Escaped with 2 mins to spare!
    Melissa H.

I remember when I was first getting into escape rooms around 2017/2018 and I saw this room FIRST open. Its literally right in my area, but for some reason, I hadnt given it a try until Sept 2021! I think I was skeptical since it was only one room, it had just opened (literally like 2 Yelp reviews) and I had never an escape room before that wasnt some "big name" or "big warehouse", boy was I wrong. I came with a group of friends back in Sept 2021 to try out Heist Escape Room for the first time. I was definitely super shocked at the quality of the room, how immersive it is, and the interactions that you get to have during the gameplay. I think what makes this room shine is the cohesiveness of the rooms and the flow of the game itself. I dont want to spoil too much but for example, there are some parts of the room that make you feel like you're outside, or some parts that make you feel like you really are working in the office protecting the diamond. During our first time, my group and I wasnt able to escape, but we knew we would come back to try again! I just went this July 4th, with some newcomers to Heist and one person who came during the first try. We were able to escape this time!! Even playing the room a second time, I didnt remember every single detail, a lot of the stuff still felt so new but with the same amount of fun!! Especially now with finishing the whole game, I was able to see the entire gameplay of the room and how many more puzzles there were. I would consider this a gen 2 room with some lock/puzzles, but mostly electronic and interactive ones! They were super unique and some I havent seen before. Kevin, the owner was awesome. Very considerate of his escape room goers, explained the room well, and overall super nice. This was his business straight out of college and it looks like it's been doing super well. I hear that he'll be opening a new business soon, and closing this one down which I'm super sad about because I was really looking forward to trying some of the new rooms that he had planned. However, the ideas of his new business endeavor seem great, and I will also support that! Thanks Heist Escape Room for being one of the best escape rooms in the Bay!

Ask the Community - Heist Escape Room

What is the minimum age you would recommend for the room? Assuming there will be adult supervision.

There is no minimum age recommended for this room if there is an adult supervision. While we do…

Would this be appropriate for a group of 5 boys, ages 11-12?

Hi, Yes but only with adult supervision

What degree of physical fitness is required? I.e., I’m elderly with some arthritis and I can walk fine but wouldn’t be able to jump, crawl around or do anything where someone might bump me and I’d fall.

Hi, No one will physically touch or bump into you. All bookings are private as well so the only…

Do they accommodate groups of 8?

Yes you can play this game with 2-8 players. All bookings are private. 2 players are only recommended if you have done at least 5 escape rooms.

Is this a Generation 1 escape room (meaning typical "lock and key" type of escape room)? Or do they have Generation 2 escape rooms (with a bit more production value like Omescape)?

Gen 2 Room. 90% electronic props and a couple mechanical props :)

Do we have to make a reservation before, or can we buy tickets the day of, in person?

You should make a reservation. You can do it online

What's the ideal number of people to bring?

I went with 3 and we could have used 1-2 more people effectively. Ideally 4-6 people is best. You need to be able to split task and look for clues in. 2 teams of 2 or 3 to complete the challenge within the time allotted.

Hi, is this escape room ok for 7-8yr old kid? he's been to a couple before that weren't horror or scary themed

No, this room isn't horror or scary themed. There is one point that he will need to hide from something, but other than that, there is no alarming elements involved, so I think he will be okay.

Hi Kevin Can we play as teams during a session? What I mean is as a family, could we put us parents on one team and our kids on the opposing team and compete during one…

Unfortunately our current room design cannot split two separate teams. In order to compete against each other, it would need to be two separate sessions.…

The store itself is really cute, with useful gadgets and cute towels and knick-knacks. I was part of a group of 12 for the Express Spanish class. There are many different cuisines to choose from, and different durations (e.g., express-1.5 hours, standard-2.5 hours, ultimate-3.5 hours). What made this class run so smoothly is all the prep work that was done ahead of time. Each member had their own apron with their name on it. The cutting boards, ingredients, and tools were laid out around the kitchen. Bruce, the owner/instructor, first gave us demos on knife technique, garlic crushing, and juicing with a fluicher (flat-juicer). Many of these tools are available at their store. Then we worked on different parts of the menu in teams of three. Some of us cut tomatoes, while other crushed garlic. As far as actual cooking on the stove, only 2 members were hands on. After cooking, we sat down at their dining table and ate our meal together. Menu: Gazpacho, Garlic shrimp, Pan con Tomate, Manchego y Chorizo Tostada. Everything tasted good, but my favorite was the garlic shrimp. Hygiene was very important throughout. Longer hair had to be tied, and once we washed our hands, we were no longer allowed to touch our phones. However, Bruce did a great job of taking plenty of pictures for us. Overall, a very fun way to socialize while making something together. I highly recommend this for a team building experience.

Although we enjoyed the general plot of the scavenger hunt and liked the experience of narrowing down who the culprit was, we felt that the clues were excessively specific, as we had to skim through every label in each area of the museum to get the information we needed. I think we would've preferred more general clues where you could still enjoy the information in that area of the museum without having to work so hard to search through each line of text. I also felt like the clues given were not very connected to the objects in the museum, and the plot of the mystery didn't seem very relevant to the setting of the museum. This took us out of the environment of the museum and made the experience less enjoyable. I felt that the length of was too long at 2.5 hours, although if the clues hadn't been as specific, perhaps we would have been less mentally exhausted at the end. We felt that it was fairly easy to narrow down the culprit with a handful of clues, so I think it would have made for far more intrigue if the clues were more directly tied to the plot and involved more thinking rather than just piecing together tidbits of information. My biggest qualm was the price of the scavenger hunt. I felt like paying $60 for to cover the cost of the museum admission, the video at the beginning of the scavenger hunt, and the website that was made for the scavenger hunt was very unreasonable. An average escape room in the area is about $40 to $50, and escape rooms have much more upfront expenses for the organizers, including the cost of renting the space, the elaborate props, and the staffing. This was a fairly enjoyable one-time experience, but in the future I would just go to an escape room.

Tal provided accurate descriptions of how each experience would be and what are the available options. Tal was very patient while I sorted out the date of the event and also the experience we wanted. Not going to give any spoilers on the event but we chose the Escape from haunted mansion. The event was held in Sports Page Bar where our team of 17 members split into five groups. The puzzles to solve were very creative and simulates your brain. Also is good team building experience where we need to work as a team and individually to escape within the time. As part of the experience we all got a drink/snack as complimentary. To top it all Tal gave a nice prize/gift to the winning team. Lastly I would like to highlight the amazing customer experience where we booked for 19 people and only 17 people turned up. Tal was able to get us the refund for the two no shows. I will be definitely excited to try out their other scavenger hunts in the upcoming years.

Pretty much every room had audio playing to continue the storyline and inform you on what task to focus on next + hints. The acting scenes and movable furniture were so cool! Srsly made me respect set construction and the developers' creativity. My favorite aspects of this experience were: - spotlights on which sections to focus on so you're not just put into a huge room, having a sequence and unlocking other rooms was rly satisfying! - walkie talkies for hints instead of having to wave at a camera - the acting and costumes XD this was so funny bc you'll be startled but realize oh it was the rly nice staff from outside so no need to fear PARKING: Plentiful since it's in a plaza with a supermarket.
