Very nice afternoon at Heath Sparkling Wines! We stopped in for the bubbles tasting on our way hour from a New Year's week in Fredericksburg. It's a beautiful setting, relatively new and all shiny! We were a walk-in (no reservation), but they were able to accommodate us within about 15 minutes. We were paired with another group for the tasting, which was nice got get more diverse reactions and comments on the bubbles. Our presenter, Kathy, did a great job. Very personable, very knowledgeable about the wines AND the bubbles production process. Heath has invested in its own "secondary fermentation in the bottle" equipment to now do that on site (instead of shipping their wines to CA for that process), and their automated system to riddle the wine in 4-5 days instead of 18 months! Impressive! We enjoyed all the bubbles, and decided to pick up a few bottles as well as join the wine club. Looking forward to our next visit to Heath! read more

I have done many many tastings, and this place is the most opposite of the warm Texas vibe of the neighboring wineries. I can't tell you about the wine because they wouldn't just let me taste it like everywhere else without agreeing to a food tasting as well. I am sure this kind of pretentiousness is cool for some, but it is not my vibe. We stopped in on a Sunday without a reservation, which didn't seem like an issue because it was 34 degrees and windy outside and there was almost no one out. We were informed the soonest they could offer a tasting was in a half hour. The host then eavesdropped when I explained to my friend that we could go to any other winery along the Wine Trail and be seated immediately. It was clear she was eavesdropping (so inappropriate) because she haughtily announced that they need time to "inform the chef." Apparently, you can't just taste their wines, you also have to eat some food with it. I don't even know what the food was, but I would make a bet it involved something I don't even eat. It all just felt over the top and weird, so we left. (And got seated immediately for another tasting with a warm and friendly attitude - as one comes to expect of the Texas Wine Trail!) The whole place had a total California dumped in Texas vibe, from the attitude to the design. You can't even sit on their patio without being a wine club member. What is that nonsense? It is a bummer they specialize in wines I actually would have liked to try because I cannot imagine making an effort to return. read more

Ambiance is nice when you walk in. Looks very new and clean. You have a view of their vineyards too. We got a private room for our tasting. We had to wait a little bit though because they got out reservations wrong over the phone. I'm not usually a fan of sparkling wines but my wife and friends enjoyed it. The tasting experience was interesting. They give you a brief history of how the vineyard was developed and how their wines are made. Tastings do run on the higher end of $30 a pop. The food pairings complemented their wines well. PSA: You have to be a member of Heath Sparkling Wines or Grape Creek Vineyard to enjoy the patio. They will turn you away if you are not a member. It is clearly posted on their website and on site, but so you know before arriving. We did a flight on the patio. The view is gorgeous, but it can get pretty windy (it even knocked someone's drink off the table) requiring the shades to be put down. The staff were very nice and knowledgeable about the sparkling wines. On the patio, the only menu items served are the light bites. None of them tickled our fancy, so I can't speak to how the food is. The wines were refreshing and became more complex as we went on. The pours were generous and a great size for us to share. Great spot amongst the Fredericksburg strip - we had a really nice experience. The place is very crisp and modern. We did the sparkling wine tasting for 2 (~$35pp). Unfortunately, we were tabled with two very drunk women who were cussing and being overtly loud during the tasting. Upon tuning this out, it was lovely trying the different bottle selections, learning about the fermentation process, and sipping on a lovely afternoon! Our presenter noticed the interruptions and offered us another tasting on the house with some of their Syrah's and Cabernet's. Have you ever said "I want to drink some tasty sparkling wines while watching a sales presentation and eating random cold food that tastes like a hodgepodge of leftovers?" If so, this place is for you! We drove by Heath and decided to stop in based on the beautiful grounds and our love of sparkling wines. The building is modern, but as soon as we arrived, we knew this was a different vibe from the small and cozy winery we visited earlier in the day. There were tasting areas with large display screens, and we started to put together what was coming. We were accommodated within about 10 minutes of arriving without a reservation on a weekday, and shown to our tasting area with another small group. Everyone was excited for a pairing tasting, but the excited stopped when we tasted the cold food. It was basically like some cold leftovers you would find in someone's refrigerator not the chef curated tasting they mention. Want some cold curry?!? Cold piece of meat? Mystery bite with pop rocks for "Halloween"? Nothing was good, and everyone was trying to be polite, but it was bad. On to the wine, while the wines were delicious, there was no education behind them. We asked about blends and differences in the vintages, and the wine host couldn't really answer. She mainly stuck to her script which went right along with the video shown on the large displays. From there it just turns to a sales pitch... Overall, the wines are 4 stars, but the tasting experience is a 1. Buy a bottle and enjoy, but skip the tasting. read more

