We parked in two different lots for the duration of our trip. This was extremely inconvenient. The hotel has no on site staff, which is very off putting. While we knew beforehand there was no elevator, we didn't know the staircase was a spiral one. Very unsafe with two suitcases and nobody on staff to help us. There was no extra blanket in the room. At one point we lifted up the duvet cover and saw the underside of it- it was filthy. The shower had the wall dispensers for shampoo and soap but they were empty. We were given small tubes of toiletries. Not classy when the dispensers are already there. So while the hotel looks lovely, they really don't know what they are doing. We loved Quebec City but will not return to this hotel on our next visit.

It was probably the home of a wealthy person at some point and is now a boutique hotel. As a point of information, I made my reservation with Expedia. The hotel also has a website of its own where you can reserve a room. The hotel was kind enough to ensure I had a first floor room as stairs are difficult. There are quite a few first floor rooms, as well as a lovely parlor when you first come in. There are no staff on site except for cleaning staff, but I spoke with two of them and both were exceptionally friendly and informative - a good thing, because that's how I found out there was a room in the basement where you could get more pods for your Nespresso machine. I did have to look up using the machine online because the little diagram in the room didn't make sense to me. I did not appreciate not knowing in advance that there were no reception staff on site. I was supposed to receive an email with a check-in info, which I did not get until reaching out and getting that via text. That was when I realized that entry into the building and your room is with access codes. In fact, every contact during my stay was via text. I've never had that experience before, and while it worked out, I'm not certain I'd want to do that again. That's just the old lady in me. I know that many modern hotels do something similar with access codes or apps. The rooms are very old fashioned and lovely. In addition to my room, I was able to eyeball two rooms while they were cleaning, and they were all just as nice. My only concern was the electricity in the building, as I had difficulty charging my phone, and some of the lights seemed to be "iffy" when I tried to turn them on. The bathroom was very nice with room on shelves to place my things. The shower was one of those deep, whirlpool type tubs with a shower nozzle above. That wouldn't have bothered me so much except that there was no railing to hang onto while getting in, or one inside, so it felt quite dangerous. As a result, I only used the shower once. The soap/lotion/shampoo they use is a local product, and I admire them for doing that, but I'll admit that I didn't like it very much. That's just a personal preference. I totally missed the mini fridge in the room (where there was creamer for the coffee, alas) because it was in the closet and just looked like a tiny white box. No big deal; I should have realized. I would have given anything for one of those fold-out luggage holders to set my luggage on. Instead, I used one of the bath towels to cover the little fainting couch at the foot of the bed and put my case on there. It would be nice if there was an electrical plug by the desk so that you could do some work on a laptop. I loved the location, and would stay here again.

Instead of a B&B or a hotel room, we decided to rent a loft. The location of this loft is…read moreoutstanding, just a hundred meters or so from the Frontenac. There is no reception desk and you never see an actual person. They email you codes to get in the building and into your loft. We were supposed to stay on the top floor in a loft that overlooks the Frontenac but they had trouble with that room and had to move us. Our new room was 302. The room is a three bedroom loft that sleeps seven. We are only two people so we only used one bedroom. There is a full kitchen, large family room and laundry room as well. All lofts share an outside roof deck that overlooks Quebec City and the view is incredible. Our loft was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. If there is a downside, it is the charcoal gray floors that show every bit of dirt and road salt. Also, there is no maid service unless you pay to have it cleaned (it will be clean on your arrival). Overall we were quite pleased with this very different lodging arrangement.

Coffee was plentiful. The room had a dentist size sink in the bathroom. Very little shelf space for your toiletries. no drawers in the bedroom so plan on living out of your suitcase. There was a wet bar piece of furniture with a regular size sink in the bedroom. Made no sense to me. The headboard had two artsy pieces on each side of the bed that were pretty but useless. They could've put chest of drawers on each side. Cute hotel with nice courtyard in the back. Stairs are steep, but that seems to be the norm in the old city. That being said, the location made the lack of convenient furnishings, less annoying. Would I stay there again? That's where the maybe comes in.

The hotel did a great job transforming this historic old building into a comfortable stay. It's just a couple of blocks from the Frontenac and Rue de St. Jean. Luckily, we had Room 9 (neuf) on the first floor so I didn't have all the stairs. Some things, I might have done differently, but not enough to affect my review: Room 9 needs some better fitting draperies (or better yet, some blinds) and I would have liked a comfortable chair. Note to people who need handicapped accessibility: There is no elevator (common in these really old buildings), but if you can manage 7 stairs with a sturdy railing, ask for Room 9 and everything you need like the living room (salon), breakfast, and library will be on that floor.

