As a composer, I rarely expected to find myself reviewing a church…read more I composed, arranged, and recorded the original music for Family Christian Center's long-running production, Jesus of Nazareth, under a written royalty agreement tied to ticket sales. That agreement was mutually revised in 2014 to reflect the production's continued use of my music. Royalty payments stopped in 2018. Over the years I've tried every private avenue I could think of, including invoices, emails, certified letters, documentation, and legal counsel. Earlier this year I was told leadership was reviewing the matter, but after providing everything they requested, communication once again stopped. I'm posting this only after exhausting every private and professional effort to resolve it. I remain hopeful that Family Christian Center's leadership will choose to address this in a manner consistent with the values it teaches.

(That's vacation bible school) The chapel is small, fits about 100 people or so and has a balcony area used for I would assume the choir, piano and instrumental players. The chapel wall facing the congregation has lovely stained glass and even at the end of the day with the last of sunlight it looks lovely. I was here for a small wedding, thank you to the Benedict and Borgetti families for keeping the ceremony short and sweet. The two reverends' presiding did a grand job of keeping it short, lively and entertaining.

Sadly I learned the opposite was true when my fiancé and I expressed interest in having our wedding reception there. Our appointment was made online. After arriving first thing we were asked is if we were having an official Catholic wedding if not they would not hold the reception in a stern tone. We were in shock, as we believe we are all God's children and you shouldn't turn anybody away obviously St. James the less Catholic Church Hall feels differently. Honestly if I didn't tell her I was in fact Catholic I have the feeling that she was going to make my fiancé and I do the Game of Thrones walk of atonement down Kennedy Avenue. "Shame, shame, shame..." Once she found out I was Catholic her tone changed but bottom line if you are not a Catholic and you do not have a traditional Catholic wedding they will refuse service for your reception. Other Catholic institutions like Loyola in Chicago will at allow you to host your reception without a Catholic wedding. Hall itself was just ok, for the money I think you could find something a little more updated.