We stopped in on a beautiful Sunday afternoon for a tasting. We had a wonderful experience with Ivan who was very personable and knowledgeable. The sparkling wine was delicious and we loved that it was carefully paired with small bites which was very well thought out. I can not say enough good things about Ivan who took his time to explain each wine and answer questions- Heath has found a gem with him as an employee. We bought several bottles and were very pleased with what was offered in joining the wine club. The tasting was a 5 After our tasting, we stepped over to the members patio to enjoy the sunshine, a glass of wine and a bite to eat. This experience was not as nice as the tasting......we were told "well we will have to charge you as your membership doesn't start until tmw" we said ok that's fine. "Ok, well I don't do that...I'll send someone else over" ok.... someone else came over and We ordered. No biggie. My husband didn't order wine as he was driving.... He later asked if he could get a refill of water.... They didn't seem very pleased...never got a refill..., we finally asked if we could get our ticket as they never returned. We did not find the patio staff to be friendly or accommodating. This part of the experience was a 2. This was a really nice experience. I was not even aware that Texas had vineyards. Also this was my first time visiting an "all sparkling wine" vineyard. The sparkling wines were great. Our host, Larry was also phenomenal and very knowledgable about the wines and the production process. A very beautiful winery just outside of town, with floor to ceiling windows of the vineyards. When you first check in - the lady who takes your money was too pretentious and I was NOT digging the vibe at all. She had us cooling our jets for the tasting even though the place was literally empty. It is $35 for a tasting, but it includes 4 tastes and 4 small bites to go with each varietal. Absolutely appalling customer service. We made reservations for 2:45, and later received an email from Heath, changing the time to 2:15. We didn't read the email, and we can take responsibility for that. Just as we were heading out the door to Heath at about 2:15, we received a call from them, asking where we were. We explained we hadn't received the email with the time change, and asked if 2:45 was an acceptable arrival time. We were told YES. We also asked if we should just cancel, to which Heath replied that we would still be charged the $300 tasting fee, either way. Do I like this policy? No, but I understand that they have a business to run. Still, it's important to note that we were made to feel we had no choice -- honor the reservation, or throw $300 away. So, we hurried over to Heath and arrived at 2:40. This is where the story gets absolutely insane. Upon our arrival, we were told there was no room for us at Heath, and that all tasting tables were reserved. We protested that we had just confirmed on the phone with the manager that 2:45 was an okay arrival time, AND that we were feeling forced to show up because of the $300 charge. Pause here: Although we felt annoyed and inconvenienced, we assumed this was an easily solvable problem. Most managers would A) find a way to squeeze in our group for a tasting, B) offer $300 worth of merchandise/wine to take with us, or C) just void the $300 charge altogether. Right? WRONG. So, so wrong. The manager doubled down on the "policy," stating that she could not stop the $300 charge, nor offer services or products worth the amount. She also claimed that she was entirely clear on the phone: "I said that if you showed up at 2:45, I would see what I could do for you. I never promised you would have a reservation." Pause again: This is a 30-minute time discrepancy. At 2:15 when the manager called, she had absolutely no clue that all tables would be full at 2:45? No clue? How is this possible? Also, the manager is sadly mistaken if she thinks that saying "If you arrive at 2:45, I'll see what I can do" communicates the possibility of being both excluded from services AND being charged for those services. What the manager did offer: 1) To come back another day - No, like 99% of visitors, we're not local, and we're not interested in organizing a separate road trip months or years later just to visit Heath. 2) To be seated with one glass of wine for each of us - This almost sounds reasonable, but we asked, "Are you saying that for $300 you'll give each of us one glass of wine only? So $50 per glass?" Yes, she confirmed . . . that was her offer. I'm sorry, but how dumb does she think that her customers are? "How about a few bottles to take with us?" we asked. No. One glass per customer, at $50 each, was her final offer. As they say, there's no negotiating with terrorists . . . We left, and before we reached the parking lot, the familiar *ping* of a bank account charge rang out from the cell phone. Yep, the manager wasted no time in snagging that $300 . . . for absolutely no products or services rendered. We were treated like "no-shows," when in fact we did show up, despite a miscommunication about a 30-minute time difference. This is a winery, not a maximum security prison. Show a little flexibility, for your customers' sake. Finally, my friend wrote a negative (but true) Google review about our experience at Heath, to which they responded that our group "became verbally abusive, which created a disruptive environment for others in the tasting room." Nice try, but that is FAKE NEWS! To the manager's credit, she stayed relatively calm and professional. But so did we. Yes, we were unhappy customers, but I'd like to know a person who would be beaming with joy after getting completely ripped off. We don't appreciate Heath accusing us of acting inappropriately, but even if we had, it would not excuse their enforcing an unfair policy that ultimately cannot be justified. read more

