I bought a ticket departing Charlotte thinking that it was for sure a "mistake fare" and they weren't going to honor it. But they did and here we are with a boarding pass that will have me spending the next 24 hours flying Charlotte - Atlanta - Los Angeles - Auckland and back the same way, 8 days later. Sure, it was in the economy seating but even the 13 hours over the Pacific wasn't that bad (except no wifi because their provider doesn't have satellites in orbit over the part of the world yet). I used to be a Diamond Medallion even two years ago but with the pandemic and a new job, I'm not flying. So this trip let me experience Delta as a "General Member" with zero status. So yeah, I was seated in 48J with a window in the furthest back section of this Airbus 350. And I boarded with the Main 2 group which is nearly the last section. But other than that, clean, comfortable and while the food was airplane food, it wasn't bad. Restrooms were reasonably clean for a 13 hour flight and you could get up and grab a snack from the rear galley any time. I truly have no complaints. This was a perfectly good flight and I would gladly fly Delta to Auckland again. A short uphill climb from our hotel apartment. Stop 3- The Art Museum and Albert Park. The Guo Pei exhibit was so interesting. A very eclectic museum. Stop 5- The Auckland War Memorial Museum and the switch to the blue line or red line depending on which way you came. Easy to walk from this stop to the Winter Garden. Stop 6- The Holy Trinity Cathedral. Closed on Auckland Day. Easy to walk from here to Parnell Village and then stop #7. Stop 7- Pick up a lamb or meat pie on the way to this stop. Stop 8- Bastion Point has stunning views of Auckland. The memorial is beautiful as well. Stop 9- The aquarium, because who doesn't love penguins? Happy Feet! Stop 10 - The Winter Garden has the most beautiful flowers in the glass greenhouses. The fernery is interesting, too. Pricy, but we got a great taste of Auckland.

Since this was our first time arriving in Sydney, Australia, and departing from New Zealand, we arranged our pre- and post-cruise air and land transportation through Oceania Cruises. We were more than impressed with the itineraries that they scheduled for our foursome. Our New Zealand driver picked us up from our hotel, Sudima Auckland City, at precisely at 5;30 PM, allowing us an uninterrupted 30-minute drive or 24 miles to Auckland Airport (AKL). Along the way, our driver informed us that Auckland Airport (international) is this nation's busiest and largest airport, yet it has only two terminals. One terminal handles international airline connections through Air New Zealand, Qantas, Emirates, and Cathay Pacific, among others, while the other handles domestic airlines such as Virgin Australia and Airwork. He also advised us on navigating the three levels of the International Terminal, since we were unfamiliar with the airport's layout, which helped to make our departure less stressful. From the Air New Zealand drop-off point, we proceeded to the ground-floor check-in kiosks since we needed bag tags for our checked luggage, even though we had checked in for our flight on the app 24 hours in advance. Check-in was very easy, and a friendly agent was available at the kiosks to assist everyone if needed. After attaching our tags, we took our bags over to the agents to weigh and associate them with our flight tickets. We then passed through to the first-floor retail shops, highly efficient immigration and security, and duty-free vendors before reaching the second floor, where the departure gates were located. We also were impressed by the comfortable modern and Māori-inspired designed décor. While negotiating the crowds and making our way to our departure gate, we had allowed for a 3-hour cushion so we calm down and grab something light to eat pre-flight. We couldn't think of purchasing more souvenirs since we had spent the past 20 days in Australia and New Zealand and everything was packed in either our checked-in or carry-on luggage. So, our appetites were diverted to several food vendors, which, amazingly, offered tasty food and beverage options along with quick, friendly service. Before we knew it, time seemed to fly by and we were ready to board our flight home. We boarded stress-free to our selected seats and promptly fell asleep on a smooth and quiet flight thanks to Air New Zealand.

On board has decent WiFi and comfortable seats. One issue I had, and it's for all of NZ transit, is that they don't announce stops. So I'd recommend talking with the bus driver or familiarizing yourself with the city location so you know when to press "stop" to request getting off the bus. I download maps and save for offline usage and pin point the stop I wanted so I could ensure I didn't miss it. Did not see anyone purchase on board, not sure how it works. I recommend getting tickets for the operator booth and getting a return ticket to save yourself the hassle of having to pay on board (remember, NZ is big on card usage, so it's okay to carry minimal cash for safety).

Security was incredibly efficient. Compared to the US, the process was smooth and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The signage was clear, and getting through security took less than five minutes. In the US, we're used to arriving at least two hours early for domestic flights, but in New Zealand we were told to be there one hour beforehand and even that felt generous given how quick everything was.
