I enjoyed a nice dinner night out with friends at this elegant restaurant. Hearth '61 is located at the beautiful Mountain Shadows Resort in Paradise Valley. They have amazing views of nearby Camelback mountain here. Heart '61 serves up modern American cuisine with a focus on the ingredients. We got dressed up and started off with drinks in their bar and lounge area while waiting for our table. The Mezcal Paloma had a hint of spice that mixed well with the smoky flavor of the Mezcal. The bread that came with dinner came with a nice Pesto spread. I kept it light and ordered their Quinoa & Lentil Stew as my entree. It was delightful and tasty. This is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. We come here every single time that we're in Phoenix. I'd say from the regular menu, the tenderloin of beef is my favorite of all time. They also have seasonal specials that include thanksgiving Turkey and Christmas prime rib. Everything has been amazing including their gingerbread cookies. What a gem Hearth '61 is if you are staying in the hotel, and I'm sure if a local. Great atmosphere and the food was enjoyable. Prices are on the higher spectrum, but to be expected in a swankier hotel. I only enjoyed the food in light bite setting and then a full dinner at the bar, and it was all great. From the chips, queso & guac, to the parm fries and cheese plates; all the sort of shareable light bites were delicious. (I'm not actually sure that is even from Hearth '61, FYI). The bigger plates were equally enjoyable. My friend and I shared a bunch of menu items, and without any drinks it was about $35 per person with tip. The roasted mushroom casserole was a nice sized dish and to share; almost like a french oniony type dip that you spread on the delicious bread. I can't remember the salad, but I do remember it being delicious and refreshing, although small. The star was that short rib agnolotti with the ever most delicious horseradish; a reorder for sure. Overall, if you're staying at the hotel, don't skip Hearth '61 and even if you're not, it's a great, low-key, but classy spot with great food. read more

Great for lunch or just to meet for coffee. While the atmosphere is retro modern and the hotel itself is an icon in the history of Scottdale it can be a bit sparse for evening dining. The main dining room has a decor, similar to a cafeteria and the tables and chairs just do not scream Luxury in anyway. It's like being on a patio on the inside. In the summer you'll see patrons at the pool and people in the beautiful lobby. In the winter you'll find golfers on the beautiful golf course and views are spectacular! I think it's a great place to stay if you want a hotel with a beautiful setting and views of Camelback Mountain. It also has quite a reputation as it was the place to go throughout the 1920s to 1960s. It has been renovated, however, it's just not a go to place for dinner. It's a great place for locals to meet though as the lobby is full of different rooms of character and the decor Southwest. You also find a bar that's open all day and is in the middle of the lobby, which makes it very attractive as you see the views outside and the people passing by. read more

We went to Thanksgiving 2022 Breakfast and Dinner at Hearth 61. I'll separate reviews here. Breakfast- I looked up the reservation in the Mtn Shadows website first and then went to Open Table to reserve. Mtn Shadows was advertising $28pp++. Open Table required a prepayment of $34pp++. So I called Hearth 61 to make the reservation at the advertised price of $28pp++. I was still charged the higher amount with no explanation. Breakfast was not too full when we arrived. It was Buffet only. It was the smallest Buffet selection I have ever seen. The eggs were made to order at the station and were good. Even though it was Buffet our server struggled to get easy requests fulfilled for an OJ and butter. But because it's prepaid tip what was her motivation? We returned for dinner with two friends. We were all surprised when we were offered only a high top table or outside patio with heaters. Far too cold of an evening for heaters to help. This should have been disclosed when they again took prepayment of $654 for 4 guests. It is very uncomfortable to sit for over an hour in a high top table and stay upright! One of our friends noted we did not receive bread at the table. It's a pre fix menu so you select everything up front, including desserts. We ordered Fall soup, meatball, and a fish for appetizers. I loved the soup, the others liked their fish and meatballs. We ordered Turkey Dinners and Filet of Beef dinners. When the food was dropped we asked for bread and they said they would bring it. (They didn't mention how long). I actually only ordered the Turkey bc it came with the most sides. The other offerings were sparse. It tasted fine. The stuffing was good. Nobody complained or raved about their filet meals. We did finally receive bread. My friend said it was the best part of her whole meal! Mine too. Too bad we didn't get it until nearly the end of our meals. When we finished our waitress returned to tell us they no longer had the desserts we ordered. Butterscotch Pecan pie. We had no choice but to get one of each of the others. Two at the table ordered coffee. Our desserts arrived but no coffee. 