I love sparkling wines, so am very pleased to have a winery in Fredericksburg that has so many bubbly choices. Ivan was a fantastic host, and taught us a lot about the wines, the vineyard and what it takes to be certified at the different levels as a sommelier. Every wine we sampled had a very distinctive flavor. My husband and I more often agree on our favorite, but this time we were split between the original Heath sparkling, Euphoria, and the rose' sparkling, Adoration. We went home with bottles of both. The setting of the winery is very sleek and modern - much different from many of the older wineries in the area. Our only issues were at the front end of our experience where the lady at the desk continued to tell us we never had a reservation even though we showed her the confirmation email (people in hospitality need to be taught the value of admitting a mistake and graciously apologizing). After we then had to wait 30 minutes while others who came in after us "with a reservation " went first, we very nearly left. I'm glad we stayed, as we enjoyed the wines and Ivan. We joined the wine club and look forward to our next visit. read more

The experience itself was pretty okay. I will say the sparkling wines were pretty good. We each got a pricey tasting, and each one had a good flavor to it. The grounds are lovely. Our tasting was on the outdoor patio which was nice on such a pretty day. The food in that area was limited, so we ordered one of each small appetizer they had. Payment for the wine and for the food is separate, but this was explained to us at the start, so there was no confusion. Leading up to the experience left a sour taste in my mouth. To get a reservation, one person (per table I suppose) must be a member. My friends called and were both treated pretty rudely and cut off by the staff on the phones. They were told the max at each table was to be 5 because the don't have space for larger groups. So two of our friends became members. When we arrived, the "gatekeeper" initially put up a rather rude exterior. I almost told my friends it was not worth it, but she warmed up to us and suddenly we were seated at our already reserved tables. When we were seated, we had a 6 top and a 4 top. Each member's tasting was complimentary, and each of got a $35 tasting. Like i said, the sparklings were pretty good. Everything ended pretty well, but several of the staff with which we interacted could have loosened up a lot and made the overall taste a little better for everyone. I've been to many other wine country areas, even in the bougeist of regions, and at least I felt like they appreciated our business. The fact that I left with the poor taste of how we were treated rather than the taste of the wines says a lot. Another negative review for their customer service. We're government employees and with the government shutdown, we can't afford $300 in wine memberships. The government shuts down on the 30th. On Oct 1st I begin my journey of trying to cancel. Except, you can't do it from your online account. I send an e-mail. Nothing. I call. They never answer their phones. I see they're trying to charge my account and I call more and more, and send another e-mail. They don't respond. A week later I move money over from savings TO BUY GROCERIES DURING A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN. I go to pay for them and there's nothing in the account? I see that I have a super cute e-mail from Nicole Reyes saying congratulations! Your payment had processed and we're so sorry to see you go! (Insert some very disgusting, foul language). I'll call tomorrow so they can explain to my eight year old, on Veteran's Day, why we get to drink champagne instead of eat. Disgusting excuses for human beings. Do not buy into their membership. The website and I didn't get along to book a tasting (which I recommend) so we did a drop in and were accommodated. We loved all the sparkling wines and the small bites. Went here on a Saturday with my husband and my friends, and luckily there were openings! It would be a good idea to call in ahead and make a reservation, they do get super busy and packed. This is one of the newer wineries and is quite popular. One of the things I like about this place that the other wineries don't do is that they have a tv behind the wine host in which they use to tell the story of the winery, everything from the grapes to how the wines are packaged and distributed. I also loved how this place pairs the wine with a small bite curated for the specific sparkling wine being served. I also enjoyed or hosts storytelling and passion towards the wine they serve. One of the facts that I learned was that the wine glasses are laser etched at the bottom so when the wine is poured and fills the glass, and when it touches the etched dots the wine continues to bubble. So cool! I highly suggest doing this winery first before going thru the other wineries. We did this last on our list, and wished we did this first to start with. They have an outside seating area where you can get wine by the glass. So, we wanted a tasting. It was $35 per person. It was good, but not worth the $35. You get four tastings and a tiny bite of something with each. I did like the history provided. The wines are good. I'm not a Chardonnay person and I actually liked theirs. Nice modern styled tasting room and super friendly and low-pressure hostesses. My wife loves sparkling wines but only liked (not loved) several of our flight of 4 ("Ebullient" was both our favorites). The wine making video was brief and educational. We joined their lowest level wine club so that we can try Stout's restaurant at Grape Creek (adjacent tasting room/winery) when we return in 3 weeks. We'll probably cancel afterwards. We signed up after we attended one of their tasting experiences which are very well put together and allows you to taste and learn about all of their sparkling wines. As Fredericksburg's only sparkling winery, my friend and I knew we had to go here on our wine weekend and we made it our first stop. From the venue and the sparkling/food pairing, everything was flawless. A $25 tasting gets you 4 sparkling plus food pairings. The bites of food really worked well with their wines. We liked the chicken salad so much we ordered the sandwiches to enjoy outside. We liked the sparkling wine enough that we bought several bottles. We knew going into the tasting that my friend would be signing up for the wine club so we could take advantage of their outdoor members-only lounge area with our complimentary glass of sparkling.
