you're a relatively broke college student, it was a meal! Service was good. I really enjoyed the food, which I could tell was of good quality, even if it was just happy hour food, and I remembered my beer was delicious. My 2026 taste buds aren't into beer; I'll have a beer from time to time, but it's not a top choice. If I was coming here now, I'd probably get a wine, whiskey, or some cocktail these days, but in 2006 college days, I was all about beer! So, her name was Bri, like the cheese, except without the E in brie cheese. On that Tuesday of this date (which just so happened to be Valentine's Day), I got to her house at 3 PM. We enjoyed our free late lunch with the purchase of at least one drink. We talked about music, family, and other assorted topics, and we stayed for about 2 hours; a pretty good time. When I was ready to pay, she said she would pay for me too since she had more drinks than me. By no means was this outstanding, but still with my bad luck with woman, this was my best Valentine's in 6 years at that time. We left the restaurant at 5:36 PM, and I said that I have 4 minutes to get to my 5:40 PM class. She said I should have said something earlier, which I responded I hate that class and needed to be there to sign in for attendance. I had about 10 miles to drive to drop her off at her house on the opposite side of campus. I made it to class about an hour late at 6:40 (it was a 3-hour class; so I only missed 1/3rd of the total time, so not too bad...haha) having to fight a lot of traffic. I had to risk parking illegally nearby for 20 minutes (7 PM parking was unrestricted) to get to class only an hour late! The teacher gave me a dirty look as I was significantly late 3 consecutive times. In summary, a nice atmosphere with good happy hour albeit probably quite different 20 years later.

The place is small and intimate, so a great place to grab a drink while staying at the hotel. I've been here a couple of times and have experienced mostly great service. Overall, it's worth the visit if you're staying at the hotel and you want a nice cocktail.

What looks like free parking in the self-parking area actually isn't. There's a sign that says you have to pay for parking with a QR code. Parking is only free for 30 minutes. I called the hotel to inquire about parking and they didn't answer. After walking to the front desk, we were told that valet is validated at the speakeasy. I'm not a fan of valet, but I'll take free valet service (minus the tip) over paying more for self parking. Now, let's get to the good stuff. As the self-appointed king of speakeasies, I'm back with another one. Ambiance: (4.5/5): I won't give all of the clues away, but walk to the third floor, look for a book shelf, and you're on the right track. Once you get inside, you'll find an intimate speakeasy. We're talking seating for 12 or so people or so, tops. I imagine getting a seat on a weekend is quite tough, so take that into account and make a reservation. When you do, you'll find out that there's a $25 cancellation fee per person if you cancel within 24 hours of your reservation. I understand that no shows negatively impact restaurants/bars, but I absolutely hate when the cost of doing business is passed off on customers. I'm reliable, but if I'm going with someone else, and they cancel, now I'm in a tough spot. Anyways, I loved the ambiance at The Madam. Think dark wood, sophistication, and some cowboy vibes. The seating was comfortable, too. Service (4.5/5): Minus the parking snafu, our bartender did an absolute awesome job taking care of us. She was friendly and attentive throughout. They were perfecting a new drink menu and even offered us two drinks on the house. Which was much appreciated! We were lucky, for sure. Food (N/A): While they do have food, I was on a liquid diet on this visit. Drinks (4/5): When I go to a speakeasy, I'm looking for creativity. You'll find that here for the most part, though I wish the list of craft cocktails was a little larger. There were only two or so cocktails that struck my fancy. I went with the one with green chartreuse, which is always a treat. But, when I'm at a speakeasy, I'm hoping that at least half of the selection intrigues me. Despite the limited selection, the cocktails are well made and have an interesting blend of flavors. The Madam is a true speakeasy (no signage and an ambiance which is true to the history of speakeasies), which makes them a winner in my book.