15 mins later no coffee. I flagged down a manager going by and we finally got coffee. I took one bite of the Pumpkin Pie and stopped. It was off putting in flavor and a weird gravy substance on the plate. My husband liked the Chocolate Cheesecake but honestly he will eat anything without complaining. Sad to say all in all this was a lot of money to spend on a not very pleasant experience! If you cannot seat people comfortably and serve then efficiently then do not take their money!! Pre paid tipping is a bad bad idea! You have removed any motivation for the server to actually provide service! And yes I have been a server!!! It was an easy decision after coming two years in a row that we won't be back next year! read more

One of the nicer dinner placers we enjoyed while vacationing in Scottsdale with a large group. We called ahead and were set up with a (3) course meal for the entire group. As we got there we were greeted by the hostess and seated in our area. The view of the open kitchen as we walked by was beautiful. As we were seated our waiting staff brought us waters and a large charcuterie board full of wonderful nuts, fruits, meats and cheeses. The table ordered a few bottles of wine while we waited for our appetizers . We had several options to choose from prior to our reservation but decided to go with the soup for the first course following the choice of (3) main entrees and then dessert to follow. The food was mouth watering and some of the best I've had. The soup was interesting but very enjoyable. The beef tenderloin melted in your mouth and the chocolate cake was rich and full of awesome flavors. Our reservation was during the sunset which was beautiful to watch but caused problems due to the lighting in the restaurant. We were placed in the back of the restaurant and had dim lighting for the table. I would recommend this dinner spot. read more

Very nice ambiance with the fire place in the middle and live music. My wife (who is not Celiac) ordered the pumpkin churros and she said they were just ok, essentially what you expect a churro to be, nothing more or less (she rated a 3/5). I ordered the ricotta cheesecake which was gluten-free and very good. It was a little strange to have a coffee based mousse on the side of it and the granola made a lot more sense but regardless it all tasted good and solid presentation (I rated a 4/5). Fantastic food experience. We came in for their Sunday Supper Club which included a Silverado wine pairing dinner. Wow! We had such a lovely evening. All the food was amazing. We were actually blown away by how tasty and creative our dishes were. Zero complaints...everything was so delicious from start to finish. Breakfasts are A MUST at Mountain Shadows Resort Hearth '61. Their omelette with veggies and mushrooms is phenomenal. Their fruit bowl is fresh and quite a variety. The avocado toast with "slices" of avocado and not guac is so delicious and fresh. I had it with an egg on top. The display of the food is so appealing. Banana pancakes & their special sauce are so tasty. The waffle is crunchy but soft inside; perfect. The whipped cream is unbelieveable! The lunch salad is so good with added chicken. I really want to like this place. Servers are friendly, the space is lovely, live music fab. But the cocktails fail and food is meh. - Didn't care for the silent killer (mezcal just overwhelmed the amaro and campari ) or the paradise gimlet (straight lime juice?) - Chef brought out a deep fried oyster that tasted dried and fried with an odd aftertaste of sweet from the plum on top - B said the lobster bisque was OK, but not great - Tray of beautiful pickled, raw, and charred veggies with some type of hummus was the best thing we had all night - Seasonal flatbread- speck/pear/mozzarella/arugula was just ok - Beet salad was overly sweet and the apple chunks oddly huge - Pan roasted salmon was cooked perfectly, but a glance at the five or six other guests in our party who ordered the same thing found the portion size varied widely. Brussels sprouts were mushy and gnocchi just ok. - Risotto side was