Our room had a great view of the city. They also have music shows during the weekend, although we didn't have time to attend them. They seem short-staffed. Housekeeping is only available if you stay for 3 nights or more. After the 2nd night, they will replace towels, trash, etc and full housekeeping service happens after the 4th night.  Also, our room had a couple of towels with holes in them. Check-in is at 4.30pm, which IMO, is pretty late. Do not expect early check-in to be available. Room rates are pretty high for the services, but given its location, I guess that's expected.

The host was a great help in learning the ins and outs of the city and was a lifesaver in helping us find parking on one of the busiest weekends of the year.

There have been some décor upgrades since my last visit but everything else has remained the same. This isn't a luxury hotel (rates are extremely reasonable - from $70 per night during the off-season) so there is no breakfast, no concierge and no parking but the rooms in which I've stayed and seen on my way in and out of the hotel are all charming and functional. They vary in size and amenities but all are reasonably priced, clean and cozy. I'd say that there are 15 or 16 rooms total - all different and all with private baths. Many feature stone walls, wrought iron beds and sitting areas. A few, like mine, even feature outdoor balconies. Parking is available right across the park in the Chateau's garage but there are also a few street spots scattered around the very quiet neighborhood. I really do love Hotel Sur le Cap but on this trip, I had a couple of less than pleasant experiences that may influence my decision to stay there in the future. #1 - As I was getting ready for bed, I took my earrings out and one fell down the uncovered sink drain. I thought for sure their maintenance person would be able to fish it out of the p trap but I never received any follow up. The next bit of disappointment came when I let the desk clerk know that we were leaving one night early because of the huge snowstorm that was about to hit. I certainly didn't expect them to refund us, but it would have been nice for them to do what the hotel next door had done for their guests and offer a partial credit toward a future stay. As many Yelpers have said before, you get what you pay for but sometimes you get more. I still love Manoir sur le Cap and I would absolutely recommend it to other travelers, just don't expect stellar customer service.

If I need linens and toiletries, I know that I can ask the hotel and get them. On our last day, we went down to get coffee, and the Asian manager said we couldn't have any!!! What???? Here we are guests who paid to stay at this place. She explained that it was because we didn't allow the maid in to refresh our towels and such. She said that if we wanted coffee, we'd have to pay for it!! Manoir Sur-le-Cap, you have a beautiful establishment in a great location and for an "okay" price. Do something about your customer service!

Not over the top nice but they do their job well. - Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite perks aren't too shabby. Cons: - room thermostat - it worked the first 2 days but then completely stopped working. I had set the temp to 77 (I was cold) and it has been consistently sitting at a 71-72. Not sure if it's because it's really cold outside but dang. - Elevators. There's only 2 and if you're staying on the top floor, be prepared to make multiple stops on the way up and down. There were many times where I had to wait 15-20 mins to enter the elevator. Something to keep in mind when the hotel is busy. - No room upgrades - limited options - it's in the middle of no where. The area is being developed and so there's not much within a 15 min walking distance. Without a car, we were limited to eating at Cosmo's 3x a day for 8 days

The website promised parking but it was valet ($22 per day) which is okay but I think if you want to be frugal there are public parking areas that would have been cheaper or even street parking seemed available while we were there. We were upgraded for free to a suite. Very impressive room/apartment. Huge sitting room, nice kitchen and okay bedroom. I wasn't keen on losing the queen bed for two doubles as we were going to share and that was less room. They had a new television system they wanted feedback on. It wasn't that great - the remote kept going from cable channels to some silly game it wanted us to play. No channel line-up anywhere to be found so finding channels was difficult. It did have a kitten video channel that was pretty awesome if you love cats. We used the stove and it took awhile to heat up. Not sure I would bake any real meals using it. The fridge also didn't seem to work right as things weren't very cool. There is a paper directing you to throw out trash before leaving and it was crazy to get to that area of the hotel. You had to go around and down an alley. Might want to indicate that in the instructions. All in all, in October it was a perfect price and an awesome location for exploring old Quebec so I was happy with the stay!

Our room (we had a Standard room), again small (but comfortably so), had a (non-functional but pretty) fireplace, as well as one window, a desk, and an arm chair. The lighting was great - pot lights and a funky chandelier above the bed - and the one brick wall added cozy character. Add to all that the superb location right in Vieux Quebec and the incredible price (our room was $82 and included breakfast, wifi, and access to the rooftop 'spa' - aka hot tub)... Hotel Acadia is a gem!
