Anyway, they certainly have done quite well with these stations. They are large, spacious, and the trains are reasonably frequent. They have certainly come a long way since those rather disappointing stations of the mid-20th Century.

Anyway, I like railway stations and even though there is little that I can say about them, I like to at least leave some notes indicating that I have been through here. Anyway, Ringwood Station is a major interchange station at the confluence of two rail lines - to Lilydale and to Belgrave. There is also a major bus interchange here, and across the road is the Eastland shopping centre. They have actually revamped it quite recently, and at times you can even catch an express train to the city.

OK, so it feel pretty strange reviewing a bus, but the 246 Bus service (provided by Ventura Buses)…read moreis one of the two great public transport routes in Melbourne city. The 246 runs from Clifton Hill to Elsternwick down the notoriously shit arterials of Hoddle Street and Punt Road. Effectively this links the likes of Elsternwick Park (where the annual Community Cup footy game between the Espy Rockdogs and the RRR & PBS Megahertz has been played for the past few years) and Cliffy Hill; but more importantly, the route cuts through Richmond along the way, therefore eliminating the dogleg into the city for those travelling north to south or vice versa. Now you may be thinking 'so what?' 'So what' is that more often than not, the bus will actually charge on past all traffic stranded on the Hoddle/Punt wasteland and get you to your destination quicker and with less stress than driving. Also, if you've a mind for a few beers say, at the Corner Hotel for example, you can leave the car behind and get yourself a skin full. Plus, bloody nobody uses this service, so you always get a seat. And, it's pretty regular (like every 10 minutes during peak times and 20 minutes for the most part after that). It's gold.

Not to mention the 75 degree gradient (I think) escalators. But yes its both bland and utilitarian as Dominic C mentions. It could also serve as a set to a science fiction movie. This station is basically more functional than aesthetically pleasing, though honestly, I do prefer…read morestations to be aesthetically pleasing, but then again what I tend to like with railway stations is the fact that they are old, and this is clearly not one of those stations. Still, it is staffed, and it does have a toilet, though unfortunately the toilet is only on one side of the station, and it is a bit of a hike to get to it from the other side.