cheesy, but underwhelming - Side of asparagus was cooked to death - Charred broccoli meh Not a place I'd return to for dinner. The reason for 2 stars is simple: great service, poor food. But with failure in food a restaurant doesn't have much to stand on. Starting with the positives, our waiter, the staff, hostess, were all attentive and professional. I'd honestly give the people at Hearth 5 stars for their exceptional service. The person responsible for disappointment is the executive chef. While I noticed the kitchen appeared understaffed (granted it was a quiet Sunday evening) each dish that came out of the kitchen was unbalanced and poorly executed. The burrata: exceptional texture and creaminess (but almost certain not made on site) It was sadly overshadowed by a strange cringe-worthy chimichurri that masked the glorious cheese. Sopressata flatbread: amazing in theory, should have been a salty, savoury, guilty pleasure. But this flatbread was overly tart, acidic and bitter / slightly burnt. So much lemon in the arugula topping, our waiter saw my eyes shut tight and wince and even asked to remake it. Lentil mushroom stew: the mushrooms never made it to the flavor party. Albeit the stew was well seasoned and hearty. The chicken: I'd say it's quite hard to dry out dark meat. You have to really be careless to let a chicken thigh get gummy...well, that's that. The highlight: the bread. Asked a waitress if it was made in house, turns out it's from a bakery called noble bread...Bravo! Overall the experience was great and the staff tried their best to compensate, but food - terrible. I felt even more compelled to write this seeing all the rave reviews. It's because of these rave reviews that I came to dine with high expectations. I'll say with confidence that flavours were less than promising, and execution was a disaster. Customer service is top notch. They know how to please from the front of house to the servers. Ate breakfast here multiple days during our staycation. We had the ham & cheese omelette, eggs Benedict, steak and eggs with chimichurri sauce, Belgian waffles, and hash. All were good. Even as insignificant as fingerling potatoes were superb. Update: Jesse T. from this business messaged me, attempting to tell me I was wrong. No, I am not wrong. And I was not late. I also did not reserve brunch at 1:45. I reserved a lunch spot for 2 people at 2:00pm. And I arrived at 1:57pm. Perhaps OpenTable has issues? Because it allowed me to book the reservation and told me I was confirmed. Hey Jesse T., please do not create a lie about my actions, fabricate information, and post it as a response. I am deducting several stars for customer service. Booked a lunch reservation for 2pm on a Sunday through OpenTable, which was confirmed. I arrive at 2 and are told that they close at 2pm until 5pm. This is frustrating, and I wish they'd have had this information on their Yelp page, or at least not let me book a reservation on OpenTable. They offered us a limited item lounge/bar menu, which we accepted and sat outside. The couches are a bit of a mess, with stains, grime, plus wear and tear. However the views of the condos, pool, palm trees and far-off hill side were pleasant, and relaxing. We tried the Spicy Queso & Guacamole with blue corn chips. The guacamole was fresh and delicious and I could have eaten a double portion of that alone. The queso was not spicy whatsoever. It also tasted like velveeta cheese. I also tried the H '61 Burger, because the server recommended it. It was excellent, although it did take a long time to get to our table. The meat is super juicy and the bacon onion jam is a nice touch also. I didn't care for the fries that came with it, they were hard and seemed more like shoestring fries. The prices are expensive. Ummm WOW is all I can say. Our friend found this place because all the other more popular places were all booked up. We came here cuz we saw someone post picture of the mountains we came and decided it was a good choice right away. Very posh and clean look. Not a lot of people eating outside (like no one else at all) so we decided to eat outside for the view and it was breathtaking to see the mountain shadows at night, especially with the lightening all around us and the pool!! good live decisions. Often, hotel restaurants are overpriced and underwhelming, especially when you're at a resort. Happily, Hearth '61 was none of the above. My husband and I enjoyed a room service lunch, poolside lunch (I believe that may be a different kitchen, though) and a really awesome brunch in the restaurant during our three night stay at Mountain Shadows. Our room service lunch was a burger with bacon jam and a turkey avocado sandwich, both