This is a review for her breathwork, Theta Healing, and neuromuscular reprogramming massage: One of my chiropractors recommended her. Sometimes you just have to try something to see if it works for you instead of waiting for science to catch up. After she became a classically trained massage therapist, she saw clients would tend to come back with the same issues. Her website says that led her to train in neuromuscular reprogramming and she eventually discovered there were limitations to that as well. Then she became certified as an Advanced ThetaHealing practitioner and saw improvement and sometimes the disappearance of issues that hadn't been healed with her other modalities. She also became certified in trauma-informed breath work facilitation. As she says, "I am not offering to fix you or your body, because that would imply that there is something wrong with you." If you want to feel nurtured physically, emotionally, and spiritually, this is your home. Unlike some energy workers, she led me on a meditation and then asked throughout the session if I'd like to experience specific positive things I requested and transmute thoughts I didn't tell her about but she knew anyway. I found that to be more effective than some energy work where I didn't know what I was consenting to. The three and only sessions I've had were also one of the three energy work sessions in my life where I felt strong physical sensations. While she rested her hands under my neck, my normally cold hands became so hot. At my third session, I asked to work on more physical issues. After her gentle muscle testing and bodywork, I experienced a week of relief from a daily physical issue. I had gone to a Jikiden reiki practitioner a few days before for that issue. I didn't try to reiki myself because I wanted to experience the effects of different practitioners. Now I know in my body how her breathwork is different from meditations and other modalities I tried. Also, I appreciated that she offered another rare thing: a chance to create community where clients could choose to meet in-person at a group healing. And, I was grateful that she was generous with her time and cleared the room energetically between sessions. Heather is absolutely brilliant! I was dealing with some nasty sciatic pain on my left glute and was getting to the point where I was sick of depending on ibuprofen for relief. If you're into hocus pocus massages then you'll love this place. I came in wanting a deep tissue massage which is listed on her own website. Apparently she doesn't do those anymore and only does 'neuromuscular reprogramming', which entails stomach palpitations and repetitive tests of resistance against Heather's hand. Weird, not effective, and pretty sure this is not grounded in any type of real science. I Googled it. It also made me extremely uncomfortable because I had no clue what she was doing and hated her rubbing my stomach like that. I know I should have spoken up, but there is just something about being nude and vulnerable that makes it so hard. I wrote Heather after my massage to tell her how disappointed I was. She actually wrote me a nice message accepting fault for not explaining what she was doing at all over the 90 minutes and offered to refund me the tip I gave her (don't ask me why I still tipped...). I accepted, but when I thought about it more, I really thought she should have given me a full refund. So I wrote her again and asked her for half of my money back. I thought this was only fair given A. She acknowledged she did a bad job of telling me why she was rubbing my belly and B. I told her I was very unsatisfied. This was when Heather decided to start ignoring me, so I think it is only fair that I share my poor experience with her both as a masseuse and as a business person. Came in expecting crappy parking but I found a meter spot really fast and easily. Then I went inside saw a lady washing her hands and I forgot her name which is pretty rude haha but it was Heather and there were several rooms for various other kinds of therapy services. Heather had the largest one I believe. She had a very calm and helpful demeanor; you could tell she really wanted to listen to your needs. I came in with shoulder blade pain that seems to nag me from time to time and I thought I would try massage this time. Answered many questions and Heather got to work. I got the 1.5 hour mix I believe. Afterwards, my range of motion for my shoulder felt wider but the pain was actually still there but mildly better. Heather is a magic worker!! For weeks after a single massage with neuromuscular reprogramming I feel my body is still maintaining the aligned and relaxed state she was able to get me to. Not only that, but the massage was the most gentle, pain-free work I've ever had done. Every time that I schedule a massage appointment with Heather, I feel that awesome combination of excitement and peace. Here's why -- each time that I see her, she does an assessment of how I'm feeling in my body and listens to me talk about the tension in my shoulders, back, and hips. She then focuses on those areas, but - and this is the important part - she also tunes into what my body is saying in that appointment. She has found areas that I didn't even know were tight and sore, and in need of care, attention, and healing. In one particular session, she found that one leg of mine looked shorter on the massage table than the other. As we did some bodywork exercises, she helped me sync up my breath to the specific movements we were doing. She massaged areas that were so tight with such expertise & precision, and after this, we checked in & evaluated the difference and I swear I felt that one side of my body had grow in inches! I felt like she helped me unlock the stiffness and tension & I literally walked away more whole. I am feeling such a wave of relief at having found Heather as a therapist. The last few massage therapy sessions I've set up in SF seemed destined for success...high reviews on Yelp, a seemingly engaged therapist and me just trying to relax into appreciation on the table... Only to get a very lackluster massage. ;( One that even my boyfriend, who is not professionally trained, could easily outshine. And along comes Heather! She restored my faith that there *are* massage therapists who use enough pressure (my biggest complaint of my last few sessions with others). Went in last Tuesday and had my first massage with Heather! Parking wasn't too bad and when I got into the lobby you could tell the place was extremely pleasant and quiet. Shown to the room, Heather gave me time to get ready (I still didn't know what I was doing because I'm a rookie but she helped me out with clear instructions!) I'm just glad the session was fun start to finish. After two hours of the most needed and truly full body experience, I felt rejuvenated and left with a little pep in my step! Next day I was very sore and as an athlete that was exactly what I was looking for. The best way to describe it is my body's muscles are a little unbalanced but are healing strong. Almost like a brand new workout I've never had before. I feel stretched, stronger and more comfortable generally sitting and sleeping. I have a lot more work and I'll be visiting again for sure. Hands down the best body worker in SF. I have been working with Heather regularly for 2 years. She is one of the most intuitive skilled body workers I have met thus far. And I have worked with many throughout the US! Currently I have lower back issues. Heather was very open in regards to communication about different pains that I was having. She focused on specific areas such as my hamstrings, glutes, and other muscles surrounding my back to relieve stress on my spine and lower back. My inflammation decreased after her session. Let me start by saying that this was the most professional massage I have ever received. Heather's personality and demeanour is as warm and inviting as her touch. She took the time to ask me about myself, to see which areas of my body needed special attention and explained her approach before beginning our session. It was incredibly relaxing and pleasantly intense in my problem areas. The atmosphere is calming and the undercurrent of crickets in the music brought me back to my childhood nights in the country. Upon completion, I was given advice on how to care for my injured hip flexors in between sessions, which was very helpful. I have had 3 sessions so far with Heather and all 3 have been beyond wonderful. She is very professional and on top of everything from scheduling your appointment to following up with your session. She is located in the Inner Richmond area which is very nice and quiet area that makes your massage that much better. She has mostly done deep tissue massage on me for my incredibly stiff and tense shoulders. It takes her a good 20 minutes to warm them up, but I appreciate he approach to it. She is soft enough that she isn't hurting me but applying careful pressure all over to make my muscles relax and change. I haven't got to try the Thai Shiatsu yet but I am hoping to try that next. She really makes sure that her clients are taken care of from start to finish. I can contact her any time and make appointments and even if I have had to cancel she is more than understanding and works with me to find a time that will work for me. Due to a car accident a number of years ago, I suffer from often severe pain and stiffness in my back and neck due to degenerative disk disease, osteoarthritis and other related problems.