of which came with the most delicious parmesan fries. Our brunch was even better - my husband had banana pancakes that were topped with a bacon crumble. He thought they were some of the best he's ever had. Meanwhile, my garden vegetable omelet packed so much flavor and tons of great veggies. It came with potatoes and toast, and I ordered a side of extra crispy bacon, which was perfection. Our OJ came in giant glasses, and my coffee was regularly refreshed. Last but not least, the staff was super friendly, and a manager seemed really involved and stopped by every table to check in. Though I prefer a dim dining room. The espresso martini is one of the best I've had. The perfect combination, foamy and light ice flakes. Because it's the holidays we got a holiday cookie platter and it was the cutest! The chairs at the bar were plush and comfortable and the service prompt and friendly. The live music was at just the right volume. Just a general ViVi's life update: hungry again. Hearth '61 has become my favorite spot to meet up from happy hour or girls' night out to a special dinner. How can you go wrong when you have this spot tucked inside a gorgeous hotel? It's great scenary and well-designed space. I prefer to sit in the bar area because it just transports me to a sexier, sophisticated era of Mad Men. It just oozes this nostalgia of class and chill. The bar stools are plush velvety seats for your bum and it's my fave to chat up with people. Their wines rotate but every selection of rose and chardonnay have never failed my palate. I do wish they offer bottle service on the roses rather than just list the glass price. We end up drinking a bottle and it wouldn't be surprising we have two or more. If you sit in the dining area, the booths invite conversation and intimacy that you get lost in your own private space. If you sit in the seating area, it evokes a friendly approach and invitation to sit awhile. You'll never be short of anything of a beautiful view. For starters, I love the warm burrata and mushroom, also called the roasted mushroom casserole (depending what menu you are viewing); served in a cute cast iron pot, it's the charred sourdough that gets you licking your fingers. Think of it like a French onion soup but as a dip. It's the bomb. The salmon bites weren't bad if you want crispy fish nuggets. I am huge fan of the avocado hummus as a standard appetizer. If you have not busted at the seams, you have to order the scallops. Anyone who knows me, I will always order the scallops and/or niman ranch beef rib eye. It's my barometer for gauging a restaurant for its quality and skills. However, there is one item that far surpasses both and is insanely good - the rack of lamb. It stands toe to toe with my own specialty rack of lamb. And that is major kudos to the chef! Service is always impeccable and the place is never dull of pretty happy faces, ours included. As for dessert, the yuzu crème brulee is to die for. The apricot jam is a nice refreshing kiss to the tongue. The decadent triple chocolate brookie sundae (the name itself denotes 3000 calories) was decadent but the ice cream absolved any guilt. There's a chocolate tower that was pretty impressive and definitely a waistline killer but who's counting calories when you can't stop smiling from every bite? Prices are comparable for a swanky hotel like this and well worth it. I have to say, for not staying at the hotel, I probably frequent this place often because I am currently crushing on them. A LOT. *Response to Owner Feedback: For #1, the birthday girl, Phoebe, mentioned that she never approved the menu items and the first time she ever saw these items was when we showed up for brunch. Who were you working with in the group that approved these menu items and was it done via email or phone? It was also not communicated from the servers to the group that this included non-alcoholic beverages, else I suspect more people would have gotten beverages instead of just water. For #2, this would have been made more apparent if you had simply been proactive and asked around the group instead of asking a couple individuals in the group when you came over to the table. For #3, making it inconvenient for your customers is never a good policy, whether its the standard or not. I would suggest instead of doing what is the standard, think about stepping outside of this mentality to go above and beyond what your customer's expect. read more

We are here for a conference and ate dinner last. Night. The food was excellent. The service was wonderful and the ambience was also very nice. It is slightly pricey but that is expected for a hotel restaurant in a resort. I would definitely recommend it! read more
